“The ballroom is a sweet venue…”

The Townballroom is way too small for somebody like Bruce and could be a complete fire hazzard the way they pack the place. Its probably the same kind of place that Great White burned down. Somehow they squeeze 1000 people into a room that really should only hold 600 at most. The stage is tiny and the ceiling is too low. I haven’t heard a recording from that place that wasn’t ruined with boomy bass from the ceiling being a foot from the mic. Don’t get me wrong theres not really a bad spot in the house its just not that roomy for dancing and what not.
Anyways, I’ll be there riding the rail.

Hey thanks alot for posting the setlist. I really didn’t think to try and score one at the show. I usually try and get a setlist from a roadie after a concert. I actually collect them and usually get them signed by the band. I have about 30 of them. I’m glad you had fun at the show.

Hey, I hope you were able to get rid of your tickets in time. Its a shame to miss a show that you were looking forward to see, but sometimes it has to happen.

I am about to leave for the almost 5 hour drive to this show from Cleveland. I am pretty stoked to be able to see Bruce this year and hopefully its not the last in ’08. I hope tonights show will be pretty sweet, as I am not too familar with Skaggs music but with the collaboration of Mr. Hornsby it makes it a little easier to take in. It should be a good time had. See ya there.

The Vince/Bruce years with the Grateful Dead was my favorite era…with Vince on the keyboard and Bruce on the grand piano and accordian. My favorite GD shows are mostly from 1991. I have the show 9/20/90 and never heard any cord calling, but remember that is only the fifth show with Vince and Bruce playing together and only Vince’s eighth show with the Dead. Stander on the Mountain was a couple months later anyways.
I have seen and heard many Vince interviews and never heard of the so-called ‘sharing of the spotlight’ comment. Vince was too grateful for earning his job with GD to even have an ego. I have met Vince many times as well as the rest of the GD members and Vince was the most down to earth of the bunch. Hell, some of those dudes actually run from you after a show to get away from fan interaction.
Vince was easily the most under-rated GD member and didn’t get the credit he deserved. He and Bruce kinda resurrected GD in the 90’s. Bruce woke up Jerry and Vince brought in some great songs. The Dead sounded their best in years, between 90 and 93. Vince busted out some great Beatles tunes and resurrected ‘Here Comes Sunshine’ plus the addition of his songs. Yeah, Vince’s solos were not as hot as Brent’s at times but his sound was great and refreshing. I love his midi-effects. I have a huge collection of 90’s shows and never heard Vince ‘kill’ a show, if anything Jerry killed plenty of shows with his mumbling at times and singing the wrong lyrics. Dead shows from 94 and 95 had some bad shows but there was still some magic.
Listen to Vince’s band ‘Missing Man Formation’ and you’ll see that he was a great musician and what a great band he had. It sucks that he was sold so short and how so-called dead heads treated him the way they did.The Vince years are all I got to see of the Grateful Dead and he did not disappoint. He was cool as hell and is missed.

I just found the my tape. Its just a two song filler, ‘Playing in the Band’ and ‘G.D.T.R.F.B.’. I thought there was more than that. I compared the ‘Playin’ to the one on the Hornsby’s Place site and they sound exactly the same. I got it from a Dead Hour type show that was played on Mondays on a college station here in Cleveland during the late nineties and up to about ’03. Man, I miss that show along with the two hour Phish program they played on Wednesdays.

What I think is cool is Bobby’s site about the Octane Kids. It neat to see the old photos and the stories of the band. It was funny to hear Bruce’s voice back then. I have one of their shows somewhere, I gotta look for it. Its been a few years since I jammed it. Thanks again for the link.

Hey goaves, I agree with the Orlando 88 show, this is one of my favorite old school Bruce shows. It used to be the 87 Daytona show for a long time, but then I got my hands on the 88 Daytona. I love the ‘Old Playground’.
My favorite solo show is the show Bruce played the day Jerry died 8/9/95. He dedicated Wharf Rat > Lady with a Fan to Jerry and you could hear in Bruce’s voice that he almost lost it for a second. I think it was a great dedication to his lost friend.
I am still not sure what my favorite show is with the band though. It is everchanging. 2/20/05 Dallas, Texas is one of them and probably the 98 Yoshi show with Phil Lesh and Steve Kimock.

I got my fingers crossed in hopes that Bruce and the band come to Cleveland this summer, or atleast within a 4-5 hour driving distance. My last handful of shows were solo, so I’m in need to hear Bruce with the Noise Makers.

Hey thanks for sharing this historical moment in the Bruce/Dead world. This was my cousin’s first Dead show and 6 years later he took me to mine at Buckeye Lake. Bruce’s first and last show with the Dead both took place on June 25th. Just a small factiod from the who cares file.

I meant I can’t find too many of my Reconstruction shows from that month as that was their only year. The Boarding House show is pretty rare, now I’m searching again for it.

The only problem I had was that they didn’t include the Mandolin Rain video. Also, the Another Day live footage cuts out as it is about to go into something else. Oh yeah, I guess I have three problems, they used the studio version of Rainbow’s Cadillac instead of a live cut. I always heard that song live and when I did finally hear the studio version I was sooo let down. The studio version sounds kinda cheezy and does not do it justice, that song was meant to be heard live. So I guess thats my three cents so to speak.

Man, this would be nice to have. You’re lucky. I have never seen a TOO video out there. Of all the family shows these were some of the best shows I’ve been to, basically only the 98 & 00 line-ups. The 02 shows were not as great.

I taped the Cleveland show back in October on my iRiver player and still haven’t converted it on to disc. Someday I will put it on to disc, especiallly now that I figure I am the only one with that show on record. My pc has windows me ops and my player’s software requires windows xp. I do have a new pc(sitting in the box since summer) that has xp ops and when I get around putting that one up I will put the show on disc. I still have about 60 gigs of crap to take off the old pc first. Hopefully someday I can put it into circulation, until then I just jam the show on my player.

Wow, its been awhile since I’ve been here. Sorry Will, I can’t help you out. I can’t find hardly any of my Reconstruction shows from that year for some reason. The sh!tty version I had on tape got the Phish hour(a show called ‘Ticket Stub in your hand’ like the Dead hour, played on a college station here in Cleveland) taped over it a few years back. I just found that out about a month ago. I found the tape and popped it in and heard an old Phish show I taped from the Phish hour. A really dumb thing to do now that I know someone could have restored it to some level.

Wow! DD you play for a band called Mid-Life Crisis. That’s kinda funny because there is three bands(if not more) in Ohio with the same name. I ended up seeing all three play at different bars near my town. I guess when a bunch of 40 something year old guys form a band that is a fair name for the band. So that being said I wonder how many bands with the name Mid-Life Crisis are out there. Pretty neat.

Oh yeah man, I know what date you want. I checked 45 of my 50 disc spindles of my shows from the 70’s and have not come accrossed it yet. I have the cassette but it isn’t worth copying from. I have many more spindles I can rummage through when I get back in town from being on the road with Ratdog. I will keep looking for you and let you know when I find it. In the mean time keep checking furthur because that is where I got mine.

Cool Erin, I checked it out. Neat stuff. It actually motivated me into getting one. I didn’t quite finish it yet, I will work on it later tonight hopefully, I only enlisted. I’m getting things ready for tomorrow’s show right now. You know, writing out my requests and looking through my Bruce memorabilia in hopes to have him sign something.
Hey Erin, have fun at your first Bruce solo show tomorrow!!!
I am attempting to record it(stealthly).

Hey Will, that was actually my first Reconstruction recording. Although, when I first received it from a friend it was labled JGB. It wasn’t until two or three years ago when I downloaded it from Furthur that I noticed that it was already in my collection but mislabled. So far, I can’t find my tape, but I’ll look around throughout my discs in my collection. It might even still be on Furthur.
I’ll pm you when I find it. I should have time this weekend.

Man, I wish I could have heard Howard ask Bruce about the drug thing and what Bruce said about if any members of the Dead dosing him…sounds like it would have been pretty funny. Oh well, thanks for the abridged-transcript of the show.

I was 15 when I attended my first concert. It was Nirvana in 1993 in Akron,Ohio. This was also the first band that I ever met and got autographs from. I wonder how much I can get for two signed cd covers from the band…haha like I would ever sell any of my autographs. It was a fun memorable night.

HaHa…thats pretty funny about you freaking out…just relax and it’ll all be fine. He does play around abit before the doors open. I almost always meet the bands/performers after the show, because that is when they have more time for you. I have met some bands/performers before shows, but they don’t have too much time to talk, just an autograph and a few words. Also I catch them at the hotel downtown where all the celebrities stay.
You would have to show up atleast two hours before doors open to meet him before the show. Seeing that it is a solo show makes it a little harder because he isn’t arriving in a tour bus, he will be in a normal car or minivan. So you would have to wait near the back door of the venue. Same goes with after the show. I will be trying before and after because I have something special for him to sign and last time I met him I didn’t have a camera so this time I will be prepared. Good Luck and enjoy the show!

Hey fellow Ohioan. I hope you have fun at your first solo Bruce show. I usually throw up about three or four requests. This is an easy venue to meet Bruce at. I can’t wait to meet him again. Have fun to all that will be there.
