Thanks for the clarification of these shows.

I wrote this up without actually researching his last show with them. This is by far the best version of him on piano before Garcia’s death that year.

I think Ricky Skaggs should be inducted into the hall of fame. He has influenced Bruce’s career this year more than anyone else at this time. The record he cut with Bruce got all the way up to #1 on the billboard bluegrass chart. That’s definitely hall of fame status.

There is an error in the article as well. The author refers to Bruce’s box set and says that there is a video of ramble on rose in it! (Of course those of us who own it know its They Love each other)

I would have to agree with countrydoctor that the Ricky Skaggs at the Ryman was the best one. I would definitely like to hear the rest of that concert, especially going down the road feelin bad.

One last correction…. Bruce’s concerts are spread throughout all three links on the link given in my last post. Box of Rain is not the only link that has Bruce, Dark Star and Sugaree contain Bruce concerts as well.

Since downloading is open, you will need to go to this page and click on the box of rain link in order to have access to download all of the Bruuuce concerts.

    http://tela.sugarmegs.org/__README_TO_DOWNLOAD.html

Once you click on one of the concerts and the windows media player opens, you will need to allow the full concert to load before downloading. Once it is completed click on “file” and then click “save media as”

Let me know if anyone has trouble with this.

    Enjoy!

If you go to the main page of sugar megs (click on the sugar megs home link on the top of the page). They are allowing downloading of all shows as I write this comment. They allow downloading from 5 PM to 9 AM Saturday and Sunday every week. There are so many gems on that page besides all the Bruce stuff. There is even an early Elton John concert on there from the 70’s as well and a ton of Grateful Dead concerts as well!!!! There are some Dead concerts that Bruce played in that are unavailable on archive.org too!!!

I’m glad everyones enjoying this site!

I read an interview a few weeks back that suggests that Vince really didn’t care much for sharing the spotlight with Bruce. It was a one on one interview with Vince in 2000 (I cannot remember the link). Anyways, I think that Bruce really pushed Vince along during his tenure and tried to make the most out of the situation. Once he left, you can easily tell by listening that Vince killed some concerts between 92-95. I still respect him though for staying with it and having to replace the big shoes left by Brent. That would be a tough situation for anyone. Anyways, the best concert of that time span still is the March concert in Charlotte, NC with Bruce. Vince really was on that night, it almost seemed like he was trying to prove to Bruce that he finally had the chops.

Now that you mention it, it does seem really cool! I wonder if I am the only one that has a thumb print on my Bruuuce signature?

I got mine today!!!! The only issue with my autographed cd liner is that their is a large thumb print in the middle of Bruce’s middle initial “R” Other than that, it is a fine piece of history.

    SI,

I would like to request a video of Bruce playing “Valley Road” with the Grateful Dead. I keep searching constantly to find a video of a dead concert with the Valley Road in it and have been unsuccessful.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

When the concert began with Bruce playing Intro to the way it is, I thought it was hilarious when he said that this was the straightest he played the song in 20 years. This show was definitely worth the wait and deserves praise. The song selection was superb. Valley Road was played flawlessly like it was on the box set as well. I cannot wait to listen to the CD in March.

Last years dose day was a huge success as well, I cannot wait to see what surprises are on the way!

    Thanks,

Yeah, this concert is one of the best of the Bruce era. This is one concert I listen to very frequently because the entire band seemed to be really on track in this concert

    The Music World needs help

From reading everyones comments, I have to agree with most of you. The music industry machine has produced some really lame stuff as of late. Current and upcoming artists cannot stand out like Elton John, Billy Joel, Don Henley, and many other icons of the decade. Each one of those people has produced hits that are staples of the music industry and many artists try to imitate them in some way.

The new millenium has been full of one hit wonders and consistency in the business is near extinction. Older singers and groups like U2 and Bob Dylan have withstood the test of time. They can still produce top hit songs even long after their defining era. The music industry needs more consistency and the direction they are heading does not show any signs of improvement.

I have to agree with others comments about how people like Brittany Spears and Justin Timberlake represent everything that is wrong with music. I also agree that Phil Collins is the man and does not get the proper recognition he deserves in the music world. His work is some of the best stuff that ever came out of the industry.

The bottom line is we need more people like Phil Collins that are the total package. I have almost completely turned off most new music since 1999. Their is too much junk that record companies produce every year. The Grammys this year were a disaster, with the exception of the Police reunion and Stevie Wonder and Tony Bennett winning. That was definitely awesome.

As for Bruce, he has also withstood the test of time. The music world needs to begin to appreciate his work as well. I remember going out to circuit city and best buy in search of the intersections box set the first day it came out. Noone carried it in their stores. When I asked employees if they had it in stock, they gave me a crazy look. Its too bad my generation has yet to embrace his music.

This ain’t my style, this ain’t my home
I’m going where it’s safe to roam
Take me all the way back
    To the wild frontier
    Well I’m counting the miles
Seeing her smile in the wild frontier

It was great hearing this song after its long hiatus on Bruce’s tour

That would be tough to pick just one of them…….. If I had to choose though, I would have to say Valley Road because it stands out from all the other songs he ever did with the Grateful Dead or even the Other Ones. It was too bad that after 12/90 he never played it again with the Grateful Dead during his tenure and guest appearences. It was very unique from all the other material he played with the Dead. I never much cared for Stander on the Mountain much. His version is a lot better than the one he did with the Grateful Dead. My top three would have to be Valley Road, WWL, and of course Rainbows Cadillac with the Other Ones.

I have yet to see a video of Valley Road with the Grateful Dead and keep looking all over the torrent world to find one……

Miss Virginia and other Bruuuuce fans, what do you think is the best Grateful Dead cover Bruce has ever played at his own concerts?

For that category I would have to say its a tie between Jack Straw and Standing on the Moon. Both songs have a unique sound to them when Bruce plays them. I know Bruce tries to avoid playing Jack Straw because he does not want to be known for just one song from the Deadicated album. I understand that completely because I am sure he gets more requests for that song wherever Deadheads follow him.

Just as a side note… It is snowing like crazy where I am. We must have at least 1 foot of snow out there….another foot is expected during the afternoon!!!!

If anyone has any other videos of the grateful dead playing the weight with Bruce, please post them!!!!

In my own opinion, I think the weight, Jack Straw, and Maggie’s Farm were the 3 best Grateful Dead songs during the Bruce era.
