ParticipantIt seems like the actual performer of the national anthem was Aaron Neville. Even previously announced Mary J. Blige has been changed for Toni Braxton as you can see appended to the news under the link in my first post.

ParticipantI would vote for The Tide Will Rise. According to Brucebase it was played for the last time in 2006.

ParticipantAll I could find is that “Too Much Monkey Business” is originally Chuck Berry song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyipWCVPIeI that was covered on Leon Russell album “Anything Can Happen” from 1992 produced by Bruce.
I also wonder if there is any connection to the musical, anyway — from that 30-second sample — it is a cool version, thanks for finding it!DanaNejedlova
ParticipantGreat find, Rich!
Today I read the latest entries in Bruce’s guestbook and there was the following link to an interesting interview which also mentiones how Bruce searches for a good sound by listening to his shows.

ParticipantThanks a lot.
It was interesting for me to compare (with my limited ability to understand the meaning of lyrics when I don’t have them available in written form yet) what I thought was the meaning of songs to what the meaning really is. I am glad I had got it right e.g. in the case of “Simple Prayer”.DanaNejedlova
ParticipantIt’s really great. Thank you for finding it.

ParticipantI didn’t know that Bruce gave his slinky to the public. Has he sold it for the charity or something?
By the way, a little interview from 2004 European tour is now on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oG67HkLTBn0

ParticipantYes, the interviewer asked him how he called it, and he answered, as you remember, “slinky”.
Regarding songwriting:
The first question of the interview was maybe what people are focusing the most on Bruce’s music, and Bruce answered that it is the piano and the lyrics. Bruce and his brother John are tough critics of each other’s work and they try their lyrics to look good on the paper. Bruce thought The Way It Is would be a B side of some single. It was a fluke that it became such a hit. He compares it to the success of Tracy Chapman and Suzanne Vega. The interviewer asked him about the possibility of loosing one’s edge when trying to get a record deal. Bruce said that getting his record contract was the most difficult thing, and loosing the edge is a possible problem, but he is not writing his songs to make money but to write about things he believes in or to express certain musical ideas. After that they talked about that “slinky”.DanaNejedlova

ParticipantI voted “This is great work”. It is hard to compete with his piano work released on previous albums. I understand he didn’t want to concentrate on piano this time. I like signs of modern classical music in this album.
