    Hello to all out there,

I recently came across Bruce’s Myspace page, and there is one song on particular on there, that I can’t get out of my head. That song is Sticks and Stones. Does anyone out there have the lyrics to this song? I’d love to get a clarification on some words that, even though I’ve played the song about 50 times in a row, I still can’t quite make out what they are. Thanks in advance.

Slightly off topic, but seeing as how this is my first post:

One of my favorite albums of all time, is Hot House, which I had a hard copy of about 10 years ago, and after finding it again on Itunes, I remembered how much I loved it when I first heard it at 15 years old. I purchased it again, and have been listening to it a lot the past couple of days. I’ve got to say, though, that listening to Sticks and Stones on the Myspace page has really gotten me hooked on that song…There’s just something about it…

    Sticks and Stones

    Festivarian,

I don’t have the lyrics in front of me, but the song is, of course, from Bruce’s underappreciated (in my opinion) Big Swing Face record. He’s also playing the cool, moody solo version of the song regularly on the current tour, and that version can be found on the box set. I recommend purchasing both!

Where are you from, by the way? I’ve been meaning to get to the Tennessee Strawberry Festival in Dayton for years! :)

Sticks and stones and where I’m from

The moody, solo version from the myspace site is the one that I’m listening to the most, and yes, I do plan on getting the boxset soon, as a lot of my favorites are on it.

I’m actually from Santa Cruz, California…via Hailey, Idaho. What I’m referring to in my name, is actually the Strawberry Music Festival, that occurs twice a year, just outside of Yosemite Nat’l Park. I work there as one of the engineers, doing sound, radio engineering, and sometimes lights. It is one of the premiere music events out there, and I’ve been to every one, save the first one. Check it out at: http://www.strawberrymusic.com

We’ve had an impressive lineup of musical acts over the years, from Bela, to KD Lang, to Keb Mo, Sam Bush, R. Crumb, Etta James, String Cheese Incident, Leftover Salmon, Los Lobos, and many more. I’m very lucky to have been introduced to a lot of the music from a very young age (3 y.o.).

Sticks and Stones is about bullying and how hurtful and destructive verbal “teasing” can be.

Back when I was more active in education (oh, DD, have some things changed since we last talked), I developed a workshop for K-12 teachers on how to identify bullying in the classroom and how to “bully-proof” children. I used (with Bruce’s written permission) Sticks and Stones as the central focus of the workshop.

As a former “morbidly obese” child and adult, I know intimately that “… sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words always hurt me the most”.
