This past weekend, I was cleaning out a closet, and ran across a couple of interesting items. Apparently, I own a license plate frame that reads “On tour with…Bruuuce.com”, a Teddy Bear that is wearing a T-shirt that reads “Bruuuce.complete fanatic” and is signed by Bruce and all the Noisemakers, a cassette single of “Set Me in Motion” (B side, exerpts from “Carry the Water”, “Barren Ground” and “Another Day”), and, perhaps the most rare of all, a Coca-Cola promo cassette that includes Bruce and Branford’s “Twenty-nine Five” (aka “Barcelona Mona”). Also on that promo cassette are songs from Tina Turner, INXS, Damn Yankees, Marc Cohen, and D.J. Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (aka Will Smith). Does this date me, or what??? 😯

So……. what are the most interesting/odd/rare Bruce items in your possession?

I have the 1987 RCA Promo CD The Way It Is Tour-1986. And a track that didn’t turn up on Intersections “Girl From The North Country” on a Mountain Stage compilation. Also somewhere is a promo record store poster for . . . Hot House, I think. I don’t know — haven’t dug that out for a long time.

Mr. Hornsby’s senior recital from the University of Miami in the winter of 1977

I am unsure whether this fits into the categories of “most interesting/odd/rare,” but it does stand out in my collection.

There is just nothing like music from the Jimmy Carter era.

I’ve been selected, elected and neglected to be the “protectorer” of a framed and autographed album of “The Way It Is” record. It is my fudiciary duty to make sure of it’s safe keeping. 😆

In case something ever happens to me, this website has been planted with a time capsule that will explain in great detail it’s location. 8) Who will then come to it’s resue and make sure of it’s safe keeping? 😆

Whew, Bruce Hornsby & The Range The Way It Is Tour 1986-7. They didn’t have many songs back then. I have a concert of theirs from September of 1986, my earliest Range recording.

That’s way back when, back in the days of troglodytes.

It’s a cool thing to have in your collection. The ‘Every Little Kiss’ / ‘Long Race’ era.

I love the Range shows where Bruce goes off on his long rap at the beginning of “Down The Road Tonight” to let everyone in on the tawdry tale behind the tune. He seemed to have a lot of fun doing that bit. He should yank that old chestnut out some day, complete with the Range-era storytelling. Fun stuff.

    Rich

She got up. She was a big woman. A big woman.
Her name was Bertha. Bertha Butt. She was one of the Butt sisters.
He didn’t care. He looked up at her and said: ‘
Sock it to me sock it to me
sock it to me sock it to me sock it to me sock it to me sock it to me sock it to me!‘.
She looked down on him. She was ready to crush him, but she began to like him.
    She said: ‘
I’ll sock it to ya, Daddy‘.
    – Jimmy Castor (‘Troglodytes (Cave Man)’)

P.S. How many of you that knew that tune were able to go through the quoted lyrics without doing ‘the voices’? Thanx 4 the inspiration, Nicos!

I have one of those alternate copies of The Way It Is LP…. with the funky cover. I also have some good shwag from the millennium new years show – the plastic cup they gave away (which I use when I brush my teeth!) and one of those brass “ticket” key chains – still in it’s plastic bag.

…oh, and I also have an original copy of the photo used for Here Come the Noisemakers, signed by Bruce with a personal note to me. (but you guys should have assumed that).

I feel so inadequate now! The “oldest” items I own are the original cassette tapes of “The Way It Is”, “Scenes from the Southside”, “Night on the Town”, and a ticket stub from 1990 for “Bruce Hornsby and the Range present ‘A Night on the Town'” at William and Mary Hall (check out my pics from that show on Bruuuce.com). Oh, and I also have the signed liner notes of all the Noisemakers (including R.S. Hornsby) for “Halcyon Days, and my “Miss Virginia Former” hat signed by Bruce and Ricky. But somehow, all MY treasures seem to pale when I read about all the really neat stuff that ya’ll have collected. Maybe I can find/collect/steal/get something signed at Bay Days?!?!

I forgot one item. Last Christmas,my nephew got a vintage Bruce Hornsby and the Range shirt for me from an online auctin site. 8) Unfortunately, when he got the shirt in the mail,he discovered it was a child’s size instead of an adult’s! He promised to have it framed and then give it to me.

I haven’t received it yet,but since he’s been busy doing an internship, job hunting AND moving,I can wait ’til things settle down for him.

Okay, you win. That is, by far, the oddest Bruce item I’ve seen yet. Maybe I can get our little marching band at my school to play it in the Christmas Parade this year!
