ParticipantLots of good ones. 1993-96 probably features the largest variety of high-quality recordings, and Bruce was really beginning to find his sound – expanding from the very tight Range days to a free-form jazz sound. The shows had a real sense of fun to them.
The entire Noisemakers era after Doug/Sonny/JV joined the band is just unreal good. 2004 was a solid year. 2009 is always a highlight (and Bruce released a LOT of that year with the four Dagle’s Choice releases and several free BHLive downloads).

Participant… and, of course, any 2015, but I expect to see some of the current shows begin to circulate.

ParticipantJust out of curiosity, did anyone record this show off the stream? I was going to, but life intervened and I didn’t have the opportunity to go back and hook my WAV recorder into the stream. Although it was produced for TV, it’s as close to an SBD as we get these days.

ParticipantWas the first time I’d had the chance to hear the “new” band. It was definitely different, but met (and probably exceeded) my expectations. Gibb Droll isn’t Doug, but he’s very solid. The fiddle adds a folksy feel to the show. Solid start with Country Doctor & What A Time > Dreaded Spoon. My wife was pleased to hear the “traditional” Mandolin Rain, as she dislikes the minor key version (which I love, but we’re a happy couple anyway:) ). I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the show, but I’ve enjoyed every single Bruce show I’ve seen/heard.
I saw Rick Carlisle sit in with Bruce on Rainbow’s Cadillac at a show in Indy about a decade ago, but he looked (and sounded) much more comfortable and fit right in on this show – having some musical conversations with the band (and Gibb) and blistering his own solo.
Thanks for posting the Jack Straw E2, since Yahoo cut off the broadcast right after the first encore.

ParticipantI’ve been on etree quite a bit of late, and the only summer 2011 shows are the Summercamp show and the 7/30/11 show with Bela. Both are INCREDIBLE AUD recordings. 7/30/11 has a mind-bending Way It Is. Wouldn’t mind snagging a copy of this show, since I was there.

ParticipantOne thing I always tell my guests at Noisemakers shows to watch for is the interplay between the band — the hand signals, looks they give each other. Especially given the night wasn’t going to be geared to extended jamming, the solos and the band were very, very solid and still pretty expansive within the constraints they had. They got the most out of what they could. It was almost more like a long festival show.
I always describe Bruce shows as “fun.” The band has a lot of fun interacting with each other, Bruce has a ball on stage and the crowd gets into it, and last night, the band was having fun. JV (as usual) and JT never stopped smiling.
Didn’t see any tapers.
It cracked me up when someone yelled “Fortunate Son” and a bunch of people started yelling — I think because they thought they were going to hear the CCR song.
I’m going to edit the setlist in the above post so Si can put it in the BruceBase.

ParticipantHe played a lot of old standards tonight — seemed to sense that the crowd was more of a “Greatest Radio Hits” crowd (and mentioned that a couple of times in between-song banter).
As usual, loved watching the band operate. They weren’t quite as expansive tonight as they’ve been in the past, but they looked to be having a blast on-stage.
The big minus was the venue limited him to 95 minutes, so they were a little bit more pressed for time than what I’m used to seeing in non-festival gigs.
Venue was pretty small and in the round. Unfortunately, where we were sitting (in the back of the room), there was no slope to the seats and we were right at eye level with the stage, so I had to crane around necks to see Bruce and the band.
As best as I can remember it
Bobby & drums + Bruce jazz improv
Changes Made
Valley Road
SIlver and Gold > Big Stick (accordion) — always a fun song, got the crowd going
Shadow Hand (dulcimer) — one of my favorites, and done very well.
Prairie Dog Town (dulcimer)
Travelin’ Man > (Under the Boardwalk tease) > Fields of Gray > Mandolin Rain (“faithful to the record”) > Black Muddy River — my wife was happy to hear this one. Travelin’ Man was supposed to be a short tease, and Bruce just kept going with it and the band joined in. Fun moment. Matter of fact, he was going to go straight into Mandolin Rain and kept tossing stuff in before it.
Fortunate Son > Comfortably Numb — as always, a show-stopper
The Way It Is — from a request that someone kept mumbling to him off to the side of stage pretty much all night
Jacob’s Ladder > Cartoons & Candy > Jacob’s Ladder (accordion) — always fun to see the band turn on a dime
Cyclone — well-appreciated. Quickly becoming a crowd favorite
Rainbow’s Cadillac — as always, a show-stopper. As usual, Bruce went from piano to the accordion, finished by standing on top of the piano.Mentioned potentially playing Defenders (someone said “Fourth of July”) early in the show, but didn’t play it.
I think I might be missing a song and have mixed up the order of a couple, but it was a good, tight show. The crowd was much different than other shows I’ve attended — a little more of the AC crowd. During the opening, when Bruce was showing off his piano skills and playing great, the guy sitting next to my wife goes “what the hell is going on?” (uh, he’s not going to stand up there and play his greatest hits record)
Nothing like seeing the Noisemakers do what they do best.crimsonace

Have been a fan since I first heard The Way It Is back in 1986 and got it on an old hissy cassette that I still own (plus a worn-out record), and I wore out my copies of the next two albums, but what really hooked me and turned me into a diehard was “Harbor Lights” — the intricate music and piano playing on that album was incredible. Saw Bruce live for the first time in 1996 and I’ve been hooked ever since. It is Bruce’s affiliation with the Dead that got me to listen to their music.

ParticipantMuch agreed. I took a friend to the 10/29/09 show in Indy last year (last minute — my son got sick and he took my wife’s ticket, and he had very little exposure to Bruce other than the radio stuff), and the first thing he said when the show was over, besides “that was awesome” was “you have to be incredibly good to be his drummer.”
The Noisemakers are an incredible band all the way around. Have been a fan since the first time I heard The Way It Is, but the band has been incredible since JV & Sonny began working together, and I really, really enjoy Doug Derryberry’s guitar, which just adds a ton of color to the sound.
I *love* watching JV & Sonny — they have an incredible amount of fun when they’re playing, and it shows.

ParticipantIt’s missing a couple of pieces … Fortunate Son > Comfortably Numb and Sunflower Cat > Train To Cry. Also, he did a little verse of Stella Blue that’s not on the download. Other than that, this is as great as I remember it in person.

ParticipantAwesome. Anybody know which tracks are from which shows?

ParticipantI’m late to this party, but this was a great show in person that got my wife hooked on Bruce (it was her first – and so far only – exposure to live Bruce).
Anyone got a copy they’d be willing to spin for me?
