ParticipantOK, it’s probably time to settle this one! 😆
What did I do? I was very confused!
I was very shocked! 😯 I was very surprised! 😮
I had to ask myself, “What would a true Road Scholar do?”
There was so many thoughts that entered my brain! So very many emotions that I felt!
Then it hit me, “What would you want if you were Bruce?”
The answer was very clear!
“Let the man read his Sunday paper!”
I walked out into the parking lot and called Vic.
As Vic’s cell faded into the mountains, I understood Vic (one of our Global moderators) to advise me that I had done the wrong thing.
I drove to Guilford College and watched as Bruce’s sound crew was setting up in this beautiful auditorium, which had to be their old Chapel and wondered, “Did I do the right thing?”
Then it hit me again, “Let the man read his Sunday paper!?
So I did!

Lake Lanier, GAPS What do you think Vic advised me to do?
: Did I do the right thing?
: Obviously, I didn’t live up to being a “stalker”!

Is that enough begging?I just don’t know. 😆 At least Treah (Jackie) would have said, “Please, please with sugar on top.” 😆 Even that earned her some “extra credit” on another post, but just not enough to qualify for actual “begging”. Therefore, I’m struggling to see where three “pleases” can qualify also. 😆
I need some more begging! 😆 😆

ParticipantHere’s another question for you “two hand independence” guys and gals.
Whenever I attempt “Spider Fingers”, my dog (an Old English Sheep Dog), runs upstairs and hides. 😆 Can’t get away fast enough! 😆
Whenever I attempt “Circus on the Moon”, she is contempt to just lay on the couch and listen.
What is it with “Spider Fingers” that makes her run and hide? 😆

Lake Lanier, GAPS I can’t play either one of them so they both are equally bad! 😆

Participanttreah wrote:Bruce often shows some of his “pop” influences-Leon and Elton-when playing,so it makes sense that the Steely Dan influence would apeear on the jazz album.I can’t help but think on the Intersections DVD “The Mighty Quinn” (with Skunk Baxter), Bruce is giving us his Leon impersonation.
What do you think? What other songs sounds like Leon Russell?

I normally don’t talk that way! At least I didn’t get the infamous “banning stick” (yet) from the “Global moderators”! 😆
But, it does express how I feel about your challenge (and the subject)! 😆
Jazz purists have it all clogged up upstairs! They are quick to tell you how it should be played. Like I said before, jazz is music that someone chooses to play. Jazz purists are somone that chooses to tell you how it should be played! 😆
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! 😆

Long, long time ago. Way back when. I read several articles where Bruce said that he had been influenced by Steely Dan. Steely Dan being jazz/pop was in a class by themself. Very creative for their time.
Since Bruce majored in jazz, it was just a matter of time that he came out with a jazz record. Some of the songs on Camp Meeting definitely have a Steely Dan feel to them. Camp Meeting itself being one of them.
Did Steely Dan help influece Bruce to major in jazz that inevitably led Bruce to do Camp Meeting?

I’m sure that this group is such a breath of fresh air for him, in the midst of the gigs with Skaggs. I know those have gotten kind of old for me, and I’ve only seen a few of them. I can’t imagine Bruce having to play to/with the same schtick every show…..Killer music on a sweltering hot day – well worth the sweat! Victor wrote:Elyce, I love you — you’re a special ed teacher, so you’re a giving person — and judging by your Pen Pic, you’ve survived a broken neck(!) But I have to place myself in the position of Defender of Ricky Skaggs again. I feel it’s unfair to categorize the Skaggs/Thunder shows as “the same schtick every time,” and I sincerely doubt Bruce thinks so, or else he wouldn’t have scheduled so many of those gigs. Bluegrass is as improvisational as jazz any day of the week, and Skagg’s band is a top-notch group of musicians.
Just because it doesn’t suit your tastes is no need to diminish its artistry. I wouldn’t do that with the jazz stuff.
That is all. :)Vicmeganm wrote:Well said, and it couldn’t be more true. Thanks Victor!Yikes! 😆 Looks like some “tension” within the Bruce Nation!
What would a true Road Scholar do? Especially between the ranks of other “Road Scholars”. Conflict between some Road Scholars?
No way! But, just maybe there is a way to have some “reconciliation” between the ranks.
On one hand there is “Camp Meeting” the new jazz CD. On the other hand, there is the Ricky Skaggs bluesgrass thang!(Another southern expression!)
It was bound to happen! The Bruce Heads divided into two camps!
Sounds like some good debate material!

Who is this man? Is he some newfangled jazz impressario who seeks to use his superpowers for good (and not evil, as is the comic-book hero credo) to promote this music and bring it out of the dark, dirty basements and bring on the dawn of a new day with this music as its’ centerpiece? I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. Who knows? He might be the guy in the shadows at those depraved rock concerts who selects which girls get with the band, which get with the sound crew, and which end up being ritually defiled by the roadies or the bus driver. That’s what I’m talking about!
