ParticipantAfter seeing the new lineup Friday in Black Mtn, I have to say I enjoyed it a lot more than expected. Bruce called on Gibb to deliver multiple solos early on and it seemed to boost his confidence to a point that, near the end of the night, he practically stole the show. The fiddle sounded great to me and the mandolin fit nicely in a lot of the tunes. There will never be a replacement for Bobby Read’s contribution to the band, but these guys put on a helluva show Friday night.

ParticipantAny tips on parking? Calling for rain, which could be trouble if we’re parking in a field.
BluegrassBaron
ParticipantYeah, saw that too. Bruce solo is always excellent. I still have one Intersections box set wrapped up from the last solo tour I caught.

ParticipantAnxiously waiting to hear about this show from anyone who was there! Also, did anyone go to Knoxville?
BluegrassBaron
ParticipantWe’re staying at a B&B about 10 minutes from the venue.

ParticipantI’m with you, A.J., this is a pretty tough change to get excited about. When the dulcimer comes out, I sort of lose interest. I enjoy bluegrass music and have ample opportunity to see it live if I want, but I travel hours and hours to see Bruce–and no other artist–because I want to see what he’ll do next on that Steinway. I understand not selling out and tiring of the “hits”, but I read into his comments that he may not be able to sustain the type of playing we’ve seen from him and is choosing to slow it down to allow him to stay out there. Maybe I’m wrong about that and only time will tell. I’m seeing him in a few weeks and I know it will be a great show. I guess you could say Bruce has spoiled me with such amazing playing, it’s hard to imagine it being any other way.

ParticipantNow it appears we’re catching Bruce and the boys at Black Mountain NC instead of Knoxville…

ParticipantWe met JT before the show at The Orange Peel last year. He was very laid back and obliged our request to take photos with him, even though he was about to get on stage.

ParticipantBeen doing some research on Pisgah and surrounding area. Looks like there are campgrounds nearby, if that’s your scene, but Asheville is a hop, skip and a jump away. The Mrs. and I are planning to be there!

ParticipantCongrats again, Si! The Baroness and I are planning to be at the Knoxville show. Looking forward to hearing the new lineup of Noisemakers!!

ParticipantI think a tour with Metheny would present some interesting setlists, but any show featuring Weir is my kryptonite. I love nearly everything in the GD canon, but when Weir starts singing, I can’t skip to the next song quickly enough. JMO on that, and I may be in the minority as far as Deadheads go.

ParticipantLet’s just hope Mike Myers doesn’t steal the idea and hit us over the head with FTBSTD: The Movie.

ParticipantAs Bruce himself would say, “Nine-Time Grammy Loser”
But, seriously, piano rock icon doesn’t necessarily fit Bruce. I think he’s perceived in general as a top 40 hitmaker from the ’80s. Anyone that ventured into the ’90s and beyond with him obviously have a different perception. I’d offer up these three words for him: fearless pervayor of prestidigitation

ParticipantNo plans at this time to see them in Nashville, although I’ve always wanted to see a show at the Ryman. They are also hitting Cincy and Indy, both within 2 hours of Louisville. More than likely I’ll be at one of those shows instead.

I think I’m only capable of dedicating my time to one show at a time!I came into Breaking Bad late – maybe a year ago – and caught up on Netflix here in the UK. Now here I am waiting for the last three episodes ever. We have a chart in work that marks off who’s seen which episodes, so we don’t spoil it for anyone else!
That’s a brilliant idea! There are days at work when I cannot talk to anyone for fear of hearing a spoiler! The Sopranos had ebbs and flows, like most long-running series, but the final season is definitely worth seeing.

ParticipantI’m with you regarding Breaking Bad, Si. Very well-written show with quality characters you can connect with on many levels. The Sopranos was another series that had the recipe down for a great series: complex characters, believable storylines and twists-and-turns.

ParticipantI’d like to get my hands on a copy of the show from The Orange Peel in Asheville this year. Band sounded tight, Bruce was going full force and the crowd response seemed to push the guys along all night.
BluegrassBaron
ParticipantHad a great time at The Orange Peel! Enjoyed meeting HDBahn for the 1st time and running into David Day! The OP crowd was electric most of the night and the band really played off the crowd’s energy. Bruce’s voice sounded a bit tired at the start but by Across the River he was very strong and the playing was, of course, on point all night. This being my 6th or 7th time seeing him, I was pleased with the variety of songs he played. Valley Road had “some new clothes” on the dulcimer and the crowd ate up Bruce going into Midnight Rider. Met JT before the show and he was super nice to stop and take a photo with me and my wife. The show was around 2.5 hours long and, as many have said already, the band was really on fire all night.

ParticipantDavid Day, post: 8854 wrote:I got an idea! Why not do two micobrews? We must consider food, and the food is good at Barleys’. We can meet and eat at Barley’s and then go to Wicked Weed on the way to OP!I like that idea! That way, anyone interested in eating before the show can meet at Barley’s or if they want to just get a drink before the show, they can meet us at Wicked Weed. Or, they can do BOTH!

ParticipantDavid Day, post: 8848 wrote:I was actually looking at Barley’s since it is walking distance and very close! It’s a neat place! Will put up details in another post. Are any of those other places walking distance?I believe they are all within about a .5 mile from The Orange Peel, which to me, is walking distance. Parking is at a premium in that area, especially on a weekend night, but near Tupelo Honey is a parking garage that may be the best option.

…..
Do we want to put it to a vote or do you have a spot in mind to meet up? The Baroness and I are planning to have dinner prior to the show at Tupelo Honey, but if enough people from here are interested in a meet-up, we may do that instead. Here are the brewery/restaurants I found that are close to OP:
Barley’s Tap Room
Wicked Weed Brewing
Asheville Brewing Co.
Hi-Wire Brewing Co.BluegrassBaron
