ParticipantTaping debate!
I for one , am hoping that the new “No Taping” policy is just temporary for the spring, summer and fall tour. It does not really surprise me, as most musicians are not taper friendly, and I know this includes Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder. It is disappointing, not to have copies of the live shows, but Bruce has been very generous throughout the years.
I am going to 3 of the shows on this tour, and it will be a bummer that I will not have any recordings from them. However, in no way will it prevent me from going to see the shows! Hopefully, next year, the no taping policy will be lifted, but who knows?
We have been very blessed over many years by Bruce, to have allowed taping in the first place! IMO, I would rather spend my money to see taper friendly musicians, however, that still won’t stop me from seeing the musicians who are not! 🙄
Peace,

ParticipantSo, somewhat encouraging post in Bruce’s guestbook posted 7/10/07:
Bruce’s Reply:
We tape them, and if they are really strong we release them for sale through Munck Music. The ban on taping is not permanent. Ricky Skaggs & company do not allow taping, for one thing. Thanks for being interested. At the same time, fairly heartbreaking post (at least to me) just below it:

Dear Bruce, First off, thank you so much for all the great music. We were fortunate to see you at the San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts in February. We brought our daughter, Lindsey, who LOVES all kinds of music with us. She’s a BIG FAN of Bonnie Raitt, so she was thrilled looking at the book from your DVD set (AND THANK YOU FOR THAT, WHAT A BONUS!)and seeing pictures of you and Bonnie. Then when she looked up, here comes Bonnie Raitt sitting 5 rows in front of us. Honestly, I don’t know if she was watching you or Bonnie more. Please don’t take offense, Lindsey is autistic, so we are excited when she finds something she likes. Anyway, Lindsey and her dad will see you at the Mountain Winery tomorrow night. Lindsey fell in love with you in S.F. She carries around the book from your DVD set (it’s in pieces, but she keeps taping it together) and your her choice for music in the car and at home. If you get this before the concert, her favorite song is ‘Sticks & Stones’ so hopefully it’s in your set. Take care! Carol, Larry and Lindsey SupanBruce’s Reply:
Make sure to write your request on paper and get it up to the stage so we can see it. Saratoga is sure to be fun!”“sure to be fun” was likely Bruce hinting that Bonnie Raitt would in fact join them for three songs that night! Now,
I realize that having Ricky Skaggs and co. complicates things and takes some things out of Bruce’s hands, but wouldn’t it be great if someone could have taped this show and shared it with Lindsey? It’s because of possible situations like these that I hope the ban is lifted ASAP after the tour with Skaggs. This is the kind of situation I was really trying to describe with my “show for the ages” comment earlier in this thread – a show may not rise to the artistic standards necessary for it to get out as a munckmusic release, but it still might be VERY special to some in attendance.

ParticipantIs this still the policy?

KeymasterIt is.
I’ve checked with Bruce in the last week – since he continues to play new material at his shows, he understandably doesn’t want it taped.

ParticipantCan we get an update for the summer tour…specifically Biltmore?
Thanks

KeymasterOfficial word is a “no” until Bruce announces any difference… I can ask, but his one of his reasons was that he’s playing a lot of new material that hasn’t been been released yet.
Unless a new record comes out before the summer, I doubt it will change yet

KeymasterNo change, Will – I’ve already asked.
– Si.
