It’s pretty disappointing we don’t here these types of songs live anymore. Even though Tide Will Rise has a pretty simple and straight forward song structure, there’s something about a song like this that’s special to hear live. Maybe it’s because I’ve heard a live recording of this maybe twice, and its obscurity makes it more of a treasure. Maybe if it was a mainstay in set-lists it wouldn’t be as special – I’m not sure.

I’d hate to think Bruce has stopped playing these songs because it doesn’t cater to the casual listener; that would be a shame, though I’d fully understand if that’s the case.

But I know Bruce usually takes the “I’m going to play what I want to play” attitude. I think we’ve had this discussion before, but I’d love to see Bruce pull from the library a bit more. I could do without Prairie Dog Town being played every show, and have it be replaced with something else, but that’s just my opinion.

It seems like the 98-2002ish era Bruce was really diversifying his set-lists and playing a wide array of tunes. Would be cool to see him go back to that a bit more, though like I said, if it’s because he has to play the hits more often in order to get a bigger audience and get more shows, I can fully understand and appreciate that reasoning.

Who knows, with two new Noisemakers (especially Ross with a fiddle), we may be seeing the reintroduction of some old favourites. We’ve already seen the return of Every Little Kiss, for example.

Pleased you like the 1998-2002 era – you’re going to love the 20 Days of Bruce, then! 20 concerts from 1998, beginning June 6 – and a Daily Dose Day on June 30! plug plug etc…
