Great interview, but definitely a bit disappointing to hear about the lack of interest in the live releases. I’d be like a kid in a candy store if Bruce released all of his live stuff.

Also, when Bruce referenced Lost Soul with his son towards the end, what’s the Sony released recording he was talking about?

I’ll have to watch the dvd again to see if Bruce was sporting the infamous black button-up at this show.

Bruce was wearing a long sleeve black t-shirt at the Jazz Festival last week so he changed it up on us ;)

    DVD?

    Hey MVF :?

I wasn’t doubting your Hornsby resume and wasn’t aiming my ‘range’ comment at you or anybody that frequents this site. I am pretty sure anybody that took the time to join this site and comments on this board are real fans. My comment was aimed at the people that leave the ‘one star’ reviews on:
    http://www.ticketmaster.com/Bruce-Horns … RRWidgetID
    http://www.livenation.com/Bruce-Hornsby … RRWidgetID
Go to these sites and list the reviews by lowest to highest.
You’ll not only get a cheap laugh and pissed off at the same time but you will also understand ‘who’ my comment was aimed at.

I am happy for you though MVF that you didn’t give up on Bruce throughout his David Bowiesque music career ;)

    This grinds my gears:

    Quote:
I loved the interaction Bruce had with the audience. I had never heard his sense of humor before and that was fun. Clearly, he is an awesome talent and when he played the long piano runs, it was great. I was disappointed with his hit songs because he played them much differently than the records. From a fan’s standpoint, I’d rather hear an extended version that is close to the recording with some background or complimentary music. The lesser known songs he sang gave us a chance to hear his unique music styles. It could be that I should have known what to expect from the title, (An Evening with Bruce Hornsby) but I was expecting a band to accompany him. That would have been a much better experience for me.

I was at this show. It was actually my first Bruce solo piano show. I was absolutely blown away. I’m the type of music fan who tends to grow more of an appreciation for the members of the band, than the front man himself. Obviously I adore Bruce, but every single member of the Noisemakers is an incredible musician. I would take a Noisemakers show over a solo show any day, but that solo show was out of this world. To read a comment like the one above where A) this person is the antithesis of what Bruce wants in a fan and B) too stupid to realize that it said “SOLO SHOW” just about every place you could have purchased a ticket, really gets at me!

…that is one of my favorite versions of Harbor Lights…such a great jam!
I love that whole show actually…the Stander on the Mountain from that set is awesome too.

Did Si put up that whole show? How did you get all of it?

    Unfortunately missed the beginning:

Sunflower Cat > A lot to Laugh, Train to Cry
    Straight No Chaser > Rainbow’s Cadillac > Who Know’s > Rainbow’s Reprise
    The Dirty Ground

But I’m hoping they replay it on the channel at some point. Otherwise, it was a joy to watch.

Well, I guess you told me! 😆 Good that he’ll trot it out every once in while, it’s too good not to be.

Do you happen to have the setlist? It’s not listed here, unless I’m mistaken.

The Goon started a thread a while back about tunes we’d most like to hear that we haven’t; “Swing Street” is definitely one of my top five…

    — Swing
    — Hot House Ball
    — Stander
    — The Changes
    — Mirror (electric, not hillbilly…sorry :P )

    T

Don’t have the set-list, sorry. I just happen to have a recording of it (I think someone here got it to me per my request for a live recording of Swing Street).

Come and see the band play “Swing Street”? I’ve seen BH and the NMs 5 times and asked for it 3 times, still haven’t heard it. In fact, from browsing the setlists here I think the last time they played it might’ve been ’02, or possibly ’04. Which leads us to…

-Bruce acknowledged an audience member’s request for “Swing Street” at the Bend show and responded by saying “Come see the band play that. I can’t do that right now, because I would just suck at it. That’s a great, obscure request though, and we don’t do that song often enough”

Awesome! I dropped a request on stage for Swing Street both this past year at the Nokia Theater in LA and on this solo tour in Malibu, but to no avail. I’d LOVE to see that played live.

Great observations. Will the release be a Live Noise type of deal for the solo show, or are we talking more like a Bride of the Noisemakers Official album of the solo tour?

The bit up top about “this site is closing soon” has been up for at least 6 months, so who knows… :?: 🙄

In mid-February I had to snag some of the same ones I dl’d a couple of years ago due to a memory zap and all of my hardcops being scratched to hell. That sucked, BTW 👿 I hope that BH gets a good cut and not just the Munck dipshits — let’s just say that their “customer service” is sporadic, at best. 😆 And watch out for the dreaded “links that don’t work.” 😡

But they do have some good shows…3 of which you can get at the new live site — Boston, Chicago, and NC (all ’04 I believe).

Thank you! I feel like I just hit the mother load. Are all of these shows soundboard quality, or were they recorded from people in the crowd?

I haven’t been too crazy about the Dagle comps or the shorter shows from last summer; the shows from ’09 were rifled through to collect material for “Bride,” so I didn’t get any of those.

BUT (and a big “but” indeed), I’ve got most of the Muncks, with my favorites being:

    — Aladdin ’04
    — O Zoo ’05
    — Anaheim ’05
    — Woodinville ’06

And SLC ’05 comes close. As does the Bend solo show. Not to mention that ’07 freebie, which I managed to snag apparently, literally, no joke, MINUTES before it got yanked. Whew! 😆

Ha! All West Coast shows (exception: freebie). A coincidence, I’m sure. :?: 🙄 ;)

I’m the exact same way, but pretend someone says the only way you can continue listening to Bruce is if you ditch one song. Which song would that be?

Every Little Kiss and Valley Road are listed as “(Bonus Tracks)”. I don’t remember how I got them, it must of been through Amazon at a later time, even though I bought the hard copy of the CD.

T, you seem really offended by this, and I’m not sure why. We get it, it’s pricey, it’s unlike Bruce, etc. So you know what, go on about it like anything in life you don’t have an interest in buying. Personally, the only reason I think it’s pricey is because I’d be paying for a soundcheck that doesn’t include the whole band.

What’s you favorite transition from one song into another? I get chills every time I hear Standing On the Moon > Halcyon Days. It flows so well, and the Noisemakers play Halcyon days so well.

Did you mean to say they play SOTM so well as Halcyon Days is their song so hopefully they do play that well ;)

This is a good question but man I can think of so many great transitions that are mostly one offers such as the time they did Boo Radley > Harbor Lights, but in a more traditional sense I always enjoy Pete & Manny > Barcelona Mona.
I also like Mandolin Rain > SOTM…especially the one they did earlier this year in Cleveland when they kept bouncing from MR>SOTM>MR>SOTM>MR.
About ten years back Bruce used to do Talk of the Town > The Way It Is, but arranging TWII to a more slowed down jazzier beat. I have a few recordings of them doing that from mostly 00-02 era.

I meant the live version of Halcyon Days they play so well, as it’s different than the original recording. But a band can play their own song really well, can’t they? ;)

Awesome! How did you get to meet Bruce before the show and go on the tour bus? I’ jealous that he played Longest Night for you, I’d love to hear that live and in person. And very interesting about Bruce not liking to play Every Little Kiss. I requested that at the last show I was at, and he didn’t play it. Now I know why lol. Any recordings from the show? Also, what songs had a different feel with Moyes on drums?
