ParticipantWoohoo! I arrived home from work today to find an email from Bruuuce.com Towers in my inbox. It delivers great news – firstly that the 3rd BH tribute album is released, and secondly that the Bruuuce.com website is about to awaken from a long rest.

ParticipantI’m having a hard time getting to work this morning. I’m stuck in the “just play one more” mode!
Thank you Si and performers! It’s awesome!
It really is!
That’s my story and I’m stickin to it! 😆

ParticipantVery cool stuff. I’m really digging on all of these tracks. Dave Rich, Megan Metcalfe, and Harm van Sleen never cease to amaze me with their work, and the guys in TWII sound like they’re having way too much fun
They really should tour the states some time, just like Dave should.

ParticipantVery cool stuff indeed, Rich. Thanks for the compliment and right back atcha. I feel very privileged to share a CD with all of you most talented people….I’ve already sent an email along to Mary Cockshoot, who also turned in a remarkable performance…I also was very taken with the creativity of Alan Kerry’s “Lost (In The Snow) Soul. Great fun!

ParticipantI’m listening again and loving it more each time!
The DRB version of “Circus on the Moon” is very good – would really like to see you guys play live should you ever venture this far north.
Megan’s voice on “Love Me Still” is beautiful and adds even more emotive expression to those already in the lyrics.
Most original idea has to be Alan Kerry’s “Lost (in the snow) Soul” – it’s wicked!Well done everyone.

ParticipantThis group of songs is very cool!
What a creative and musically talented group! Some first impressions:
*outstanding guitar solo on TWII’s Sunflower Cat
*very imaginative version of Lost Soul by Alan Kerry
*great saxophone on Greg Schuler’s Walk In The Sun
*The Morse code and Russian dialog in our friend Rich’s The Chill-inspiredI wholeheartedly agree with all the other comments above.
Thanks to all the musicians and thank you Si for this wonderful music.

Thanks to all the musicians and thank you Si for this wonderful music. There’s so much to say! Some first impressions also:
Megan, how beautiful! I get “tearied eyed” when I listen to it. Great “soul food”!
Rich, how creative! How in the h@!! did you do the strings & horn sections? The ending is a very nice touch!
daverich, incredible, sweet! Thank you for taking on the challenge! Some great two hand independence!
Alan Kerry, awesome! (No bio yet, but I can’t help but wonder if there’s someone in there we know?)
Mary Cockshoot, very nice! Puts you in the front row at a solo show!
Greg Shouler, three thumbs up! Some great vocals! Not only a mean sax, but a mean guitar also! We’ve been in great anticipation and it has been worth the wait! Thank you musicians and Si!
Good golly, miss molly!…..So much more to say, but will save for another time.

ParticipantFirst of all, thank you all for the kind words. I think this is the first time I’m leaving a comment so hopefully I’m doing it right and it gets put in the right topic.
Oh my gosh, well you can definitely tell that I’m a 137% Polish (No, the name Cockshoot isn’t – that’s my husbands name – but I am Polish
) and a newbie at this as I was just listening to some of the songs again and thought I’d take another listen to mine. Holy crap, I didn’t realize that my friend who recorded me was talking at the end of it and you can hear him. Oopsie daisy. What’s weird is I don’t recall hearing that before. Maybe I shut myself off before it ended when I listened to it prior times. 😆 Anyways, as you can tell, this was the first time I ever recorded myself and I’m quite amatuer to all the rest of the talent on this “Strike Three”. While some people have studios to record in, I was just at my house on my 1933 Gulbransen baby grand hoping the phone didn’t ring during recording. After recording this, I have a whole new appreciation for all your musicians out there who record on a regular basis. I couldn’t tell you how many times I had to have re-takes because I messed up. So congrats go out to all you musicians who took the time and to all you people for the nice compliments. And of course to Si for putting it all together!! Buy that guy a Schlitz!! (can you tell I’m originally from Wisconsin?? ha) If any of you are ever in the Denver area, consider our home opened to each and every one of you.

ParticipantDavid Day wrote:Rich, how creative! How in the h@!! did you do the strings & horn sections? The ending is a very nice touch!I cheated on the strings. The cheap little Yamaha keyboard that I got for $50 about 10 years ago had the exact string sounds I was looking for, so I used that.
I did, however, play the oboe at the end of the string passage, and I yanked out my old trumpet from school marching band days for the horn parts and used the recording software to drop a couple of octaves on the part that sounds like a tuba line. I also played what sound like clarinet lines on a little plastic recorder, and buried it in effects to make it melt in with the rest. The flute line was a pain. I desperately hacked away at part for a couple of days until I got it right once, and then copied and pasted like a crazy man. The drums were strange. I used that same Yamaha keyboard for that, but had to play around with the mixing software to try to make it sound like a whole line of drums.
I wish that part had come out the way I originally envisioned it. I had this goofy idea of having a marching band come through the middle of the song, going from left to right in the stereo mix – just to be strange and not what you’d expect. I think the idea hit me when I was listening to the Quadrophenia album and heard the little snippet of a marching band between songs. My thought was, “hey, that’s cool, but would anyone expect a marching band to sneak it’s way through during of the song??”
The morse code and the ending bit with the footsteps were last-minute afterthoughts. The morse code spells out “here comes the chill”, and the end part is from an old VHS tape I took when I visited Montreal back in the early 90s and was getting on the subway.
I’m glad you liked it. It didn’t come out as crisp sounding as I had hoped it would. Maybe one of these days I’ll pony up for some really good audio software.

ParticipantRich, you can tell that took an unbelievable amount of time. What a talent!
The ending does remind me of a Pink Floyd thing!
I knew you played keyboards, but did not know you played trumpet!
And…..A “closet” oboeists! Wow! Where do you learn all those instruments? Be honest, were you the “grammar school music nerd”? The one that now everyone wants to be? 😆
Today I’m in love with one Elaine Cronin!
What a great rendition!
Would love to know more about her other music!
Some great, and I must add “soft” two hand independence! Refreshing!
Wonderful!
Two hand independence with a feminine touch and a soothing voice. Very nice takeoff on a old familiar childhood song too!
No Sad Moon here tonight! Makes me want to go out and howl at the moon!
Thank you Elaine whereever you are!

ParticipantI have to say “ditto” to the things David Day said about the contributions to “Strike Three”. I was completely unaware of the talent that surrounds us here at the Forum. Everyone should be very proud of how their contributions turned out and kudos to Si for putting this all together and for all the hard work that went into this.
I do want to say that I am not the only one at my house that dug the selections put forth. My 17-month-old twins were boogeying right along with me, especially Circus On the Moon. For me right now Lost (in the Snow) Soul is my frontrunner but, like almost every Bruce song on every record, I’m sure that tomorrow I will have a different favorite from the bunch.

ParticipantI’m listening again, and tonight it’s “Walk in the Sun” that’s caught my ear. Does anyone else think Greg Schuler sounds like Elvis Costello?

No wonder I never received a reply from the U.N. after I submitted my application for that interpreter job. 😳
Seriously, this piece continues one of the finest Bruce Hornsby traditions-you discover something new each time you listen to it!

Thank you Elaine whereever you are!You would not belive what I saw when I was howling at the moon! 😆
(Someone plez tell me they saw this one coming!)I saw the daverich band doing Circus on The Moon!
There was daverich wearing his red cap with the infamous “G” on it. Playing the dawg$#!% out of it!
Some great two hand independence with sorta a “Phil Collins” type of voice. You can bang your head to this one!
I have always like his guitarist!
Some very nice licks!
His drummer & bassists has this tempo thing going on that does keep you dancing and wanting more!
daverich chimes in at all the right times with some “driving” piano, but at other times, some “pretty” keys!
molo3’s twins are not the only ones that are dancing to this one!

Lake Lanier, GAThey forced me to learn those isntruments when I had illusions of wanting to be a music teacher in schools. It’s a good thing I went into IT instead – it pays better!

Lake Lanier, GA“They” are those darned people who wrote the music ed curriculum. I’m awfully glad I took those “methods” classes, though. It’s another one of those things that you just never know you’ll need until you do.
And I appreciate the compliment. From you, I know it is sincere,

Participantrdiakun wrote:All we need now is for Bruce to post his reactions to this project!Dunno (don’t know) if that would ever happen. Bruce seems sorta (sort of) shy to answer.
I gosta (got to) think he has “listened in” and likes it! Knowing the little bit I know about Bruce, I would think he appreciates it!
It would be really cool if he “checked it” once and let us know!
