I will be seeing Bruce and the boys in Pittsburgh on June 29th at Hartwood Acres. Its a free concert. Saw the band last year at the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Arts Festival. I am Stoked!

Hey see ya there!….can’t wait to check this place out.
I was at the Arts Fest one too…wish they’d play there again…I liked that place.

JF1 thats a good question to ask Si or any Bruce fan for that matter.
I am always interested in what other ‘fans’ think are the good songs and what songs they consider duds.

Back in the 1980’s I remember listening to a long piano instrumental solo played by Bruce but can’t remember exactly where I heard it. The only single I brought back then, as far as I can recall, was The Valley Road 12″ in the UK. Could it have been on that? From doing a little bit of research, the track must have been the piano intro to The Way It Is. The track length seems about right. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this track, ideally in a digital format?

There is one from the show that was broadcast on the King Biscuit Flower Hour. I think its Daytona Beach ’87.

Hey T – wow man I thought that you might have passed away or something. Its good to see you out of the woodwork and making a guest appearance…long time brah.

The ‘Big Swing Face’ thing worked tho. Many great jams with that shite and yes the white people feel the funk.

I know what my earlier comment is jumping the gun but its probably because I hate folkie/bluegrass shit as it goes nowhere for me. Bruce’s music takes me to many places and hopefully it still will…especially with 2 new guys who may not be good at improvisational jamming.

Earlier this year, Bob Weir finally brought out Ratdog after a 5 year hiatus and when he announced the his saxman Kenny Brooks and his axeman Mark Karan won’t be involved but instead an additional bass player Rob Wasserman will join along with the stellar Steve Kimock…most fans went nuts about no sax but two basses. The idea of Ratdog with no sax is just crazy and to have 2 bass players sounds even crazier….but it actually worked mostly because Steve Kimock is one of the best guitarists on the jam scene so his stellar playing made it work….that being said…who knows maybe Bruce’s new ‘makers might pull it off…hopefully they practice the shit out of that catalog and not just 30 songs neither…teach ’em at least 70 so the set list will be diverse. Its almost like seeing a show with Moyes instead of Sonny, you know they’ll play the same 12 songs each night without playing your request.

    Welcome back T-bone

JF1 – I totally agree and couldn’t say it better myself. I’m not a fan of the folkie/blue grass thing and can’t believe Bruce gave Bobby and Doug the pink slip.
The Noisemakers were so tight and now bringing in these new guys who probably are not big improvisation players will lessen the song quality.
The jams will be shorter now and the set lists will most likely be somewhat the same revolving 30 songs.
I guess I’m not that pissed that none of these shows are near me.
I thought about the Kentucky show as its a 5 hour drive but now I am glad I didn’t grab tix as that long of drive wouldn’t be worth it knowing that Bruce has yet changed his mind on his music and now wants to be a folkie/bluegrass band.

    Don’t fix what ain’t broke.

…as much as I am sure the ‘makers will still rock…I am really let down by this.

Just bought tix to Chautauqua but still scratching my head on what the line-up actually is.
It says Bruce with Sonny so is it just piano and drums?
I’m sure they’ll open for Metheny and come out for a couple songs but hopefully it will be the Noisemakers but if it is just Bruce & Sonny then I guess that’ll still be something special.

edit: as for those guys that somehow think Bob Weir’s voice sucks…then you should hear any recording from this past Ratdog tour as he sounded better than ever and you will easily change your mind…that Bruce/Bobby thing will be sweet.

I think any show featuring Weir is my kryptonite. but when Weir starts singing, I can’t skip to the next song quickly enough. JMO on that, and I may be in the minority as far as Deadheads go.

    Nothing wrong with Bobby’s voice…now Phil’s that’s another story.

Hopefully its with the Noisemakers and not with Skaggs.
The bluegrass thing gets old quick for me but I do want to see Metheny again.
However, I need the spontaneity of the jams along with all the other genres Bruce throws out there in a Noisemakers setting as those Skaggs shows are more structured with less jams.

Also, I am surprised however that Bruce would even be interested in doing another Bruce & Bobby ‘Alone & Together’ this Fall seeing that the GD crowd talk during shows and yell for GD songs the whole time(because they don’t have the music palate to know Bruce’s tunes) you can tell how annoyed he got during those Oakland shows so why go through that again.
I am pumped though to see Bruce & Bobby but I know its going to be annoying dealing with the GD song titles yelled all night and I am one of the hugest deadheads too but also love me some Hornsby and want to hear his catalog as Bobby will play the GD stuff.

Yeah that was pretty cool and great production as well.

You should try Drums from a Grateful Dead show…mix it up with the Rhythm Devils…just kidding man, but yeah that was pretty neat.

Maybe a Spider Fingers with Tempus Fugit in it as that should be a blast to try.

    Good luck!

Basically everything you said Si along with:

    • producton/sound/editing
    • personel/collaborations (if somebody I don’t like such as Warren Haynes or John ‘fake Jerry’ Kadlecik then I won’t like it peroid)
    • stands the test of time or will it get old fast
    • flow of songs as the wrong song order can mess up an album (don’t start the album with a ballad or put too many ballads in a row)

I love if the artist took the time to put together a great album cover and wrote interesting liner notes.
Jimmy Buffett is great for writing wonderful liner notes or atleast writes a story with pictures…I loved when Bruce wrote liner notes especially in Harbor Lights…loves me that kind of stuff…oh and also if the artist actually makes a vinyl version available.
Pretty much all I can think of at the moment…carry on

I am glad to see Doug get some recognition as I think he is pretty under-rated as he doesn’t really get to shine much…to me it seems like Bruce has a leash on him at times.
I usually request Country Doctor just to hear DD’s killer solo….I love his tone.

Bobby is awesome as well. The E-Wi is sweet and what he does with that thing is amazing….love the wind synth/electric wind.

I really hate to hear that munckmusic has gone downhill these days. They were really helpful when I was a newbie in the world of online downloads and were also very cooperative when I had a couple of other customer service issues. What a difference a decade makes…@

I did have it. Sadly, the CDs that they used were not of the highest quality, and deteriorated pretty quickly.

Sad to see Munckmusic go this way, as they were really good initially, and comped me a load of free CDs. I heard a similar tale from a lot of people too.

Yeah people have complained about them forever on the ratdog board. My final straw with them is when I ordered a Bruce cd that took two months to get and when they finally got back to me they said they’d hook me up with a free show next time I ordered something, so I instantly made a purchase to have them not only not hook me up but ignore my reminder of the so-called ‘hook up’…which is sad because munck is ran by only 3 people so its not like some huge business where messages get lost.

I was lucky enough to score amazing seats, not only front row, but center section, and I believe them to be right in front of Bruce so you can see his magical hands!!! I was going to take my wife and parents for my dad’s birthday, but with a 3 month old daughter, the trip from Maine is just too expensive.

Great score, but maybe you’re thinking of a different show as there were no seats in front of Bruce. It was general admission in front of the stage area.

You didn’t give the option for The Range, The Grateful Dead, The Other Ones, The Sensitive Ones, Bobby Hi-Test and the Octane Kids, Ambrosia, or Sheena Easton….just kidding.

I don’t think this is the place to try and make a buck of Bruce…most of these people here either have met him and have his autograph or at least know that you can get free autographs from Bruce through his site and address on his cd’s.
I think it would be less lame if you were actually a member rather than just joining in hopes to make a sale.
    Good luck tho…

I loved that song since first listen and played the hell out of it and still love it…especially when at a show.
One time I took the picture of Bruce with the clown make up on(pic from Halcyon Days) and used that as a request for GBSCM I know its probably been done before but couldn’t resist and it worked plus he laughed at it.
There are a few versions out there with alternate lyrics which I was lucky enough to get one time a couple years ago.
I always thought that if they put that song out as a single and gave it enough radio play, that Bruce could have had another ‘hit’ with it and possible reprise of the good ol’ days.

Heres a recording of D’Earth I found last year http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=559592 its pretty nice.
Although there are no seeders at the moment but if you sit there long enough somebody will help you out…I can’t because I burnt it to disc and deleted the download so I can’t jump on to seed but I am sure somebody else will.

I agree Molo is a drumming beast…fwiw anytime I have seen Molo it was with no hat…straight cue ball.
He actually rarely wears one with Phil Lesh and Friends.

It’s fairly easy but the process blows as it doesn’t always work. Just use the browse line to find where your pic is then hit upload. You can only upload 5 at a time and they take a looong time.
I put up a few new ones from Saturday’s show in Aurora in my first album then I had to start a new album as I hit the 60 picture limit, but will slowly but surely put up more when I get back from this weekends Buffalo, NY trip…then I’ll have time to put up the rest of the Aurora show and maybe some from my archives.

It was over-heard at the hotel. JT was talking about that this may be his last show…retirement maybe…any ways like I said it was the rumor so let’s not get too worried yet. I don’t believe it because I think Bruce would mentioned something.
