ParticipantAnyone have any unusual/outlandish/off-the-wall requests we can all make at the different gigs around the country this summer? Maybe if they start getting made often enough, they’ll get worked into the repertoire!

KeymasterI take no responsibility if anyone decides to request one of Bruce’s demo songs from the 80s, which can still be found at:
… and would stand a better chance of getting a few bars played if the lyrics were written out for him…

ParticipantMy thought, although not too far out there, is that the bluegrass version of Jacob’s Ladder is very reminiscent (to me at least) of Paul Simon’s “Graceland”. It would be interesting to hear them quote from that – especially with a nice, meaty bass-line for JV!

Si, I’ll give it a try in Memphis this weekend!

ParticipantI think it would be cool to try to coax JV to do “Walk the Dinosaur” – the hit from Was Not Was (the band he recorded and toured with in the early 80s)

There’s even a sounding of “The Way It Is” in there too! 😆

Participanthow about “set me in motion”? I know it’s not that crazy, but has Bruce ever done this song live? Or if he has, has he done it more than a handful of times? This or Hotel California or some tom petty song…

ParticipantOK, here is my list for this year. Some may think these choices strange (i.e. weird), I prefer the word eclectic. “Built For Comfort” Howlin’ Wolf, “Cry Baby Cry” The Beatles, “Every Time I Turn Around (Back in Love Again)” LTD and “You’re Famous Baby” Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra-I love the quirkiness of this one. Add one more request for the demo tape songs to the list too!
Thanks for your kind indulgence.

I’ve begged, I’ve pleaded, I ‘ve offered ….. obviously, not to the ‘right’ people… to hear the Star and King play ” These Arms of Mine.” I thought that it maybe passe’ , as in …” no longer rings true”…as it goes for some early tunes. Recently, someone placed this tune on his list. Bravo!!! Everytime I hear that old tune, I get to shoutin’ and testifyin’! Damn!!! I wish He’d do that tune again!!!

ParticipantI tried unsuccessfully to get a request for the demo “Fly on the Wall” to Bruce in Memphis. I’ll try Atlanta in June.

Besides the never-played “These Arms of Mine”, how about the never-heard “Hop, Skip and Jump”? I found a review somewhere that stated this tune was written by Ornette Coleman[c.1995] and never released.
And, if BH must play “The Way It Is”, my new favorite is the bi-tonal version on the “London, September,2004” disc/downloads, just released by MunckMusic. This one is Brilliant!!! To his credit, Bruce re-works this tune in almost every genre …I just love that about him; don’t you?
Perhaps, more jazz and more bi-tonal. I would have given my[a lot] to have witnessed’ “SadMoon” in the dark, with his eyes closed’ or ‘just the black keys’…” What could top those??? The light show at the Biltmo???

ParticipantRequests for solo tour?
Anyone have any good requests for the solo tour? I’ll be at both Portland and Seattle shows this week and am open to suggestions.
(maybe something you requested at an earlier show that didn’t get played but if he sees it again he might play it this time!) 😮October 16, 2006 at 9:12 pm #26433Victor
ParticipantSolo requests
I asked Bruce in Louisville if he could do either “Mirror on the Wall” or “Another Day” solo, and he apparently did “Mirror” a couple days later in Cleveland (if anybody has a recording of that show, please send it to Si to post as a Dose! Si, do you already have a solo “Mirror”? I’d love to hear it if you do.)
I think somebody else on his official site asked Bruce to do “Another Day” solo, so maybe your request would make it definitive, Allisa.
Thanks, Vic

Never heard either solo, and as a matter of fact I’ve been bugging Bruce to do “Mirror on the Wall” solo. I am in contect with a taper at that show, although he wasn’t entirely happy with the results and he warned it could be a while.

I think it should have been a single. It shares some similarities with “Place Under the Sun,” don’t you think? Speaking of which, thanks for making the “Darlin’ Cory>Place Under the Sun” from Knoxville a Daily Dose, Si. I loved the way Bruce and the band made that transition… really cool combo!
Allisa, good luck on your “Another Day” request! Love that song too.
