My newest favorite from “The Dreaded Spoon”-
“Wearing out your ice cream cake, spilling sprinkles in his wake.”

    David,
Hope you don’t mind if I answer your question instead of Vic. Maybe you can ask him a different one.
Yes, Sonny was the drummer for the CMT show.

If you want Bruce videos, you need to get the Intersections box set as well as the Three Nights on the Town video. Both are available from links on this site or Bruce’s official site. I think you will enjoy them.

No, I’d say Bruce is still climbing.

    Here’s why:
He’s releasing two new projects this year. One is bluegrass and the other is jazz. He’s also working on a Broadway play. His live gigs (both solo and with his band) have inspired playing, spontaneity and he still has that spark in his eye!

The actual lyric is: “Isn’t this old night so nice”
Doesn’t seem written for record execs to me, although the song is certainly
    radio friendly.

    David,
I’d say the lyric reference for the “Night on the Town” photo would come from “Stander on the Mountain” – “The reunion band playing too loud”

    What a clever call David!
In my mind, I could hear Bruce leading into “The Red Plains” cut from “Here Come the Noise Makers”.

Is 3 a crowd? That was on my list too!
I decided not to post it to see if anyone else did.
Thanks for taking care of it, Vic and Lola!

“I might not have a full palette to use, but I’m gonna paint with the colors I’ve got”…

“..you know the older you get the better you were” and “take a map of the genome and give directions to a friend”

    Vic,
I too, was trying to keep up with those awards that were listed at the bottom of the screen. I did not see the entire show, but I ended up going to their website -grammy.com. The site had up to the minute information, so I learned there that Bruce did not win a grammy this year 😥 .

Not that I’m biased , I was hoping Bruce would improve his Grammy “batting average” this year. “Song H” is currently receiving heavy play in my car stereo and I love that he plays it some during his solo shows. Grammy or no Grammy, congrats to Bruce for the nomination and a great addition to his excellent alphabet instrumentals!

I didn’t mind hearing Justin’s music since he’s currently a big part of pop radio right now, but I thought he had way too much airtime during the show. Why not show a musical collage of some of the “off air” winners receiving their awards with their winning music playing in the background?

I remember buying this album ( and I do mean album!) thinking
that since I liked the songs on the radio, Way It Is and Mandolin Rain, I
might like the rest of the album too. The first time I listened to it , I was amazed that I liked every song on it. I loved that the songs told stories
and I noticed that Bruce had written most of them with his brother John.
It was a lot different than most of the music I was hearing on the radio during the 80’s – a very welcome change!

    Vic,
There are many factors that influenced my fav shows. Sometimes the
crowd reaction, the friends that are there with me, Bruce’s humor and great stories, the smokin’ Noisemakers and song selection aid in my decision.

Knoxville had a good crowd and stand outs for me were :
Sticks and Stones, a rocking Candy Mt. Run, Crown of Jewels and a huge
5 song encore that included Dreamland, Mandolin Rain>Halcyon Days

Vienna opened with a solo that led into Place Under the Sun and China Doll, so I just beamed the rest of this spectacular show. The Noisemakers
were in top form and we even got a short version of Lion Sleeps Tonight !

The solo shows Richmond/Annapolis included everything this Bruce fan
loves – new tunes like Dreaded Spoon, In the Low Country, Toodirump song
    – old songs made new, Mandolin Rain
    – My personal favorites like King of the Hill, Country Doctor, Circus
on the Moon, Sad Moon, Song H
    – lots of other good stuff including The Boxer and Swan Song

    What’s your favorite 2006 show?

Glad you were able to tape after all. I usually go prepared to tape, and hope for the best 8) !

Looking at the setlist, I’m sure I would have loved to have been there! “Life of the Party” and “Lost in the Snow” are 2 gems that we don’t hear that often.
    Thanks for the report, Will!

    Well, I hail from Roanoke,VA.
-I drove at least 6,200 miles to Bruce gigs in 2006 ( not counting 3 that I
    flew to)
    – The Atlanta show was the charity show Bruce did with Sonny
(I’ve been to Chastain several times, but not in 2006)
    – Favs for 2006 include Knoxville, Vienna, Richmond and Annapolis
Very difficult to choose one !
    – My first Bruce show was Charlottesville, VA 1988
    – I’ve been to 250+ Bruce gigs since then

I compare my dedication to that of sports fans traveling around the country to see their team play…. Go Bruce!

I was at the Oyster Bay show and I feel like people focused on the disruption that caused Bruce to leave the stage in mid-song, rather than the music. The incident prompted an interesting discussion on this board.
I felt it was a good show overall and the Black Muddy River>Halcyon Days>Mandolin Rain number that ended the show was absolutely beautiful. I longed to hear more and wished Bruce and his band could have played on into the night. Maybe an earlier starting time would have been in order since Alexa Ray Joel had an extensive opening set?

I’m glad you took the time to re-visit Oyster Bay, Cary. The night had
some disappointments (length of Bruce’s set and a disruptive audience member) but Bruce and his band’s music wasn’t one of them.

Please remember that taping is a privilege. Bruce has always
been very taper friendly. Since I’m a taper myself, I am very grateful
    to him for that.

Audience taping is usually permitted at his band shows, but not at “solo”
shows. There can always be exceptions, so you just need to be flexible.
