    Yeah T,

I am glad I didn’t find out the hard way by driving 4 hours to find out that Bruce will be play for only an hour and fifteen minutes before Bela’s hour and forty minute set.

Yeah it would still be a cool show because you know they would both make appearances in each others sets, but if I’m driving four hours for a show its gotta be Bruce playing at least two hours after Bela’s hour opener.

I still have the Columbus and Pittsburgh shows to go to which are only 2+ hour drives so that won’t be that bad.

The Columbus show will be extra sweet as it is the 16th anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s death and usually Bruce pays homage to him when he plays on that date. I got to see him in Buffalo that date in 09 and also on Jerry’s birthday in Buffalo in 08 and at both of those shows Bruce spoke a lot about Jerry and played a couple of GD tunes.
I am not one to ask for GD songs at a Bruce show as I know it probably annoys him but on that date it is a giving. I mean how annoying is it to see the part of Bruce’s crazy mixture of crowd to yell out Jack Straw at every show knowing it annoys him. I am one of the biggest GD fans and that annoys me. As much as I enjoy Bruce play Dead jams I don’t expect it….I’m too busy trying to get ‘Lost in the Snow’ and ‘Invisible’ you know songs that don’t get much play but are my favorites.

Damn, looking harsh for the T and possible New Eng. dates…

For a while this afternoon, I was all about going to this date after ascertaining that the show starts at 6 p.m. and goes to 11:30 p.m. Supposedly.

Jaimoe’s side project opens, then either BH or Bela, then whoever is after, then Gregg from what I can understand. (The Guinness Goon says that for some show, BH opens for Bela…are they switching spots?)

The reserved seats, under a tent, are $78. The gen ads are apparently behind said tent, and to the sides…for $45.

Have never been to the Summer Wind, and now with a grumpy and cheap wind blowin’ in across me, I can’t say that I will make it to lovely Windsor. More of the same — just don’t wanna waste the money, when BH has spoiled us so much in the past.

This could all change as the date nears, though — I won’t be able to make the 9/3 gig at Portsmouth as well as the 10/2 show in Beantown, both for fam functions, dontchaknow. P’raps another gig will pop up between those two, udderwise I’ll be heckling Bruce at the world-famous Colonial in metropolitan Keene…. 😆

For which show(s) is BH opening? Where did you see/read/hear such scandalous assertions??? 🙄 😆

Check out Bruce’s tour page and then click on the venue link. They tell you the times and who opens.
Almost all of the shows Bruce is the opener.
I just sold my 3rd row tix to the Kettering show because I’m not gonna drive 4 hours to get an hour or so of Bruce and two hours of Bela. Just not worth it to me.
Bruce just announced a Pittsburgh show for September 1st so I’ll hit that up.

Ask the man himself. Bruce seems to have a pretty good memory of his shows. Write or email him or ask him on his site(if he still does that).
You know that dvd sounds pretty cool ;)

After a meet-up with Victor in Boone, NC, at Appalachian State, for a solo show……I went back to my car to get my tic. I just happened to park behind the Venue and was walking to the front to go in. I just happened to hear a car door slam beside me and…..There was Bruce! He had come out before the show to go to his car and get his “infamous” black shirt! We waved at each other….Some small talk…..And had the opportunity to ask him about his black shirt he was holding in his hand on a hanger. Seems he has several of those……So he says……

Anyway…..Before his second encore……He looked at me and said, “You’ve been quiet tonight.” “What do you want to hear?” I immediately yelled out King of the Hill. He said, “I can do that.” So he did…..

Yeah sometimes the Chuck’s are a greyish color kinda like black ones worn out. Also, sometimes his button-up looks dark blueish, but its still kinda funny some one else noticed.

After the show yesterday when we were talking with Bruce, JV, and Sonny….this little kid came up to Bruce and was like ‘Bruce I am your biggest fan and had so much fun I love you’ and I swear it look like Bruce was gonna cry because this kid was so tiny and had this cute timid voice. It was hilarious and awesome, that little kid has great taste in music.

Yesterday was almost a rerun of the Cain Park incident which Bruce talks about in the news article.
He did rip on that crowd from the Cain Park show a few times during the show which was kinda funny.
I’m telling you he hates sit down crowds folks.

I did notice one taper but from the looks of his set up I would be surprised if he got a good pull as he was about five rows from the stage with his mics three feet in the air with people sitting around him possibly talking at times. It would be awesome if he puts it up on a torrent site somewhere, I haven’t really checked yet as I am a member of seven torrent sites so I will definetly do some searching the next few days.

I did get the satisfaction of snubbing someone yesterday who I once considered one of my close friends. This asshat stiffed me on an out of state Bruce show back in ’09 at the last second. I woke up the day of the show and turned my phone on only to receive a text that he sent at 1:40 am saying that he can’t go. He really had no reason except his immature girlfriend who is five years older than us pretty much gave him a hard time about going with me. He never apologized and we never spoke since the night before that show when he told me he couldn’t wait to go. So you can understand why I crossed him off my friend list.
So anyways I seen the two of them walking towards me right before the show started yesterday and they both looked like they were happy to see me and looked like they were about to greet me and then it happened….I turned my head and just walked by. It was great! Their minds were blown believe me guys. I seen them sitting a few rows behind us looking miserable while I was having a blast with everyone front row.

I went into the show with my fingers crossed hoping that it wouldn’t be a sit-down show…then my nightmare came true. During Valley Road the crowd sat on their hands. Thankfully before Tango King started Bruce announced that everyone is more than welcome to come dance in front of the stage, meaning that the people who in the bleachers who only paid the rib-cook off admission of $5 can get in front of the people who paid $30 and be near the stage. So thankfully he did that so the crowd did become alive with some dancing and fun. Granted we had front row seats but the space from front row to the stage was about 15 feet and the stage was about 5 feet high. So I got right up to the stage which naturally was fun and still considered front row.
Bruce did say that at the show the day before he had Bela Fleck and Jimmy Herring play with him so that would be a sweet show hopefully someone recorded and will share with us.

It was nice to meet Bruce again after the show. This was the ninth time I got to talk with Bruce over the years and having met many celebrities Bruce is one of the most down to Earth and kindest of them all. I can’t wait to see him two more times this summer.

Yeah this post was a just shy of a novel but thanks for reading it if you made it all the way through.

Hey T you always crack me up brother, hopefully Bruce comes near you this summer.

    Good times :D

I would love to see Bruce at the Biltmo. Its where one of my favorite movies was filmed, ‘Private Eyes’ with Don Knotts and Tim Conway.
Anyways, I would love to make the 9 hour journey down south to see Bruce play at such a beautiful place, but I was looking at some of the pics that fans took of a past show and it looks like a bore fest as everybody is sitting down.
So I don’t think it would be worth sitting in a car 18 hour roundtrip to sit around while Bruce and the Makers are bustin stanky grooves to a lazy crowd.
I know there are probably a few spots on the side or back with some lone dancers but really sit down shows are drainers and usually the musicians lose enthusiasm with a stiff crowd.
Man, I would so bad love to go but it just ain’t my style or worth the money to be sitting around.
I hope everyone that is lucky enough to go has a blast at this beautiful venue.

It actually wasn’t for a wedding but for a great “celebrity roast.” Have a DVD of the roast which includes an audio version of this song. Really very funny if you know Larussa and his relationship with Hornsby and others.

The reason I know the ‘LaRussa Hooray for Tony wedding story’ is because Bruce told the story at a solo show at Notre Dame I seen him at 9/16/05 just before he played Hooray for Tom. Maybe the audio version of the song on the roast dvd was from the wedding unless the dvd shows BH sining it at the roast, but yeah Bruce told us that he sang it at Tony’s wedding.
Sounds like a cool dvd though.

I met LaRussa two years ago and he turned me down for an autograph saying that ‘he’s been burned too many times’ probably meaning that he signed for someone and they sold it afterwards. I even mentioned Bruce Hornsby and TL acted like he didn’t know him. I know TL knows BH but who knows maybe he was having a bad day.

    “Hooray For Tony”?

Sorry to be pedantic, but did BH change the lyrics to “Hooray For Tom,” or is it a new tune?

Or did someone make a mistake? :D

    Yes, it could’ve been me,

    T

He sang a version for his friend Tony LaRussa at his wedding a few years back and changed the song to Hooray for Tony so someone in the crowd probably wanted to hear TL’s wedding version.

Also, has these past few shows been sit-downs or are people rockin’ out. Just curious 8-)

Cool find if that is him, because of such a short of stint he had with that band, it would be surprising.

Man, I really hope he makes the next night 10/30/09 from Detroit available as it was definetly a better show. One of my favorite setlists ever…I got 7/7 requests that night plus the band was on fire.

Its great he’s busting out new live stuff but I really wish he would just put up the whole 2009 tour up for purchase as I would rather pay for the show I actually want rather than be given a few select free shows…that I am very grateful for don’t get me wrong…I just like having shows with a lot of my favorites in the setlist so I don’t have to change discs or skip songs I don’t feel like hearing.

I have been jonesin’ to hear Detroit again so my fingers are crossed that he makes that show available….I actually wrote to him shortly after the show was played and requested it for purchase seeing that the show took place in a casino that didn’t allow taping so hopefully he would bust it out someday.

Supposedly Bruce is making more 09 shows available this month.
I hope they don’t have the amount of chatter this free download has. You can hear people talking and laughing throughout the show which is somewhat distracting and annoying atleast to my ears but I’m spoiled when it comes to sound quality recordings. Maybe that is why this sbd was free who knows.
I do know if I paid for a soundboard and it had this much crowd noise, I would be pretty pissed so thankfully this one was free.
I also know that a lot of the livedownload shows and munckmusic shows are matrix recordings but I’m sure they can lighten the crowd chatter a little bit. Maybe if they took those chairs away the folks at the Biltmo they would be dancing instead of sitting around gabbing. Man I hate seated shows 😆

    Vic-

Bruce was just talking a little about the movie and how Robin Williams character is a big Hornsby fan and has a son who hates everything and everyone(typical dumb teenie-bopper). So RW’s character pops in a BH cd and his son asks ‘who’s this?’ and RW says ‘its Bruce Hornsby’ and RW’s son replies that ‘well Bruce Hornsby’s a fag’. So Bruce explains how RW’s son likes heavy metal so RW says that ‘heavy metal is the faggiest music of them all’ and the crowd busts up laughing.
You had to be there to really enjoy hearing Bruce say ‘Bruce Hornsby’s a fag’.

Anyways it was easily my favorite BH show seeing that he played everything I wanted to hear.

The stage was a little too high though as it was as tall as I am and I’m 5’10”.

When ever I get a chance to clean up my what I got on recording I’ll probably send it to Si. Even thought its only about 5 and a half songs. I wish I would have tried recording again from a different spot but it was too fun up in front of Bruce hearing all my favorite songs.

Maybe we should all write/email/tell in person/or whatever and tell Bruce that he should make every show available on sbd for download. Alot of money would be made and alot of fans would be happy.
Alot of bands these days record every show and make them available for download on soundboard. Bruce should jump on board and do the same. Audience recordings hardly come out good enough as BH’s vocals always come out too distant IMHO. Hopefully alot of shows from this tour will come out on sbd. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
