ParticipantA quick read of Bruce’s replies to the Guestbook at the official site offers some insights:
• Bruce is already at work on THE NEXT ALBUM! “The next record is an album of new songs (with at least one ballad!).”
• Also, there are “no firm tour plans yet” for 2008, other than the already-scheduled Ricky&Bruce shows!
… Working on the NEW ALBUM?
• Bruce (& Ricky, I assume) are playing the Americana Music Awards at the Ryman on Nov. 1.
• Bruce’s favorite of his “letter instrumentals”: Song F, Song G (which is not recorded yet) and Song C. (In response to an “observant” question from “David.” One of our Davids?)
• The recently scheduled Philly show was cancelled due to lack of ticket sales. WHAT UP WIT DAT, PHILLY?

ParticipantI’ll offer a David-Dayian double-post to boost my own thread:

ParticipantHere, here!!! Very well put, Daverich.
Okay, so if it’s 6:00 am here, what time is it where YOU are???

Participant10am here – although I’m usually up at 9.
I never would see 6am – we sometimes don’t get back from shows until 3/4 am.
Kind regards
Dave Rich

ParticipantWell, I teach 20 Kindergarteners 7 hours a day. Early morning are the only time there isn’t a line at the copier. Two days a week, I get a half hour break. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday I don’t get ANY time out of the classroom. I’m tired of having my knees hugged. I crave adult conversation (not THAT kind, Daviv! Well, okay, just a little). Wanna trade?

ParticipantA few more tidbits from Bruce’s official-site guestbook: the Noisemakers have been in the studio to cut 10 tracks for the new album. And the album will include some new songs that have been played at recent solo concerts.
Does that include the “Broadway” stuff? — do “Don of Dons” and “In the Low Country” suit anyone? Or would you rather hear something else on a new album? I love those songs, but if that is the case, I personally worry about the album fitting together as a cohesive, independent offering. The “Newmanesque” songs like “Heir Gordon” kind of pulled me out “Halcyon Days.” I think Bruce should do either an all-Newman-style album or all-Broadway-style album or all-Bruceian-album. Just like he did all-Bluegrass and all-Jazz. Just my two cents.
What else from the solo shows might make the new album?

ParticipantFrom a recent newspaper article in the Daily Press
“Two weeks ago, Hornsby and his own band ducked into the studio and recorded 10 new songs, four of them for a Broadway musical he’s developing, the other six for a new rock-oriented album.
One of the new tunes is called “The Black Rats of London,” which Hornsby says sounds like a hybrid of Randy Newman and the punky Irish trad band The Pogues. “It’s about the unsung heroes of American history,” Hornsby said, chuckling.”

Would that one be for the Broadway show or the “rock-oriented album”?
