Damn I wish he played Sad Moon.Woah! I guess I got so excited that I read S-A-D M-O-O…. And then raced to ask you if it was solo or not 😆
I admit that has happened to me a few years back…I saw Sad Mood on the setlist of a recording I was downloading but my eyes read Sad Moon so I was all excited then when I went to write out the setlist for the cd while the cd was burning I then noticed there was a ‘d’ at the end of Moo and not a ‘n’…that one letter can make a big difference.

I found this paper that is basketball print and I wrote ‘Please take me to the Old Playground’. I kinda figured he wouldn’t play it but it would have been pretty cool to have a pop-rock moment as its one of my favs from the Range era.Do your feelings get even a little bit hurt if the song you requested doesn’t get played?
Nope not really…but being the Bruce snob :ugeek: that I am…I do sometimes get annoyed if someone gets a request fulfilled that is a song I don’t want to hear or have heard too many times….those I won’t name.
A great performance can get tarnished by a subpar setlist due to ‘not so good’ requests by casual fans…yeah I know that sounds snobby 😆 but seeing that I usually have to drive a few hours to see BH I hope for an awesome setlist on top of a great performance. Don’t get me wrong I love all of Bruce’s songs but there are some I don’t really feel like hearing over others.GuinnessGoon

I was glad he wasn’t around for the Bruce show driving everyone up front crazyThere will be a lot of deadheads at the show as well so we can expect Jack Straw will probably be yelled out again
Yeah I seen that guy bugging you guys 😆
He was juiced and that was like what 4 o’clock in the afternoon…he was definitely blacked-out…rambling stuff to people and he kept yelling stuff to Van Ghost. At one point he was holding up a guitar pick ranting about something to the band.
Luckily that guy probably passed out somewhere before Bruce came on.I think we will always have the ‘Jack Straw yellers’ at any Bruce show. When I hear that request it instantly makes me think that person isn’t much a Bruce fan, because they should know he doesn’t want to play that song especially when it’s yelled to him. I am a huge deadhead but when I go see Bruce I look forward to hear his music…but if he wants to play a GD tune then thats just a bonus, even though I did ask him before the show to play ‘Loser’
and he told me he doens’t think the band will remember it as they haven’t played it for 8 years…then he told me he’ll play it with Bobby Weir at All Good.
Thanks for the Rochester info. I just bought the VIP for that show. Can’t wait!!!

Participantgoaves wrote:Guiness Goon,That must have been you next to me the whole time. I think I handed you a request with Swing Street on it to have Chuck Keith set on the stage. It was a scorcher! I was there around 4 PM waiting. Can’t wait till Thursday’s show! I have the VIP pass for afterwards too.
Yeah that was me 😆
Its a shame he didn’t bust out your song. You’re right about a scorcher man that was some brutal sun….I will never understand how Bruce can play with long sleeves in that kind of heat.
I hope that video that dude was recording of the show gets out there, plus I seen 2 or 3 tapers. I talked to the one guy and he said he plans on putting it up on etree so that’ll be nice.
I’ll be hitting up the Rochester show too, its a 4 hour drive for me, but I’ll be there riding the rail.
Sometime today I’m gonna purchase the VIP pass for the show…..I have a nice poster that needs some signatures and since I grew a shoddy beard I need to update a picture of me with Bruce.

I’ll upload it…
I agree that was a NICE jam…not sure I have that show…2001 & 2002 were my favorite years of Bruce as they jammed out big time during that period. Wish more sbd’s of shows from that era were available especially those shows with Steve Kimock, man those smoke.
Thanks for sharing the BooJune 3, 2012 at 4:54 am in reply to: Specific versions of songs that are absolutely top notch #33347GuinnessGoon
ParticipantMy favorite version of a song in person is last year Memorial Day in Cleveland.
Bruce played Mandolin Rain > Standing On The Moon > Mandolin Rain > Standing On The Moon.
During SOTM a huge boat cruised down the river behind the stage and just as it is passing Bruce he goes back into Mandolin Rain at the part ‘Boat steaming in’ heres a clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_ZfFAvOQ-wI agree with JF1 about the 8/24/01 Harbor Lights thats my favorite one too…such a great jam!
also the Passing Through from 8/23/01 Saratoga, CA is a stellar version…such a stanky ass grooveGuinnessGoon
ParticipantI always had mixed views on the Intersections dvd.
It did have many nice videos but there were some stuff I would have left off(chaka for starters) for better stuff.
I definitely would have included the Mandolin Rain video.
I didn’t like the version of They Love Each Other from the Dead…it was a poor performance IMO, I definitely would have picked a stellar version of Eyes Of The World to showcase how awesome the Grateful Dead was/is plus Bruce has a killer solo in that song. I also wished atleast one or two more live performances of the Dead with Bruce was included and then some live Range and some live 93 with Jimmy Haslip.
All in all it is a nice dvd but I wish there was other live performances throughout the years and line-ups.:ugeek:

Fun set…..thats sounds awesome. I can’t make dvd’s anymore as I used to dl them from torrent sites or receive them in trades but my burner doesn’t cut it anymore as I would love to hook up JF1 with the Saratoga show but can’t.
I still have the Buffalo BH show I went to from 8/1/09 taking up 5 gigs on my pc but could never get my burner to burn it to disc so its just sitting there waiting to get on disc one of these days.GuinnessGoon

Yeah the dvd of the show circulates amongst torrent sites. If I could make you a copy I would but I can’t sorry. I’m sure there are some people here that have it.

ParticipantThanks for the heads up
I check Bruce’s site often with hopes that he puts up more dates closer to my town.
This show is 4 hours away so I’ll definitely be going to this show.
I’m pretty stoked that I get to see Bruce a few times this yearGuinnessGoon

I love that whole show actually…the Stander on the Mountain from that set is awesome too.Did Si put up that whole show? How did you get all of it?
I am an avid torrent downloader so I find as many Bruce shows as I can.
The copy of this show that I found didn’t have good enough sound quality for me so I EQ’d the recording to make it sound better before I burned it to disc. I remember the vocals were distant and the bass was a little boomy so I was able to easily bring up the vocals and lower the bass. I’m not sure what source Si has but its cool to see him bust it out for ya JF1…the whole show is awesome. Really great jamming!
Thanks Si for getting it out to the people here who may not get to find Hornsby gemsGuinnessGoon
ParticipantI hope he does put up more dates….near Ohio within 3 hours.
It sorta sucks that he is playing a show in my state but its at ALLGOOD festival for $189 and on a Thursday when he plays his set.
It would be awesome though as he is having Bobby Weir and Branford Marsalis join the Noisemakers but I gotta talk my cronies into ditching work and shelling out $189 to see Bruce and whatever else is playing that day and maybe the next day as well.
So far, I have the free PA show Bruce is doing on my birthday and possibly the solo Buffalo is nothing else comes closer, but I really want some Noisemakers shows coming my way.
Keeping my fingers crossedGuinnessGoon

ParticipantHey MVF
I wasn’t doubting your Hornsby resume and wasn’t aiming my ‘range’ comment at you or anybody that frequents this site. I am pretty sure anybody that took the time to join this site and comments on this board are real fans. My comment was aimed at the people that leave the ‘one star’ reviews on:
http://www.ticketmaster.com/Bruce-Horns … RRWidgetID
http://www.livenation.com/Bruce-Hornsby … RRWidgetID
Go to these sites and list the reviews by lowest to highest.
You’ll not only get a cheap laugh and pissed off at the same time but you will also understand ‘who’ my comment was aimed at.I am happy for you though MVF that you didn’t give up on Bruce throughout his David Bowiesque music career

ParticipantThe Beastie Boys are pretty much the best in their music genre. Not only are they better rappers than all those other guys but the BBoys also play actual instruments and not only rap but play rock and punk. They are a HUGE talent and a bad choice for an example of a band that you consider ‘shoddy’ thats in the rock hall. I do feel ya and know what you mean but the Beasties well deserved their honor.
Now there is no doubt about it that more than half of the bands in the ROH shouldn’t be and the way they get it is probably a sham as well.
I would love to see our boy Bruce get in the ROH but lets face it…you see what the crowd is like at shows…half empty and majority of the crowd is clueless and ignorant to what Bruce is doing. I see it all the time where an older couple have on their 1990 Range Tour shirts and hoping to hear ‘Every Little Kiss’ and scratching their heads at all the jazzy twelve minute long songs they never heard of and can’t get into, then they go home and bitch about it in their reveiws on ticketmaster.com and livenation.com take a look for yourself and you’ll know what I mean about my ‘majority of the crowd’ statement. Read all the one star reveiws…they are laughable and will piss you off. I hate it but those people are the ones that are at the shows with us.
I think Bruce would have to be still selling out shows and playing in atleast 5K seat venues to even get considered but it just isn’t happening and its a shame, but still keep your fingers crossed.GuinnessGoon
ParticipantAfter years of listening to the Grateful Dead and jazz music…I think that I hear music differently than others anyways if that makes sense. I am pretty musically evolved to get what Bruce does with his music and where he makes the band go with his songs. I always wondered how the Range crowd still linger around after he ditched that playing style so many years ago. I imagine his Dead and jazz experience opened up a new view on how he wanted to play and write his music instead of the poppiness of the Range days. Don’t get me wrong I like the Range poppy stuff but its the jamband jazzy stuff that got me into him.
…but if I had to pick something that I can label my least favorite its these two:
The ‘minor key’ version of Mandolin Rain
Preacher in the Ring pt 2Both of these songs are slowed down versions of already great songs.
The original version of Mandolin Rain is just too awesome to water down….so don’t fix what ain’t broke.
Preacher Part One is a nice fast paced jam but doesn’t make sense to have him play part one and then play a slow repeat right afterwards.Other than those two songs…I love all of Bruce’s work.
-Hey T…how can you not like the lyrics to Harbor Lights…Bruce telling us a story about trying to get laid…thats poetry brah.

Some of these will be up on the front pages as doses in the upcoming days. The Levon cover is up already.
Didn’t mean to do any correcting, my bad. I didn’t know you put it up anywhere.
I was just writing it out for anybody to see what they missed if they didn’t get to watch the show.
I opened the link from this thread to watch the show and then back paged it to post my comment.
Hopefully somebody stream-ripped the show and puts it up on a torrent site. One thing that was sorta funny was that Bruce called the Trombone players from Bonerama by the wrong name…he called them Mona Robin. He says it twice and then later gets their name right.

ParticipantAwesome quality and great camera shots.
setlist:
Sunflower Cat > A lot to Laugh, Train to Cry
Straight No Chaser > Rainbow’s Cadillac > Who Know’s > Rainbow’s Reprise
The Dirty Ground
The Way It Is w/Bonerama
The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down(for Levon)
Tango King w/Bonerama
Jacob’s Ladder > Cartoons & Candy
White Wheeled Limousine > Long Black Veil > Just One Drink > WWL RepriseIt was a blast getting to watch this as it happened live feed.
I almost didn’t make it home in time from stalking out the Texas Rangers at the hotel downtown C-Town for autographs. Once I got to meet Josh Hamilton I bolted home just in time for Bruce to start.
What a great set and the camera angles were pretty nice.
The Noisemakers were on FIRE makin’ that noise!

ParticipantT…yeah Bobby V ain’t helping much which is actually surprising me as he is one of my favorite skippers other than Maddon.
Yeah solo Weir is some good stuff brah. He is a great guitar player especially at acoustic guitar.
The site full of the whining was the ratdog.org board…full of people who think a Fake Jerry is appropriate to play with former members of GD but will whine about Bruce’s between song banters. Go figz.GuinnessGoon
ParticipantI was a little disappointed in Bruce’s setlists. I wish he would have busted out his best stuff seeing that he was playing for a mostly GD crowd. I read a lot of heavily criticized whining off another message board about Bruce’s performance and comments from these two shows.
I do love the Bruce/Bobby together part of the show…that Lady with a Fan > Dark Star > The Other One was sweet. I also love that Bobby busted out a solo My Brother Esau.GuinnessGoon
ParticipantI read the other night on the Ratdog.org board about a few ‘deadheads’ whining about Bruce ‘talking down’ to the crowds at the ‘Alone & Together’ shows he did with Bobby Weir. I laughed my ass off when I read what these guys were complaining about.
You can sorta hear it in the recordings but still funny to me because even though I am a huge deadhead I still think that it is the most pretentious crowd and I gotta feeling Bruce may feel the same way at times….especially when the hetty request of Jack Straw is yelled constantly at his shows by the peeps there for the wrong reasons. All in all…I enjoyed the previous random observations and comments…especially that T character’s what you thought I retired from the board.
