ParticipantOMG, pay no attention to my previous jabber over your setlist. In a month they have gone from great to ? and opened Sunday at Funfest w/100% beefier Place Under the Sun and Resting Place. Catalog no problem!

ParticipantWhere No One’s Mad w/Sonny; Mighty Rainbow is the bluegrass Leon Russell version of RC (not that there’s an official entity!) INCREDIBLE Line In The Dust must go on Child Of The Noisemakers.

ParticipantDamn, they must not have cancelled music appreciation at your school. I still ignore all the neo-classicism when I think of all the other things that he could be doing. I also haven’t a clue after listening to what little Keith Jarrett I could sample on amazon, as to what is the Sun Bear theme I’ve seen on other setlists. I will spare you the splinters under your fingernails, but when I hear the lyrics for “Down With That” I have to give a little credit. Of course Sunflower Cat just taunts me that I’ll not be hearing “I Know You Rider”, also requested earlier that week with “Across The River” by someone I met (and I did the same once) . My streak was gone in Northfield, but after doubling my request (with a found-on the sidewalk bit of “Tide to go”) for “Place Under The Sun” They actually learned it anew for the River City show (and surprised me with a very album-like “the Changes” in Columbia as well). I was humbled by the effort, but have to admit PUtS wasn’t as hot as the recordings I have. I guess it’s more than ever like a dog chasing the mail truck…I’m not sure what I’ll do if I catch it but I keep running. Now if we ever hear China Doll with something by the Rhythm Aces my plan is working!

ParticipantI’m checking out the Palladium and it looks like a neoclassical Taj Mahal or basketball arena from the outside. I hope you’ll be pleased with my pre-selection of requests that may roll over to the Rocksino. It looks like a lot of diverse set lists so far.

ParticipantStiil here, only watching FB to see where people might be. I’d add the 7/29/02 Wolftrap (making a very cool one note intro theme) and the 11/22/04 Eugene (also showing my Harbor Lights faves). 7/21/02 Kalamazoo and 12/6/04 Madison both open up with Place Under the Sun (So much livelier than the studio version, but you need a prompter to recall all the lyrics). I edited my munckmusic library so I can’t rank all the shows (but I’ll always know “pantsy faints as fair” from SLC among Bruce’s many lyrical slips in Dead covers), I don’t know if Bruce will show up at the Pre-Jam, but we’re almost to Warren Haynes Xmas charity event again, and it will be streamed live 12-11-15 on WNCW.org from the Orange Peel in Asheville without you standing in a crowd of 2,000 packed on the floor. Rebroadcast on New Years Eve in case you nod off before the end (I generally sleep listen since It probably goes well past 1AM and I’m not clever enough to have a recording solution) Oh, I see Si has a link on the homepage (darn you little netbook monitor, how does anyone survive on a smartphone) …but I expected the show started at 8-9PM, and the Peel doesn’t even list the show on the calendar since tickets are distributed to the most generous donors to WNCW (and perhaps Habitat)

And all those requests you’re going to ask for in Wilmington would be awesome. I got the sense Bruce really wanted to play Line In The Dust. Wouldn’t surprise me if they’re ready to do that one now.
Florence was a modern indoor PAC with a big cool lobby with modern furniture, and before the soundcheck they had the board playing through speakers out there! Box Office closed about the end of the soundcheck, but lobby stayed open (most places wouldn’t!). Someone turned off the great lobby speakers so I had to settle for very meager db through closed doors and masonry. When you’ve heard Hot House and Pastures Of Plenty live, your brain responds very well to a whisper of beauty. So I, alone caught a great 45 minute set. Peter Banta walked by and we chatted about Bruce’s change in focus that made my jazzier selections useless…but mainly, in Wilmington, because of weather disruptions leading to special guests, etc. Read my setlist story. In Wilmington, a very short outdoor check replayed a bit of Pastures/Crown of Jewels/Mighty Rainbow (the new un-cadillac bluegrass jam with Leon Russell persona by Bruce.) Then Bruce asked ‘did you guys see the big (Florence) request last night… ” (that had the soundcheck penned in beside my previously created request for PoP) “it’s like some guy was at the soundcheck…”. Hmmm So my request that I gave Chuck before the Wilmington show while the weather was dripping just happened to have two “L” songs that I forgot were part of a MN Zoo soundcheck that only I hung out for (I posted this story somewhere), so I hope I didn’t piss off Bruce by penning in that info as well! So, Biltmore line starts at 4:15 and Blues Traveler does a great 20-30 minutes soundcheck (close to actual concert set length which was shortened by a second night of weather evacuation, and displaced GA seatholders. Bruce ignored the no standing zone in effect for Blues Traveler and invited a party down front which was attended by hundreds. A nice couple validated my eviction of my aisle seat poacher after my tour of the Biltmore basement, and I didn’t mind the aisle filling up after I seated my tall self, Bruce lightened the animosity for some by breaking the rules!) No Noisemakers check, Chuck Keith sets it up from experience. It’s like a box of chocolates.

ParticipantAh, so that was a prequel to Pastures in Florence, SC (surprisingly sold out in a nice modern PAC). It was one of my requests assembled before I heard (barely) a short version in the soundcheck after almost half an hour of Hot House! I know someone has the Richmond 8/18/15 list which included Resting Place; Pete & Manny; End of the Innocence; Gonna Be Some Changes Made; Funhouse; three visits by Bobby Hornsby including Jack Straw…encore Cruise Control.

Denotes Dulcimer^Interesting place to see a Noisemakers show; not exactly where I’d expect to see one, but hey, I’ll take. The crowd actually wasn’t too bad, there seemed to be a good chunk of knowledgable fans, though of course there were probably about 50 senior citizens who walked out halfway through which was hilarious.
I have to say set-list wise, this was definitely one of the better ones I’ve seen live. My jaw dropped when Bruce started playing Pastures of Plenty (JV’s jaw dropped as well! haha). I hit on both of my requests right off the bat in Great Divide and Red Plains which was awesome.
Line In the Dust was pretty cool. I was almost going to request it, but someone from the audience yelled it out. Bruce and JV (it seemed) wanted to play it really badly but the new guys didn’t know it. So Bruce played most of it solo, and then the rest of the band kind of joined in playing for a bit and then it finished solo. My guess is this will be played with the band at least once before the tour is over as it seemed like Bruce really wanted to play it.
Halcyon Days was similar to Line in the Dust as it was requested, started out solo and then the band gradually came in.
Big Rumble was a great encore and Ross did a solid job on backup vocals (as he did all night on Red Plains, Dreaded Spoon, etc).
Overall it was a great show and can’t wait for the next one I’ll be able to see. Nothing like a Noisemakers show. Always an unbelievable experience.

ParticipantThanks, I’m catching the Chicago shows from my local theater and appreciated Bruce singing a great Fire On The Mountain last night after Trey Anastasio’s off key vocals. After three shows, I’ll say Trey got progressively better, and unfortunately Bruce’s voice is short on the warmth that “Built To Last” deserved (and I just listened to the album version before the show!). Now I can read what all the deadheads think; August seems a long time away.

Participant“The Biltmore show MAY be good, but you have to stand in a hot line before they open the gates and with Blues Traveler as well, the time and energy consumed kind of spoil it for me. I’m going to enjoy the show in Florence, not knowing how or why they got booked there, and then I’ll test my fate with the weather in Wilmington at a much more laid back venue.” Turns out I had the time and energy (after six hours sleep and six hours drive) and fate crashed the weather at Wilmington and Asheville, but I loved it. That line turned out not to be hot, but was begun by first-timers at 4:15 while the meet-up was just getting started miles away!

ParticipantI’ll be back, although I should have waited to buy a ticket from the venue since Crowdsurge didn’t offer will call and charged $3.75 for USPS As much as I hate GA tickets, I’ve been here twice and stood less than 30 minutes before the gates open to get a great seat.

ParticipantWakey, wakey. All of you not in Forgone Canada and West should note August 16/18/20 dates in AC (NJ), Richmond (VA) and Florence (SC) have popped up. I didn’t notice these with the email blast about cancellations.

ParticipantFacebook post by Bruce for presale Wednesday March 4 at 10AM for Matoaka Lake Amphitheatre (seats and fresh air!) in Williamsburg (William & Mary) (w James Justin + Co? I saw on Google earlier) on May 21. Also the Tide page claims you have to sign up to another site for their pre-sale in case Crowdsurge doesn’t get it.

I know Bruce mentioned festivals, which are my least favorite thing (unless Sam Bush is your groove and I’d say go to ROMP) . I thought the mail-order 50th reunion was a nice idea until I considered the masses of deadheads who will miss out on such a short run. Now WHO will cut my grass while I’m in Saskatchewan? I’m afraid I can’t get a direct train from here!

ParticipantHow did you like Chevy Chase’s Greendale anthem (The Way It Is)? Would you let me hire a horn player to join the Noisemakers at the Brevard Music Center Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium?

ParticipantI’ll just give you my bastardized setlist from Victoria Theatre Dayton,OH on 10-18-14 since it was the next show…I had been to Kent before and this was a nice looking stage although downtown Dayton is pretty sparse except for some other performing venues nearby. Also met my third? ex-Williamsburger at a show, who shared pictures of the Hornsby family/band.

As usual, I don’t note the classical and technical bits you might assume.
Bruce said he used to listen to A,M and J on 45 repeatedly when he was 12 years old, but had never performed it- (but he has said a few things in memory fog before). He did manage to get Lady w/a Fan in proper order but maybe short a line or two. Also he narrated himself forgetting the Invisible line that once was ‘nothing but sucking”, maybe since there has been a more politically correct rewrite I heard on Youtube.HDbahn
ParticipantGlad you found a silver lining to Chautauqua. I knew the neighbors (hey my spellcheck thinks it’s “nieghbors”) could hear the show but didn’t realize they got seats, too. I had to settle for Pat’s snow date in Roanoke without Bruce, but I had planned that before the Noisemakers tour. I still don’t know what the “jug-bots” were doing at the back of the Unity Group. Couldn’t hear anything but the other percussion-bots. I’m sure I’m boring everyone since there was not one geek who cared that Bruce switched pianos this year. Well, I get a solo show at SC prices where the CD is worth the price of gas.

ParticipantNo, I used a public computer with scum on it, sorry.

ParticipantCouldn’t get the Board just this past week, Si. I was worried I sent you something from a motel computer with pop-ups, but after a 20 minute session tapping on a 5″ Android only to hit the “disappear” button by mistake, I was determined to send a setlist! Best of luck with healthcare.

ParticipantYup, accidentally posted setlists twice, almost no repeats except Mandolin Rain and PDTown. Cool new songs on dulcimer and the whole band now plays behind it. Great guests – Sonny’s kids in P’tree.

ParticipantI had three or four good hellos with Doug, I think the first was handing him a laminated collage/request at the MN Zoo. Had a few words with Bobby a couple of times. Met Bruce backstage at Ridgefield CT courtesy of Lizzie. Just missed him walking away from the B-ball courts at Hampden-Sydney (avoiding me Bruce?) The (old) band and crew all know my face, so well that JT even mugged for a picture from a couple hundred feet away in Denver. I have greeted/annoyed Chuck Keith, Soggy Bottom Sanchez and Wayne Pooley at venues far and wide, so I only regret not having my car autographed!
HDbahn
ParticipantFrom 20 seconds of youtube, I’d say I’m more hopefull of the new guitar than the fiddle, but that doesn’t mean I expect to ever hear the solos in Country Doctor or Preacher In The Ring(II) the same again. And I don’t think you can feel End Of The Innocence the same way without Bobby (although if anything it creates more space for JT – I heard Jesse Colin Young in 2012 with keyboards in Jim Rothermel’s horn parts). It will always be what Bruce wants, though, and I’ll give it a listen although many of my favorites have already disappeared. Well, the only window sticker on my car says I Don’t Like Bluegrass (I Love It) – Infamous Stringdusters, but I’ll always know when Bruce was quite the sage, it was The Changes that got me hooked.

ParticipantYo Chief, Good to hear some feedback on Pisgah Brewing. I know some good bands have played there, but I can’t bring myself to fork over VIP money without a weather report or covered seats! Also you might tell folks there’s almost nowhere to stay in Black Mountain if they are a designated drinker. I hope standing room is not a sell out if I decide to go at the last minute, but I tested my luck last year in the trans-Coloradan disaster dodge. I’m sure it will be historic wherever the smoke follows you.
HDbahn
ParticipantSorry, David, but I decided row A was fine for $25 less if only slightly removed from the culinary/bar noise of strangers Oh, it’s a byo venue, well that’s nice, but I travel light…probably will have late lunch at a fast food joint if I don’t find out what’s good in Peachtree City.
