Participanthmm,
i wonder why i wrote “I wonder if bruce will” at the end of that post,- very random indeed!
anyway,-
I shall certainly be bringing my camera with it’s nuclear batteries (not really,- its Li-ion, but they go on forever!) – I think it holds 800 hi quality pics, should be enough hehe.
Not sure about writing a journal though,- that would mean putting down my beer wouldn’t it?
Hmm, I must remember- it’s probably not cool to be drunk when meetings ones childhood hero!

Participantsorry,- I’ve not listened to spirit trail for months since my car ate my cds.
So far it’s eaten.
Spirit trail,
Scenes from the southside,
Halcyon Days, and a whole other heap of non-bruce stuff, and countless burnings of downloaded concerts.
I do have mp3s of it all, and luckily I realised what the cd player was doing before inserting any of the box set cds!

Bruce Hornsby:
“As far as the voters go, I think the main issue right now is the economy, and then the war. With the economy going to hell these days, it’s overtaken the war as the main issue, and I understand that.
“Maybe I’m splitting hairs, but I don’t think Bruce is saying the economy is more important than the war. Isn’t he saying he understands why other people feel this way?
yeah you’re probably right.

ParticipantI can understand that.
It’s not a very “radio friendly” song, with alot of weird atonality going on.
I can see how it wouldn’t appeal to the masses.

ParticipantMVF wrote:Dave, I’m surprised you haven’t received any backlash over that last post. But I tend to agree with you to some extent. I don’t “get” the Dead much, either. Maybe I’m getting too old, but then, I didn’t get them when I was younger, either. But I have to disagree with your statement about why Bruce played with the band, and here’s why. I think that every artist is influenced by those around him. Listen to the album “Night on the Town”, then listen to the album “Hot House”. Big difference, huh? I think this was close to the time Bruce hooked up with Jerry. I once read an interview from Bruce that said Jerry really encouraged the whole two-handed independence thing. He would tell Bruce, “play this with this hand, now play this with the other hand. Now, can you switch out?” I think the piano solos on “What a Time” from Harbor Lights and “Spider Fingers” from Hot House are phenomenal. Without the Jerry “influence”, we would not have “Sunflower Cat (Some Dour Cat)( I’m Down With That)”. I also think Jerry influenced “White-Wheeled Limousine”, and you have to admit that Jerry’s guitar on “Cruise Control” is something else (is it me, or does R.S. Hornsby sound just a bit like Jerry??)Here’s a thought — maybe Bruce has railed against drug use so much (and I STILL say that’s what “Candy Mountain Run” is about, I’ll tell why in another post) because of his friend Jerry????? Just a thought.
Maybe that’s it,- maybe Jerry and the band have been off their heads every time i’ve heard them
Certainly what Bruce has taken from the experience is worth having.

ParticipantI’ve never heard anything by the dead that I liked.
I just don’t get it at all.
Whatever I’ve heard has been badly played, badly performed, and quite frankly boring as hell.
Granted, I’ve only ever heard live recordings, but unless they played some incredible gigs in their time I’d say they’re very overrated.
Were they ever good?
was it only people who were stoned who liked it?
The fact bruce played with them for a while really puzzles me. It just doesn’t seem to fit in with what I perceive as Bruce’s hankering after greatness in all that he does. It’s a square peg and a round hole alright!

ParticipantHighway_61 wrote:Well, here’s a bit of superfluous info, perhaps, but I actually found this site via your mp3 at TruePianos.
I’ll spare you the ballad of my rediscovery and total immersion into Bruce (and the Noisemakers), but when it began, it led me back to wanting to play keyboards. I had been away from playing keys for more than ten years, and I had to get abreast of what was available, and blah, blah, blah (I promised to spare you), and, somehow, I got to TruePianos, to listening to your version of “The Way It Is,” to Caesar Salad, to Bruuuce. The end.
Well, not really, but Bruce’s music saved my life in a way, so…
Ah yeah,- that truepianos video, damn I wish I’d spent some time and put on a shirt or something
– I’m glad you liked it though,- it’s a great instrument, although I don’t use it anymore, but that’s not because of truepianos, rather that my Roland keyboard is much easier to use and sounds very good (although not as good as TP).
I found this website a few years back after vaguely wondering what bruce had been upto all these years. – What a wonderful surprise to find out he was still going and releasing stuff!
