There is so much to say here, but will save for another time. In a nutshell that is my Prediction From A Road Scholar. “The peak” for Bruce will come with jazz! It is his calling and destiny! What do you think?:
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

ParticipantDavidR wrote:I’m really, REALLY excited for this, as a jazz buff. I’m curious in a lot of ways about this.Jack DeJohnette is easily among the best living jazz drummers (maybe, now that Elvin and Tony are gone, second only to Paul Motian). I love his work with Keith Jarrett and with Herbie Hancock – incredible taste and precision. And what a feel. Let’s not forget his work on the Bill Evans Live at Montreux record. Phenomenal. Given Bruce’s debt to all of the above (plus Chick Corea, with whom Jack worked in Miles’ band), I think Jack will bring the best out in him.
Christian McBride’s an interesting guy, because his two biggest musical loves are two Mr. Browns: Ray and James. He’s equally adept at hard-swinging straightahead and hard-burning fusion explorations. He’s just not the first bass player I think of when I think of pairing with Jack DeJohnette. I don’t know if they’ve ever recorded together before – if they have, it’s been rare. So I’m interested to hear how they hook up. Christian’s ease with both jazz and more “poppy” things will suit Bruce well.
My only fear is that it’s for Columbia Jazz (right?), whose outings since the departure of Branford Marsalis have been kind of lukewarm. I just hope the trio have the opportunity to really burn and not get censored or toned down by the label.

This was from a previous post from DavidR.
I can’t wait for the jazz record to be released!

Thanks for the detailed explanation for the mormon part of the lyric…Much clearer now…
Now as far as the cub scout lyric, I kinda see your point and I still don’t believe Bruce would consider Pedophilia when writing a comedic song…
Just my two cents though,
ScottI didn’t say that. It was Vic who brought that one up. Someone who “touches all the bases” is one who does things publically to look good, but in their heart, they do it for some form of selfish ambition like to increase their business, whatever their business may be, or to get elected to some public office, (Defenders, Defenders of the Flag!) which will also increase their business. I didn’t say it before, but I will now. Heir Gordon is a greedy person.
David Day
Lake Lanier, GAPS Heir Gordon could be a “Defender of the Flag”! How’s that for tying Heir Gordon to Defenders of the Flag!?
If these guys are the good ones, I don’t want to know the bad

ParticipantSorry it has taken me so long to reply, but I needed some time to write this one out.
Mormon underwear is very sacred to the conservative Mormon. So sacred, that they don’t even admit they exist to outsiders. The term “underwear” is actually slang to a Mormon. They are called “garments” or “garmies” for short.
The Mormons start wearing the garment after they have been through a special ceremony called Temple Endowment in the Temple. The Temple in Salt Lake City is very special and sacred to a Mormon. After the ceremony, they wear the garment day and night to constantly remind them of the promises and covenants they made to God to live a righteous life. The garment is worn next to the skin and women will even wear the garment under their bras. Some Mormons will wear them always except while having sex or bathing
The garmies are actually manufactured by Mormons only at Church clothing centers. They then are distributed through regional Church distribution centers or “warehouses”.
Don’t get me wrong. The Mormons are dear people! None of us are perfect and we all have some strange habits or vices. Now don’t we?
What I think Bruce is referring to is….Heir Gordon, by nature, tries to be religious, but he can’t live by his word or the promises he has made. {“Oh God, if you get me out of this one, I promise never to do it again.” Or, “Oh God, if you give me the big contract, I’ll promise to give a portion of it to the poor.”} Knowing he is not a man of his word or can’t live up to his promises, Heir Gordon tries to make up for his deficiencies by wearing Mormon underwear. Heir Gordon justifies that since he can’t be sacred, he can feel sacred by wearing “garmies”.
As far as “touching all the bases round the Cub Scout den”, Heir Gordon will do anything to cover all bases including doing things that make him look good like being involved in some form of community activity. It gives Heir Gordon more public exposure that he wants. He thinks he is doing it for a good cause, but in reality he is doing it for selfish reasons like to increase his business or get him elected to some public office. Heir Gordon’s heart is in the wrong place.
Well, there it is! I hope it was worth the wait to get your answer.

I anxiously await David’s explaination.I hope to get the Mormon thing answered for you soon, but don’t worry, the Cub Scout lyric has nothing to do with the Mormon lyric. They are two seperate things.
Soon come with an explanation!

ParticipantI have an update from Biltmore!
This year’s concert series will be only in August on Friday & Saturday nights. You can look at Bruce’s schedule and eliminate several weekends because of already booked shows and not being in the SE USA.
Check it out! It doesn’t leave much room.
What do you think? Is Bruce going to do a Noisemakers Show at Biltmore?

ParticipantI have some hotel info for Greensboro!
As far as I know, there is no hotel walking distance from the venue. There are two hotels that are close and if you call the hotel direct, they will give you a good discount. You need to tell them you are visiting Guilford College, which you are, and they will give you the Guilford College rate.
One is the Clarion Hotel, which use to be the Radisson, and their rate is $69.oo. Their number is 336-299-7650.
The other one is the Microtel Inn. Their rate is $52.00 and their telephone number is 336-547-7007.
Both hotels are right off I-40 and just a couple miles from Guilford.
As far as a meetup place, I know of two places that are walking distance to the venue, but it is Sunday and need to call them to see if they are open. If both are those are closed on Sunday, I’ve found a good place just a couple of miles from the venue that is open on Sunday.
You guys don’t know it, but we have a great connection in Greensboro! I’ll let you guess who that is. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! 😉

Lake Lanier, GAPS Hey Vic & Countrydoctor! I’ve found you guys a cheap hotel so there is no excuse! You don’t know who might show up!

ParticipantI can answer that, but will need to answer that when I have some more time so you will understand it fully. I use to do business with the Mormon Church (long story) and went to Salt Lake City several times a year. Will get back to this when I can. I think you will find it interesting.

The confusion was not with you at all! The folks at Eastern Music Festival assumed the folks at ticket.com were ready to handle the tickets. The folks at ticket.com didn’t know a thing about it. After many call to the folks at Eastern Music Festival, they finally decided it was time to clear things up with the folks at tickets.com. Around 11:30 EST, the folks at tickets.com had tickets available by phone only.
The moral of the story is………When you get too many folks involved, someone is going to drop the ball! 😆
