ParticipantI wish I could make it. If only I didn’t have to work and count my vacation days……

ParticipantDavid Day wrote:What about Circus on the Moon? Any “two hand independence”?? Give us some more details!Oh, there was two handed independence all right. BH was in VERY fine form on the keyboards, without question. And don’t forget that he worked Paul McCartney’s “That would be something” into……I think WWL. And played it Leon-style, which I love.
It was sooooo great to see the Noisemakers back in action. They truly belong together and bring a smile to my face. If only it was a standing venue, I would have been more than happy.
It was funny, my husband really didn’t want to go. He doesn’t get why I go whenever Bruce shows up with the Noisemakers (although I loved the jazz stuff w/Christian McBride and Jack DeJ. last year)……but he’s a pretty good sport. He only slept through a couple of slow songs.
Wish I could make more shows, especially with meets & greets w/all you “good people.” Good summer fun.

ParticipantThe problem with Boardinghouse Park, the Lowell venue, is it’s a public park, so they claim they can’t stop people from that activity. They do sell season tickets, and those are probably most of the people who were down in front. I remember Si saying last year that he was booted out of the front section by townies. I was way up back, with my husband (who didn’t really want to be there, so that made it a bit difficult), and the sound was good but I would prefer to be closer to the front for a more involved concert feeling, rather than just listening from the back.
My favorite part of the show was during Defenders, whenever they were playing and jazz riffs broke in! Props to you, Takavi, for being such a dweeb. And since ST is my favorite album, I was happy with most of the song choices.
I got a kick out of Bruce doing the dissonance thing for fun…not sure there are many who like it, but it’s a GREAT way to open Way It Is.
I loved it when they were goofing on Sonny’s percussion, and also when they were trading (twos? – they weren’t fours!) off during one of the early numbers, don’t remember which. Glad nobody depends on me for setlists!

ParticipantLooking forward to hearing what others have to say about the show. Good time….I enjoyed it….some parts more than others. Love when the improv kicks in. Wish I had submitted a request this time around!

ParticipantHi David…reading the Leon thread with interest, having been a big fan back in the day and loving when Bruce busts him out.
Please, please, please tell the Leon story. Is that enough begging?

ParticipantI was at the Northampton show…others can probably do more justice to the show than I, but I thought it was a wonderful show. Christian McBride and Jack DeJohnette are giants in their own right, so it was awesome to see them with Bruce. The show was a bit of a surprise, though, as Bruce opened with solo piano tunes that were the kinds of songs that he normally plays. Since I was expecting a total jazz show, this threw me a bit. I started jotting the setlist down until the rather noisy and probably inebriated guy behind us tripped and almost fell down the balcony stairs next to me! So I don’t have it and have a crummy memory…Charilie or Si probably have it all down. But the band played most of the new record, some of Bruce’s “regular” music, and Bruce also played a couple of requests, so it was a nice mix of old and new. As a jazz trio, they sounded great. Christian McBride is so talented. He plays the upright bass as if it were a guitar, so melodic. And Jack DeJohnette is a master….cool, smooth, no crashing, although he had more cymbals than I can recall ever seeing in one kit! All in all it was a pretty laid back and easy show. There were a couple of encores and Bruce also led everyone in singing happy birthday to Jack. They appeared to be having a lot of fun and were looking forward to playing at the Newport Jazz Festival the next day. I only wish I had gone to that; it was a gorgeous day and I’m sure a great show. Christian McBride was also going to be playing with Joshua Redman at that show (anyone go?). It was a lovely night, well worth the long solo drive, and of course great to meet up with Si and to meet Charlie as well.

ParticipantHmmm, I think I might’ve heard about this somewhere…..
