ParticipantDifferent strokes…while I was aware of the Iverson story, I hadn’t heard Bruce tell it, so I thought it was kind of fun to hear him break it down.
I agree with you…it was a GREAT show. I heard China Doll in Columbus when he played with Bela a couple of years ago and before that, I hadn’t heard it live since the Cleveland Music Hall show in 1993. So when he mentioned that he was going to play something off of the Harbor Lights album that he doesn’t play a lot, my ears really perked up, wondering what it was going to be. So when he started playing China Doll, I was thrilled.
Great to hear “The Road Not Taken” as well. As far as the bit of “I’m Alive” that he slipped in, I wish he would have played the entire thing…I do think that there’s a good piano version of that lurking in there…but it was fun to hear at least a bit of it.
All in all, a really great setlist and show from Bruce. Sold out show. Hopefully he’ll be back to the Cleveland area really soon!

Dagle had told me they stopped doing them for a while because not enough people were buying them. Maybe if enough people buy this round, they’ll do a bunch more for the next tour.

Allow me to vote with my dollars and support the hope for more shows…I just bought two of ’em!

ParticipantTakavi,
I actually had the chance to do a podcast interview with Bruce a couple of weeks ago where we get into some Oldboy chatter (and a bunch of other things). It will be online at Popdose.com within the next couple of weeks. I will share it here when we get it posted
GG – I was at that Kent Stage show….a good night…good to know that “Invisible” was one of your requests. Love that one and it was one of the highlights of the night, without question!

Participantas a fan of both Lobos and EC, I probably would have enjoyed those shows…but I get what you’re saying about the prices…
Personally, i would dig the opportunity to see Gregg, Bruce and Bela, but I also understand your point there…when you have specific agenda that you know might not be fulfilled, it makes it hard to bite the bullet.
I saw Eric Johnson’s acoustic tour recently and he was touring with two other acoustic guitar players. I assumed all three would be playing separate sets and jamming together somewhere in the midst of it all. Instead, it ended up they were all three on stage together for one set that lasted just under two hours. Considering that I had driven nearly four hours to mainly see EJ, I was not thrilled even though the overall musical quality was solid.

ParticipantDavid….thanks for the reports! Meridian sounds like it would have been a great one to be at!
I’ve got three Hornsby shows on my upcoming radar for the summer…Cleveland, Kettering, OH and an alleged Columbus show. Can’t wait!

Thanks Si….it was definitely a momentary brain fart on Jeff’s part….I could have taken it out, but we thought it was funny, so we left it in there
This one came up kind of quickly and I’d had the idea of having you do it with us, but wasn’t sure that we could make it work with the time difference (I’m not even sure how much of a time difference there is) – we’ll have to make it happen the next time we do a Hornsby-related chat!

ParticipantAs promised, here’s our Hornsby related blabber…

Participant“Resting Place” is also from that free download
I recorded a nerdy Hornsby-related podcast with the owner of Popdose, Jeff Giles and we spent about 35 minutes discussing the live album and a bunch of other Hornsby related topics. It will be online in the morning to coincide with the Amazon debut. I can’t say that we ultimately ended up dissecting the actual live album as much as we planned to, but we cover quite a few things and above all, we had fun, which is always the goal

ParticipantI was bummed, because I was going to miss this, due to The Smithereens being in town. And then that show was postponed…but I forgot about this webcast and made other plans…doh! Thanks very much for the virtual road report….My Cleveland Bruce show at the end of May can’t come soon enough!

This is again yet another example of the knowledge that flows around these parts!

Anybody find any video of Bruce with Sheena? I did a bit of digging on Youtube last night after reading this but didn’t come up with anything…
I thought I was a pretty big Hornsby nerd, but I’d never heard the Sheena bit of his history…
Takavl wrote:From the article —“This trip to Houston features Hornsby backed by his decade-old band, The Noisemakers. The ensemble’s most recent album, Levitate, is a return to the structured adult-contemporary fare Hornsby began his hit-making career with. Onstage, however, this crack group of musician’s can make any facet of Hornsby rich musical progression come alive…”
For me, the author of this admittedly enthusiastic piece hits a potential inside the park home run and flops rounding 3rd. I think that the above paragraph does all the damage: 1) The Noisemakers are older than a decade, by at least 1 year. 2) “Levitate” is “a return to adult-contemporary”? Really??? When was the last time you heard MOR that sounded like “Levitate”? And, again, 3) I HATE to be pedantic (not really, sarcasm 😆 ), but any grammatical error sets me the hell off — a “crack group of musician’s”? A “musician’s” what?
I can appreciate the effort, and Treah, I certainly, greatly appreciate you posting this (any read of BH is a good read, usually…) but the author doesn’t even mention the “Bride.” That’s just irritating. Kinda like me, sometimes.
Should the author get a few extra points for bringing up Sheena? 😆

ParticipantTakavl wrote:JF1 wrote:What was the free album released in 2007? Where can I download that?It was a “special holiday treat” from BH to “his fans,” whoever they might be. 😆 It was available for download at his old site, and not available any more, ‘cept for maybe filesharing, etc. Oh, and p’raps a couple are on the “Bride”?
The tunes were collected from the Summer ’07 jaunts to St. Louis and Apple Valley, MN I believe…

There’s at least two on Bride that I picked out as being from the download….”Country Doctor” and “Resting Place,” which made me really happy because both of those are GREAT versions, which any of you who have heard the holiday download will know that.
BTW – as I expressed to Si in email – this website has been a godsend for me over the years as a Bruce fan…longtime stomping ground although I recently had to re-register here for the board because my previous login apparently was vaporized, perhaps with a board upgrade at some point. But I’m always here, checking out setlists and all of the stuff being discussed at any moment!

ParticipantTakavl wrote:Thanks for the good words
I talked to Bruce on Monday and put it up on Wednesday. Kind of a fast turnaround, but Bruce’s manager mentioned that of the interviews that Bruce had done that day, I was the first one that had heard the live album, so I felt compelled to fast track it a bit since there was the live album chatter, plus I thought there was some good stuff that I hadn’t seen in other interviews that people would enjoy reading about.
In the process of hunting around my hard drive while preparing for the interview, I realized that there was a good chunk of my 2009 interview (which was done for a newspaper) that I didn’t end up using on my blog….I’m planning to put that online in the next week or so and I’ll share that here when I do.
But yeah, thanks for linking the interview here and spreading the word to other Hornsby fans
