Bump bump bump…in hopes someone who lives in Cali that is attending this show could help me out.
Like I said if you can get this poster for me I will either just buy it from you or trade you a poster signed by Bruce and the Noisemakers. The poster I am talking about will look like an acoustic guitar with piano keys circling around it.
Any help would be awesome and greatly appreciated….please 8-)

Yeah T…I too would annoyed if Bruce was scheduled to play in my town and I eagerly bought tix all giddy like a school girl knowing that I was going to see that all mighty Spider Fingers only to later be informed that he chose to ditch my town to play at some festy before a mostly pretentious crowd loving the chicken wings eating champion Warren Haynes pissing in their ears with his horrible guitar noise and then having a Fake Jerry singing/straining his voice to sound like Jerry so all the kids in the crowd that didn’t get to see Jerry Garcia can close their eyes and pretend that John Kadlecik is really Jerry singing to them and then have Phil Lesh moan/grumble/gargle what he calls singing and they all think its so EPIC…but yeah that sucks that you had a chance to see our boy Bruce and it got canceled for a swamp fest in the land of old codgers. Atleast he was gonna go to yer town…my dive ass town ain’t even on his radar. Actually I’ll be leaving here shortly to head down to Fladah to stalk my Rays.
T Hopefully your show does get rescheduled and that you get to see some SOLO Bruce.

I love when more SBD’s become available, but it sorta sucks when I already have it from an AUD source.
Sometimes I would still purchase the SBD if the AUD wasn’t good or if the setlist was stellar, but the AUD I have I eq’d it to sound great so I’m passing on this purchase.

I hope more soundboards become available for purchase rather than just one every other month even though I already have basically the whole summer but there are still a few shows I need especially in SBD format.

I would love to see the Columbus show available seeing that taping was not allowed.

It would be sweet if all the shows from the past tours became available as there are so many shows from 2001 – 2005 that I would love to have the soundboard of. I already have all the ones he let out but so many better shows weren’t made available from those tours.

Ten years ago when ‘The Strokes’ made it big. I joined their fanclub for $20. It was pretty cool as the swag they gave me monthly was nice. The notables were a shirt, dvd, and a signed poster(which was a 24 x 36 size poster). I seen it go on ebay for $120 so I think it was a deal.
I still have all the swag but never renewed my membership.

Warren Haynes and John ‘Fake Jerry’ Kadlecik…no thanks.

I guess I’ll have to wait patiently til Bruce comes to my neck of the hoods.

Stand yer ground T. I’m there wicha mang.

Earlier this year when I got to go on Bruce’s tour bus I asked him about what he thought of some ‘cover band’ guy singing in a fake Jerry voice in a band with Phil and Bobby and to say the least we had good laugh about it. I won’t say what he said or thought about it but it was funny. I am surprised he would play that fest with that crappy band there.

    Hey T
I didn’t mean anything by my post…didn’t mean to piss ya of brother.
I got to do a BH soundcheck once and he chatted with us and busted out jokes and probably because there was only a handful of us he jumped down off stage and signed stuff and did a photo opp….this is actually a cool story and the short abridged version of it is that we stalked out Bruce before a gig and met him and chatted his ear off and then I grew some balls and blurted out ‘hey Bruce can we watch your soundcheck?!!?’ and he said ‘well yes you can’ and then opened this door and we followed him to the stage and just hung out.
Also, depending on how long or how many songs they do during a soundcheck it could be sort of a private little concert.
I seen quite a few soundchecks over the years and some where just a couple songs and some were like a mini pre show like when I seen Phish play for about an hour of just funky stank jamming with only like two actual songs thrown in the mix…then again there are some soundchecks like this one time Bob Weir/Ratdog did the same three songs three times each although we stayed in hopes of meeting the ace but that didn’t happen ’til after the show.
Anyways, I hope some people do become VIP’s for the reasons that Highway_61 states.
Also, Bruce could make a lot of extra jing if he just made every soundboard recording of his shows available instead of being picky and critical of his work to leave songs out or only bust out a few shows.

    :ugeek:

Yeah, GG — your tales of intrigue vis a vis modern culture and sport are always interesting, sincere my brah, you know that; interesting also is the DMB fobbing off responsibility. Can kinda see that due to the massiveness of the whole DMB leviathan…

On the other hand, this BH ‘upgrade’ was announced today from the BH Facebook account — no flyer from a venue, no mailer from TicketBastard, etc etc. The only wiggle room the BH camp might have is the company pimping the upgrade, is some ‘rockandrollteeshirt’…hold on, being lazy…’rockandrolltshirts.com.’ Whatever.

Who knows, maybe BH bitchslaps them tomorrow morn. Or maybe not. The BH camp seems a bit on the small side, and quite unlike the gargantuan monolith the DMB has been since at least the late 90s. You can see how some flotsam and jetsam might get lost in the bureaucracy of a large organization, but BH and co.?

Bad taste in my mouth. Sorry to say so, and I don’t begrudge any touring/recording artist and his/her wish to earn a living/support a family, particularly in these times; recession, file-sharing, bootlegging, etc. We also know that BH isn’t hurting due to royalties, etc. Do we need to bring up Lowe’s? 😮 On the flipside, many of BH hardcore are somewhat picky, and some are of limited means, so each ticket purchased is an amount not spent on something else, food and drink out, parking, babysitter, gas, etc. Yes, I realize that BH already keeps his price down…much appreciated. But $129 for a peek backstage, a poster, and piece of plastic, with a coupon for an online site just ain’t tempting enough. This ‘package’ just seems to be a bit beyond the pale, and quite unexpected from the Hornsby biz apparatus. Is he aware that these are not the corp. and/or private gigs he does every once in a while?

    T

I hear ya mang/brah/bro nameth. T – I do understand the bad taste but I was just trying to lighten the blow of the sense that BH is selling out with the masses of the VIP package venture as many other bands are doing these days.
I think if they(management or third party) see that only a handful(schmucks) buy into these shoddy packages then maybe they(m&3rdP) will give it up or make the package actually worth something.
The thing that bothers me is how few people show up for BH shows, making me think that this might be some way of making up for lower tix sales over the years.
I will never understand how small the crowds have become and why BH isn’t huge bigger due to his stellar skills/personality/style/awesome songs/killer band/you know what I mean.

Who wants a soundcheck, a laminate, a poster, and a $50 coupon for BH.com? You do? Well guess what, my friends, all this and no more — that’s right, no bothersome “meet and greet”! — can be yours for the low, low, low price of $129, a ticket “upgrade”!

    Hey T,
FWIW Bruce’s VIP is an extra $129 but you figure a concert poster usually costs about $25 – $30 though this one is limited and signed which would put the value a bit higher, a cd is about $15 – $20(even though I’m sure most people already have it), $50 coupon, and a soundcheck hang.
So its about $100 bucks of swag and then a soundcheck hang which is easily worth $29.
So all in all the final cost including a ticket would be about $200.
Yeah it can be laughable but it depends on how you look at it and how you want to break it down.
If a limited edition solo tour shirt came with it and a definite photo opp, the deal might sound a little better.
See I broke it down for ya T so that it doesn’t sting as much, but I do hear ya brother.

It seems that most bands or atleast their management is doing this VIP thing these days.
I mean, I don’t think Bruce is trying to think of ways to squeeze out an extra buck from his fans…he’s not Gene Simmons.

Although, most soundchecks are usually pretty cool but this is a solo show so will have less stage banter although Bruce has really good stage commentary anyways so that makes up for no band mate chatter, I imagine only a few people do the VIP stuff leading to a ‘meet and greet’ plus Bruce is so accessable, I couldn’t picture not being able to meet him during his soundcheck.

Honestly, if he was playing within 2 hours to my home I probably would shell out some jing and be a VIP because Bruce is my favorite and I will support anything he does…well until he does something involving rap/hip-hop or playing with Justin Beiber.

Like, I said I am sure this VIP thing has much to do with management and not Bruce. The deal isn’t as bad as most, but would have been cool with a shirt and photo opp.

This reminds me of when I met Cheech and Chong a few years ago(’08 I think?) anyways for $200 you got a shirt, hat, pack of rolling papers, and a meet and greet. I didn’t need any of the swag and I still got to meet them…for free. I feel bad for the ones that buy into the VIP bullshit.
A few years ago I got a VIP flyer for a Dave Matthews show that was coming to town. You know what you got for $200, let me tell ya kids, you got to enter the venue an hour early before every body else…yeah sounds good wait it gets even better…then you get to park in the ‘gold circle lot’ I remember when I was a kid there was a store called Gold Circle anyways….then you get to hang out in the private VIP tent with free finger food and drinks not the kind that make you feel good but the other kind like water and pop…then you get an upgrade to the middle of the pavilion…yes I said the middle of the pavilion(which is like row 20 – 30 something like that) anyways for the low price of $200…oh did i forget to mention that these were sent after the show was sold out so the $200 was on top of the ticket price already spent. Oh you noticed I forgot to mention meet and greet huh…yeah thats because there wasn’t one.
So lets recap kids after you spend $30 – $75 on DMB tix you can pay an extra $200 to park in the private lot, enter an hour early, eat free finger foods/water/pop in the VIP douche tent, and get upgraded tix 20 – 30 rows in the middle of the pavilion.
I didn’t pay the $200 for any of that. I did get third row center for $75 the second tix went on sale and also before the show I stalked out DMB’s hotel and met the band. I did show Dave, Carter, and Boyd the flyer that was sent to me and they said that they had nothing to do with that and that is something that the venue and ticket companies do to rape fans. Dave appologized that I received the flyer and asked me to understand that they(DMB) had anything to do with it. He felt bad.

I listened to this and I would love to have it.
I don’t support entities such as Rhapsody as I don’t get music from them so I wouldn’t buy this unless I couldn’t find it else where.
I definitely missed the freebie given out a few years back.
I do think its pretty cool that this was recorded in Rick Carlisle’s living room. Its a nice little set Bruce busted out for his cronies.

Yeah Si, any help finding a copy of this intimate set would be awesome!

I never seen that before. Looks and sounds pretty cool.
“An impromptu concert recorded in Detroit Pistons head coach Rick Carlisle’s living room. Alone at the piano, Hornsby gets to be the coach while he plays songs of his own and snippets by jazz greats such as McCoy Tyner and Chick Corea. Candid conversation between songs makes you feel like you’re attending a private party”
I too am on the fence on the purchase but if it was already given away free then no money was to be made so I don’t know if Bruce would be denied anything that he already made available for free. I guess I’ll keep looking around for it else where before I support rhapsody.

    I second that emotion :)

I have Jimmy Buffett’s xmas disc and jam a few times during the season.

I think Bruce could do a good one.
He could have a couple solo songs and then use the ‘Makers on most of them and probably even have someone like Huey Lewis or Bob Weir join on one or two.

Did you mean to say they play SOTM so well as Halcyon Days is their song so hopefully they do play that well ;)

This is a good question but man I can think of so many great transitions that are mostly one offers such as the time they did Boo Radley > Harbor Lights, but in a more traditional sense I always enjoy Pete & Manny > Barcelona Mona.
I also like Mandolin Rain > SOTM…especially the one they did earlier this year in Cleveland when they kept bouncing from MR>SOTM>MR>SOTM>MR.
About ten years back Bruce used to do Talk of the Town > The Way It Is, but arranging TWII to a more slowed down jazzier beat. I have a few recordings of them doing that from mostly 00-02 era.

I love Mirror on the Wall and really dig it on the dulcimer. I didn’t really care for Valley Road on the dulcimer like he did Saturday.
I video taped Bruce doing MIrror earlier this year in Cleveland so I’ll have to check it out to see if I can see and pinpoint the NM who you might be hearing as Bobby and Doug usually do most of the back up but there are many times when they all do.

Yeah, the shredding of drumsticks was pretty funny to see from Moyes. I think he did a good job and wonder how many songs that they played that he didn’t know and just winged it. I did miss Sonny’s drumstick magic solo but Moyes put on a nice solo of his own.

Honestly, I wasn’t into the ‘new version’ of Valley Road. The song is such a jamming song that a stripped down slow version like that isn’t necessary. I have heard/seen Prairie Dog Town played a lot and this was easily the best version I ever heard. It was more rocking and jammed out than ever. The song is ok but this version was awesome.

This is my favorite venue but not my favorite place to see Bruce as the crowd doesn’t get into the grooves. Bruce told the crowd many times to dance if they want and only a few drunk chicks did but the security keep harassing them even when Bruce told them twice not to. It is hard for me to deal with sit down shows because it is draining to just sit there. I didn’t get my groove on because I was front row center and the dancing areas were basically more towards the back in the aisle…because Bruce stopped the show when ‘drunk chicks’ were harassed the second time and a whole few minute ordeal of assigning a dance area took place.

I liked this show a little better than the one two years ago because of the setlist. Both shows had stellar jamming. This one had more annoying people there for the wrong reasons though. Seriously, give it up on yelling Dead songs especially ones he has never played. I am one of the biggest Deadheads you will ever meet but I want to hear Bruce play his catalog but if he does play a GD song that would be awesome but I wont annoy him with yelling out Terrapin, Dark Star, Friend of the Devil, Sugar Magnolia, and the ever annoying yell for Jack Straw…like the crowd did Saturday…those were a few of the songs I heard yelled out.

I asked Wayne if this would be a show to be considered to be available for sale and he said most likely. So lets keep our fingers crossed.

The raffle they had for the autographed poster was sort of a joke because they didn’t tell you when they would do the drawing and also never announce who won as they picked a number then waited a minute or two, and then picked another number as the winner wasn’t present. They did this four times until someone that was at the drawing won.
I bitched about how shoddy that was and they gave me an unsigned poster because they felt bad. Its a cool poster too because it shows all the Noisemakers faces, a live shot from when they played this venue two years ago, and has the date and venue name on it. My next project is to get this poster signed by everybody under there face shots. How cool would that be.

So I’m keeping my fingers crossed that something within 2 hours away will be added.

    S’up brah?

Didja fergit yer new budday ol’ T does his chillin’ near the last 2 solo dates?

Make that drive from Bugtown (or will you still be stalking Joe Maddon in Tamper/St. Beatersburg?); from what I understand it ain’t TOO bad, particularly for a road warrior such as yourself. Plus, I’ll even let you sleep on the couch AND drink some, that’s SOME of my Guinness.

    😆

Can’t wait for the solo gigs — never seen one…I could be wrong, but I believe the last solo gig he did near southeast VT was at the Egg in Albany ’06. I was not present at said show, but have managed to see the NMs 4x in the past 3 years, so I can’t complain. Nah, I still can…

    T

T if im back from FL in time(depending how homesick I get) I might take you up on that offer, but I’d have to fly over…where you’re at is well past my 5 hour drive limit :)

Yeah I believe his last solo tour was 06 as that was my last solo show.

I’m with JF1 as I too would rather have a ‘Makers gig but a solo BH show is a really cool thing to experience.
He slays through so many songs and its such an intimate moment with him ;) as he tells a lot of stories and jokes and what not. Solo gigs may not be as fun as a NM show but its neat to see/hear what he can do with those spider fingers.

T you’re lucky you get two solo shows this tour…but thats alright I had the chance of getting 4 BH gigs this year even if I ditched the one…but 3 out of 4 ain’t bad.

Yeah, I think it is pretty cool how Bruce has been doing his shows during the last few years with having a moment in the set where he busts out the accordian for two songs and then again with the dulcimer for two songs.
The only downside for me is during the dulcimer moments Bruce might strip down a song that I would rather hear the regular arrangement of for example ‘Mirror Mirror on the Wall’ …..but I still do enjoy the stripped down version don’t get me wrong.

Bruce set format sorta reminds me of when Bob Weir & Ratdog started to have an opening jam session leading into a song open their first set and then opening the second set with a few acoustic songs and then a jam session in the middle of the second set without Bobby to give him a breather and let his boys have at it musically on stage…that has been their set format for awhile now.

The comment about ‘the big three’ reminds me of Jimmy Buffett’s set format with his ‘big 8’. He has 8 songs that you are guarranteed to hear amongst 20 other great tunes.
Actually, from my experience Bruce’s ‘hits’ for the casual ‘fans’ in the crowd would be The Way It Is, Mandolin Rain, Valley Road, End of the Innocence, and then you gotta throw in songs like Rainbow’s Cadillac, Jacob’s Ladder, and Sunflower Cat as well because you are almost guarranteed to get half of those songs in a set each night…which I don’t mind at all. Good times :)
