Why when people go to a BH show these are the only two songs they videotape:brickwall:…most likely cuz they’re just casuals and not diehards fo’ sho’. Don’t get me wrong I’m grateful people take the time to film and share but come on don’t these guys like the other songs as well or do they not know them.
Double WOW for Line in the Dust…I would love to see/hear that live. I’m gonna request it Sunday!
ALSO I’m GLAD he’s finally been playing Loser as its one of my favorite Dead tunes and I always loved Bruce’s version.
I’ve been requesting Loser for a decade now…only got to see one live back in 99.
So I’ll definitely be requesting both those tunes Sunday…fingers crossed:)Here’s to hoping Bruce played Line in the Dust tonight! Looking forward to seeing the setlist and your thoughts from the show!

ParticipantI’d also love if you can send me the recording. I don’t care how the quality is, even hearing a spotty recording would be well worth it!

ParticipantFire on the Cross, yes yes yes! I’ve been wanting to hear a modern version of it for years! We’re on the same page with that. Glad to hear the new guys are fitting in. I’ve haven’t been to a show with the new arrangement yet, but so far based off seeing the set-lists, I’d say my only complaint would bee too much dulcimer, though I know Bruce is really moving in that direction. I love hearing the band, and I know the dulcimer takes away from that a little. I’m good with 2 dulcimer tunes a show. Other than that, I think these set-lists seem to be pretty good.

ParticipantThanks for posting the set-list, and I’d love to hear a show recording.

ParticipantNoisemakers will always sound right in my opinion Something special about that name.

ParticipantThanks so much for posting! Pleasantly surprised to see these two set-lists. Expected them to be much more straight forward. Would love to hear the audio and or video of these shows. As of now, Youtube only has Way It Is and End of the Innocence up from the Peachtree show.
And Wow! Line in the Dust. Just awesome. I think Bruce has played that once if at all since it being on Bride of the Noisemakers. It’s a great song and I’m excited to see that Bruce played this. I’d especially love to hear this particular version to hear how Ross and Gibb fit into it.

ParticipantI hear you A.J.
At the end of the day this is a business, and I’ll never fault Bruce for changing up his style to remain in the business. There’s a huge market for Bluegrass and Folk, and maybe Bruce feels it’s in his best interest to penetrate that market. If anything I’m really bitter towards the millions of people who’s musical tastes span the likes of Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and other terrible performers, while musical geniuses like Bruce and each member of the Noisemakers are unable to play venues like Town Hall in NYC anymore. It’s just disgraceful.
That being said, from a personal preference, I’m 100% in agreement with you. Again this is all personal preference. But Bruce playing Jacob’s Ladder, Big Stick, etc was my fix for Bluegrass. I didn’t need anymore. However, after more recently getting into Hornsby/Skaggs and seeing them live in concert, I’m absolutely in love with what they play. I’d like to branch out to other Bluegrass outside of Hornsby/Skaggs, but haven’t done so yet. I love some of the Dulcimer tunes, Valley Road, Good Life, and now Every Little Kiss. I love Bruce’s solo shows, and hearing rarities such as Soon Enough, Sad Moon, etc.
However…
All that being said, as a fan, and with my personal preference in music, I’ve never wanted to see any other Bruce ventures compromise The Noisemakers. They are one of the things in life I view in the highest regard. It might sound crazy, but it’s true. The Noisemakers – everything that’s been played by that band is absolute genius and perfection to me. And hearing Bruce make it pretty clear that he’s changing directions is very disappointing.
Again, while I think a significant part of Bruce moving away from the Jazz and Jam Band tunes and more towards folk/bluegrass has to do with changes in his personal tastes as he’s stated, a large part of me believes he’s finally succumbed to the demand of the common fan – something it seems like he’s tried so hard and long to prevent from doing. And it’s a damn shame that some of the most stylistically complex and advanced musical progressions played in the most ballsy, unprecedented, and spontaneous fashions has not captured the attention of enough people for Bruce to keep doing it.

ParticipantI wouldn’t say exceptionally slow. Maybe a little though.

He hates that song. “Doesn’t ring true anymore”….or at least it didn’t a few years ago to him…He likes it on dulcimer. I think it’s in a lower key, and the dulcimer makes the song seem fresher to him.
Last summer at the Wolf Trap, Bruce was sitting down to play the dulcimer and a bunch of people in the crowd were screaming for Every Little Kiss. He went on to say how he doesn’t play that anymore, but then started strumming it and singing, and the band joined in and played probably about 4 minutes of it. When it was done, Bruce laughed and said, I like that, it’s back on the list!
My guess is because he kind of reinvented the song on dulcimer, he’s willing to overlook his distaste for the lyrics.

ParticipantSome additional video has surfaced:
Every Little Kiss. Just tremendous. My favorite live version is from Bride of the Noisemakers, but this version is awesome.

Jacobs. Seems pretty much the same, but with no sax, and some extra direction from Bruce, as expected.

ParticipantI’ve only met Doug. After a show in Los Angeles in 2011, Doug came into the standing room about 15 minutes after the show. I went up to him and said hi. Coincidentally, my drum teacher from when I was younger knows Doug. So we spoke about that and took a picture. Still waiting to meet Bruce and the Noisemakers!

Either, or. Just any show.

ParticipantCongrats Si!
I don’t know if I’m going to be making it to a show this summer, which is a bummer. I’d love to take a road trip to a show, I just don’t if I’ll be able to.

ParticipantIf you were only able to attend one more Noisemakers show in your life, it could be at any venue, and you could pick the set-list in its entirety, where would the show be and what would the setlist be?

ParticipantWhat garbage. Such a shame. I’ll hold out hope before I completely trash this, and I’m sure there are more reasons for this than just the sound of Bruce’s music. I’m sure Bruce is also trying to cater to a specific demographic – we can see this with the locations of the Noisemakers tour and that his following seems to have widdled away to predominately blue grass/folk fans who live in the south. And I understand that at the end of the day, this is a business. But what Bruce had going from Here Comes the Noisemakers up until this point was special, and it’s all my personal bias, but I have no idea why you’d change that. I couldn’t be more disappointed.
I get annoyed thinking about how if Bruce had a slightly bigger following, this probably wouldn’t have happened. And I don’t understand how there’s been for the most part an inverse correlation between Bruce’s following and his live shows getting better and better (At least in my opinion). I guess a lot of that has to do with time, but this is a whole other discussion.
The next 20 live recordings you listen to, I bet somewhere between 10-14 will no longer be possible to play, or at least in it’s current form without Bobby Read. Great Divide, Red Plains, White Wheeled Limousine, Candy Mountain Run, and the list goes on, and on, and on. Spirit Trail, what I thought was Bruce’s favorite album – a lot of that is unplayable now without a sax. Same goes for Hot House. And without and ewi, a lot of Big Swing Face isn’t possible.
Now I’m sure Bruce will find ways to play songs in new ways, obviously that’s why he’s making this change. But I go see Bruce and Skaggs to get my blue grass/folk fix. Nothing should be interfering with the Noisemakers, yet this has.
Also I don’t understand this from the perspective of the rest of the band, specifically Sonny and JV. I consider the trio of Bruce, Sonny, and JV to be the best rhythm section in the world today, without exaggeration. Turning this band into a folk band is going to take away the Noisemkaers biggest strength – their ability to drive a song while maintaing incredibly advanced and spontaneous rhythms and melodies. A mix that’s very rare to see in a live show, and almost unheard of at the level in which they do it.
Well I’ve been holding this post in for a while, and sorry that I’m using this board to vent! I’m sure I’m not the only one with this opinion though.

I’ll get thinking on the others – the first one is up!
Hearing this Night On The Town from 1996 makes me question why Bruce doesn’t play is more today. Such an awesome groove! Thanks so much for getting that up.

1) If you somehow have a full band version of Night On The Town from any show starting from 1998 to present day. Pretty much looking to hear a non Range version of the song. Ideally Noisemakers, but I’m sure that’s near impossible as I think they’ve only played it a few times.
2) Any semi-obscure to obscure song from the 1998-2000ish period with the full band. Basically I’m very interested to hear more of the sound/style that’s on “Here Come The Noisemakers”, but obviously not a song that’s already on that album. I guess any song that’s not on that album will be fine, but the more rare the better
3) A live recording of King Harvest. I see 7 shows in 2006 where they played King Harvest. For each one they went from Sunflower Cat > King Harvest. I’d be very interested to hear that. If you could dig that up it would be awesome!Anything would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
EDIT: Think I found something! Night On The Town played at the Gathering of the Vibes in 2001. However, the download doesn’t seem to be starting for me. Any chance you can download it Si?
