Some of us have had the privilege of meeting Bruce and band members over the years. Curious of your encounter/s even if it was for a moment.

I have the privilege of meeting Bruce a handful of times over the years.

Most memorable is my first. I was going to College in Florida at the time. in 2003.

After 03/22/03 Stuart Florida. Solo concert.

Was walking back to my car and noticed a tour bus/camper. Said to myself, I bet this is Bruce.

Sure enough, there was a small line waiting. After waiting for around 10 minutes, Bruce was cordial about signing some autographs and taking photos.

Going to dig up my photo (which I got him to sign a year later). He also made some drawings on it also ;)

Way back when, long time ago….

I’ve shared this before, but for the ‘new comers’, will share this again!…..

Drove to the Tivoli show in Chattanooga. Check into my hotel, came down to have a pint before the show. There was Bruce and Noise in the lobby! I politely took a seat in the lobby listening to their conversation. As they were all looking at me, I made the decision to go ‘powder my nose’.

As I was taking care of ‘business’, ‘powdering my nose’, there was Bruce next to me! As a gentleman, I went to wash my hands and so did Bruce. We ended up having a ‘camp meeting’ in the men’s room!

I guess the moral of the story is…..We were smokin’ in the boys room! :D

I’ve only met Doug. After a show in Los Angeles in 2011, Doug came into the standing room about 15 minutes after the show. I went up to him and said hi. Coincidentally, my drum teacher from when I was younger knows Doug. So we spoke about that and took a picture. Still waiting to meet Bruce and the Noisemakers!

I met all the Noisemakers many times over the years I can honestly say that all of them are really nice and totally down to Earth…never had a bad experience.
Bruce actually knows who I am and can even spell my last name(for some reason)…which is weird because every time I meet him he will try and spell it and actually gets it right every time. He has an incredible memory and is one of my favorite celebrities to meet.
The only somewhat bad experience I may of had was that I paid for a ‘VIP meet & greet’ with Bruce & the Noisemakers and only Bruce, Bobby, and JV came over which sorta sucked because I expected all of them.
The whole ‘meet&greet’ thing was disorganized. They let all 15 of us bombard Bruce at the same time for like maybe 10 minutes and if you tried to talk to him some clown will cut you off for a picture and then another guy will cut him off for an autograph and it kept going until our time was up. Common sense would have lined us up and gave each of us our own time to go up to him for a picture/autograph and then a few words and then on to the next fan.

I had three or four good hellos with Doug, I think the first was handing him a laminated collage/request at the MN Zoo. Had a few words with Bobby a couple of times. Met Bruce backstage at Ridgefield CT courtesy of Lizzie. Just missed him walking away from the B-ball courts at Hampden-Sydney (avoiding me Bruce?) The (old) band and crew all know my face, so well that JT even mugged for a picture from a couple hundred feet away in Denver. I have greeted/annoyed Chuck Keith, Soggy Bottom Sanchez and Wayne Pooley at venues far and wide, so I only regret not having my car autographed!

We met JT before the show at The Orange Peel last year. He was very laid back and obliged our request to take photos with him, even though he was about to get on stage.

Although I listen to Bruce’s music almost every day and enjoy going to live shows,I never actually thought I would get the chance to meet him.

I’d read about Bruce’s reputation for being friendly and accommodating to his fans, but have never been one to go backstage by myself after a show or wait by the tour bus to get an autograph or just say hello.

I’ve always admired people who did these things, but never dared to do them.

I always envisioned being in a scene from the old Saturday Night Live sketch “The Chris Farley Show.” I would meet my musical hero and say something brilliant, “Uh,you know that song ‘The Way It Is’? That’s a great song…” Then I would mentally slap myself on the forehead (“Stupid, stupid, stupid!”)

This is how I finally met Bruce:

It was July 22,2007,in Greensboro,NC. Bruce’s solo concert at Guilford College was a few a hours away. Some of the members of the Bruuuce.com Board had gathered for a meet-up at an Italian restaurant across from the venue.

Funny and interesting stories about meeting Bruce were told, but I had no story to tell. My new friends decided this would change.

After the show, one of my new friends took me backstage;the big moment had arrived!

My friend introduced me to Bruce and my “Chris Farley moment” was avoided as I thanked him for playing my request (“Sticks and Stones”). He seemed very pleased to meet the person who had made this request.

As we shook hands,a humorous thing happened. I have some orthopaedic issues that make it look as if my hands aren’t fully developed. When we shook hands,Bruce held my hand very gently and I held his hand very gently (as I had read I should). It was probably the gentlest handshake in history! :)

My picture was taken to commemorate the occasion, then it was time to leave.

This momentous event would never have happened without lots of help from my Bruuuce.com friends . It will always be a special memory.

    Jackie
