ParticipantI was behind you and to the right, right up against the rail in the middle, behind the sound board. Great show–I’m excited to be able to download it–and so fast. Thanks loads!

ParticipantThere’s a very nice, longer Bruce-only version of “Love Me Still” in the Charlottesville show from 8/22/06. It’s still up on e-tree.
Cheers–

Another Day
Gonna Be Some Changes Made
Across the River
Rainbow’s Cadillac
Old Playground
China Doll
Valley Road (bluegrass version)
Sunflower Cat
On the Western Skyline
Crown of JewelsIt was hard to pick just ten, and I was surprised that nothing from Spirit Trail made my list, cause I like that album a lot. A lot of this is mood-dependent, too.

ParticipantI’ve filled in most of the missing pieces, I think, although I may well have lost track of exactly who was playing on each song:
Star Spangled Banner*
White Wheeled Limousine > Long Black Veil > White Wheeled Limousine*
Circus on the Moon
The End of the Innocence
Big Rock Candy Mountain > Candy Mountain Run
Big Stick
Defenders of the Flag
King of the Hill > Twelve Tone Tune > Mystery Train > King of the HillBruce Hornsby with Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder
The Dreaded Spoon
Uncle Pen
The Way It Is
Sheep Shell Corn
Sally Joe (Bill Monroe song)
Superfreak^Ricky, Molly, and Luke Skaggs
If My People (song by Molly Skaggs)Ricky, Molly, Luke, and Sharon Skaggs
The Old Rugged Cross (traditional hymn)Chaka Khan with Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers
At the Meeting (Sensational Nightingales song)@
Love Me Still
Through the Fire
??
Tell Me Something Good
I Feel For YouBruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder
The Valley RoadBruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers and Ricky Skaggs
Cartoons & Candy
The Way It Is (not the whole song, just from the last verse on, which they hadn’t played earlier)
Jacob’s Ladder > Pig in a Pen > Jacob’s Ladder%*w/Andy Leftwich
^w/Doug Derryberry and Sonny Emery
@w/Ricky Skaggs
%w/Tim Kaine (governor of Virginia) on harmonicaI thought it was a really good show, especially the parts where Ricky & Bruce played together. It was also fun watching the Noisemakers have fun being a funk band for a while, backing up Chaka Khan. And Bruce and J.V. (who I don’t think was miked, so we couldn’t hear him) rapped the opening to “I Feel For You” (Chaka Khan Chaka Khan Chaka Khan…)
And frankly, I could have done without the Skaggs family’s lectures on religion (and his revisionist history about why the settlers came to Jamestown–He said they came for religious freedom, but mostly they came to make money).
A few other notes: We were in front on the left, sitting 5-6 rows behind Bruce’s mom. For a couple of songs during the Bruce/Ricky/Kentucky Thunder set, J.T. came and sat out in the audience for a couple of songs with the group that included Bruce’s mom. He went backstage and then Derryberry came and sat in the audience with them for a few songs.

ParticipantJust got my copy (ordered from CMT) and am listening to it right now. I like it a LOT (although CMT is apparently shipping the autographed liner separately, according to the person at customer service–if anyone has gotten theirs, please let me know).
I read the two reviews up at Bruce’s official site (and hate to tell Steven Wine that “Crown of Jewels” is not a new song), and for me, they don’t quite hit the nail on the head. I wish it had been a live rather than studio recording. I miss the interaction that must have gone on between the two of them–the banter that comes before and after the songs that you get to see on the CMT special. I would think that this must have been hugely fun to do, and I’d like to have more sense of that.
That said, it’s still an awful lot of fun and great to listen to.
So that’s my $0.02.

ParticipantUh–never mind what I said about Tennessee, Vic. Good luck to them in the Sweet Sixteen. 😳

ParticipantLike Bruce himself, I am a proud supporter of the University of Virginia Cavaliers. Vic, I’m afraid that your Vols aren’t going any further than Columbus on Sunday. 😆

ParticipantI’ve got it on my DVR and would be honored to make you a copy, Si, if you can play U.S. DVDs. Send me your address…
I would also be willing to do B&Ps for others as long as the demand doesn’t get overwhelming.

Ellen_G
ParticipantNope. It went to George Benson for “Mornin.”

ParticipantQuote:Any idea how he got the name “Skunk”?According to Wikipedia:
Quote:Jeff (Skunk) Baxter (born December 13, 1948 in Washington, D.C.) is an American rock guitarist, and currently is an anti-terrorist consultant to the U.S. government. His career includes stints with Steely Dan and the transitional incarnation of the Doobie Brothers, as well as longtime session work for a diverse array of performers.Contrary to rumours that the nickname “Skunk” alludes to anti-social habits (his self-deprecating wit may cause some to mistake it for social reluctance), or that a band member hung it on him in a lefthanded tribute to his looks (unknown or unconfirmable), its actual origin is unknown. Baxter has been quoted as saying he has no intention of revealing just where it came from, or why.
Even odder than his nickname, IMHO, is the business about him being an anti-terrorist consultant…

Participant2005 Biltmore is available from
https://www.munckmusic.com/wms/hornsby/index.html
If you don’t know, this is Bruce’s official release, so it’s a soundboard and it’s really great–well worth the money (it was a truly great show). Since Bruce has released it, trading of bootlegs (or even of copies of the official release) is frowned upon.

I love the sound of the cello and desperately wish I had some musical talent. Sadly, however, I am all but tone deaf.

Participant10/4/02 Washington and Lee Show
This was quite possibly the best Hornsby show I’ve ever seen, matched only by Biltmore 8/20/2005. It absolutely rocked. The venue was tiny and everyone was standing (at least up front where I was), and it was like a big party. I know there was at least one taper there, and I’ve been kicking myself for 3 1/2 years that I didn’t talk to the guy to try to arrange to get a copy–I haven’t even been able to find a setlist. I would LOVE to have this one released. So, I’m sorry, Will, but I’m going to ignore your advice and vote for a show I was at.
That’s my two cents, anyway.

ParticipantI’m getting an error message that GigsofGigs is down.
If that’s what you get, then the problem isn’t at your end, and you just need to wait for GigsofGigs to get back up and running. When that happens, you should just need to click on the Name That Tune link and the song will play.
Hope this helps–
Ellen

ParticipantAha! I thought I had tried that, but apparently I hadn’t. Thanks for the help, Allisa.
