When was Bruce’s last live performance on TV (not the Three Nights DVD presentation)? I’m talking about Leno or Letterman or something like that. I remember he played Gonna Be Some Changes Made on the CBS Saturday Early Show when Halcyon Days first came out. But how many people really watch that show?

It just seems to me that going on Letterman or Leno — not to mention SNL, Conan, or Jimmy Kimmel — would be the best way to build Bruce’s audience, especially considering how he excels live. Letterman always seemed to be a fan in the past when Bruce would appear. I mean, how hard is it to get on these shows these days? If SNL would have Jessica Simpson’s talentless sister on to lip-sync, why wouldn’t they have Bruce appear, either solo or with the band, to show people what it’s really all about?

I keep expecting to see him pop up somewhere with Sir Elton to kick off Dreamland as a single, but… ???

I agree. I was hoping to see him play ‘Gonna be some Changes Made’ and/or ‘Mirror on the Wall’ on SNL or Leno. Seeing that those are the bigger shows on late night and that those are his best new songs that would attract an audience.

I think Bruce should put out a DVD that shows vintage footage of his begining into stardom, his brother and him playing gigs, his Elton John days, his Range days, his time with the Dead, special appearances like SNL & others, and just candid moments of Bruce being Bruce.

    TV

That would be a cool DVD, Guinness.

While I prefer Letterman, I think Leno’s crew does a better job with sound and in their presentation of musical acts. But SNL would be the best place for Bruce, IMHO (even though the cast is mediocre). I think that’s the only place these days that generally lets acts do two numbers. I agree that’s what Bruce would need to do — a ballad like “Dreamland,” followed by something funky like “Mirror” — to gie an idea of his full repertoire.

I fully support Bruce continuing to do music his way, and I realize that doesn’t always play to the lowest-common-denominator audience — which is fine; I just want as many people as possible to hear Bruce right now, he’s so on top of his game. I think Halcyon Days needs to be heard fully before Bruce’s next album comes out.

Bruce appeared on a number of tv shows in Fall 2004 including Leno, Cold Pizza (ESPN), Conan, McEnroe, and The View. I believe he played Changes Made on each appearance. The problem with SNL is that they like “current” musicians. In terms of Letterman, I believe Bruce was a bit soured since they wanted him to sit in with the band versus perform and talk. This is why Leno is preferred. Can’t explain the lack of popularity given the exposure other than the most talented musicians are generally not the most commerically successful!!

    dvd available

i compiled a dvd of those tv appearances, it was called “gonna be some tv appearances” i was actually quite proud of it!

i seeded it at dimeadozen.org a while back. at some point i could seed it again if there is enough demand.

on the dvd there were 4-5 performances of gonna be… plus an incredible jam of the way it is, plus some misc. interviews. well worth having for any bruce fan.

I forgot to mention that the DVD that Bruce should put out should also include his Grammy Award winning moments and speeches.

Hey Altoidboy, your DVD sounds pretty sweet! I missed every one of those appearances. 😥

I was just looking at imdb.com and decided to dredge this old thread up — be the “squeeky wheel.”

IMDB doesn’t list many of those 2004 appearances, and I must admit Conan’s the only one of those five shows I watch regularly (but I missed even that appearance—shame on ME).

Now, with the “Intersections” box set coming out, I’d love to see Bruce hit Letterman (I don’t think Letterman makes people sit-in with the band anymore; however, when he asks people to, I think it’s a compliment to that person’s ability more than anything else). Or, I’d like to see him on Conan again. Maybe Bruce should visit Jimmy Kimmel when he makes his West Coast swing.

SNL may like “current” acts, but they’d do well to have Bruce any time. Bruce was on Leno Nov. 2004; according to IMDB, he hasn’t been on Letterman since 1998, and he did SNL in ’92.

If Bruce’s manager does set-up some TV appearance(s), Bruce should perform a solo piece from Intersections and/or a seldom-heard “show tune” or collaboration.
