ParticipantThis year’s halftime entertainment at the Super Bowl will be Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. The NFL manages to spend a pretty decent amount of money each year to try to give TV vierwers a reason to watch after the new commercials are aired in the first half of the game. In the past, they’ve had U2, Prince, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, and, of course, the infamous Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction.
This is a 2-part discussion topic for you all.
1) If Bruce were to get the Super Bowl gig, what would you hope for from the short set that would be played? Would you want solo Bruce? Bruce and Noisemakers? Should Ricky Skaggs show up to do “Super Freak” with him? What songs would you want to hear? Would you want a medley of familiar Bruce tunes, or one of those beginning of a song > something else > jam like mad > something else > maybe even something else > back to the end of the first song deals that he is famous for? Would you want some of Bruce’s friends to show up and share the moment with him? If so, which ones? Keep in mind that they don’t get too much time to play, and the NFL has this bad habit of putting scantily clad dancers on the field with pompoms while the artist is doing their thing.
2) Other than Bruce, who would you like to see performing in the Super Bowl, and what songs would you like to see that artist perform. I thought Prince did a good job of crossing folks up by playing a Foo Fighters song, but most of the others have stuck pretty much with their own material.

Participant1. Bruce playing for the halftime show…an interesting idea! It might even entice me to watch the whole game instead of drifting away from the TV sometime during the third quarter, which is my usual pattern.
A set with the Noisemakers would definitely be in order to enhance the party atmosphere surrounding the game.
Songs-1.Big Rock Candy Mountain>Candy Mountain Run 2.Gonna Be Some Changes Made.3.Walk In The Sun>Hey Baby
Friends-I would love to see Debbie Henry and/or Joe Lee on stage with Bruce. Why should the folks at Biltmore be the only ones to hear this treat?
2. Speaking of Bruce’s friends, wouldn’t Bonnie Raitt be an excellent choice for the Super Bowl halftime show?
