ParticipantHow about:
It Is IV The Way
A take off on the Way It Is (with the IV worked right into the middle).jims
ParticipantNot everyone is watching basketball, but work has been busy lately, then there are the usual distractions such as my wife and daughter. Sometimes other things get totally squeezed out! So even if we aren’t posting, that doesn’t mean we aren’t reading.

ParticipantLooking at the list above, I see that Copenhagen 9/22/04 is on the list. You could go to brucehornsbylive.com and get the whole show for 14.95 (or 16.95 for the FLACs) and have the tune you want for the wedding and the rest of the show too! Hope this helps you out.

ParticipantGood Morning David,
Was reading the thread, so I had to check it out Candy Mountain Run, July 20. 2006 (venue is somewhere in California). Sounding good so far….

ParticipantI will have to say that the show had a quieter feel than many of the previous ones that I have seen. There definitely seemed to be enough “great piano work” to satisfy me and some of the notable change-ups such as the ragtime Rainbow’s Cadillac was a cool change that I thought was really good, but the other person may not have liked, who knows? It’s all personal preference and even Bruce can’t satisfy all of the people all of the time. The WWL is definitely a band song and perhaps a bit much to take on with the solo piano, but again, I was all to happy to see him give it a shot.

ParticipantThe first new song was a bit dark, sounded like it was about a gangster (although I will say that I am not too big into lyrics so I am probably way off there) and as Bruce freely admitted, had some dissonant elements to it. It was still a good tune in my book, but it will not go down among my favorites based on the first listen anyway. All that said, I will have to say that I am certainly not one to show up to hear the hits (an example is that one of my favorites is “This Too Shall Pass”). The new musical song was a sad story about how someone went through life and let things continually fall apart on him (i.e. Soon enough his wife would no longer be there). I do not remember the specific lyrics although they were clearly sung and the sound was really good where I was sitting so I could clearly hear them which is not always the case. Unfortunately it has been three busy days since the show and memory fades fast… The tune definitely fit into the Broadway show tune catagory (as intended, of course) and had that feel to it. Of course it will be interesting to see how these new tunes sound on the album versus the solo piano version which always has its own feel. Hope this helps somewhat. Enjoy any upcoming shows you may be able to attend.

ParticipantI’m listening to the show right now, quite fabulous. Thanks for sharing.
By the way, the original link for “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” still works, that one was not marked as private at this point. I never even thought of checking that one after I found out that “Southbound” was private.

ParticipantHI Si,
I would love to hear the rain songs that Bruce and the band did during the July 7, 2002 show in Seattle. Ironically enough it rained for 12 hours that entire summer and it was right during the show! Thanks,
Jim S.

ParticipantAt least this doesn’t cut off us dinosaurs that don’t have a cell phone let alone one that texts!

ParticipantJust a question, I clicked on the link in the first post above and after signing up for a YouTube account, they then said that the video was private. Do I have to join a special group to see it or was it removed sometime after the initial post? I should have clicked the link when I first saw it. Perhaps its a case of “if you snooze you lose”. If not, let me know.

ParticipantI think that over the years I have purchased all of the BH shows (and a few others) from that site and I have never had any problems downloading them. Of course I haven’t checked the previews in many years now, so I wouldn’t know about that. The most recent purchase was the 2008 Buffalo show. Again no problems for me and I have always gotten the FLACs.

ParticipantGood Morning Si,
The Dose Week sounds like it will be a good one (and much more sane than a continuous 24 hour day). You requested possible shows for that week and I would like to see the Woodinville show, August 24, 1998. I know there is a good recording out there, because I was sitting next to the guy who taped it, but I never got a hold of him to get a copy! The new site is really looking good and coming together with all the features. Thanks again for all that you do.

ParticipantThe latest show is quite a good one, I really liked the version of This Too Shall Pass and the way he segued it into The Way It Is. I’m sure those discs will get a workout.
Definity sounded like a fun show to be at. Sort of like the Woodinville 06 for me.jims
ParticipantWish I knew. You’ll have to let us all know if you check it out!
jims
ParticipantSince you asked, I see that you have it on your list, my absolute favorite is the Woodinville ’06. Perhaps the fact that I was at the show helped, but I don’t think so. I know I would have liked it anyway.
The next in line is Salt Lake City ’02. The sequence with Wharf Rat>Look Out Any Window, Across the river and Lady with a Fan is just outstanding.
After that, the fall 2004 shows all have things that I like about them, but my favorate of that group is the Portsmouth VA show. I just love the jam on Talk of the Town from that one.
I am one of those crazies who has every single one of those recordings they have put out. I guess if I have to have a vice…Bruce is a good one.Jim S.

ParticipantWell, since you asked, I hadn’t heard that one yet, but went right to it to check it out. I think you’ll like it. A nice 2 and a half minute rip to start things off before getting to the main tune. From there it takes on the “usual” (I use that word cautiously when talking about live Bruce cuts) flow. The whole show is definitely a good one so far, but I haven’t heard it all yet. I let work get in the way both on Friday and this past weekend (lots of cleaning around the house to get done). Hope you don’t have to wait too long for those CDs.

ParticipantI’m on it now. Thanks for the post!

ParticipantLooking forward to that!

ParticipantHi Si,
Glad to be of assistance. I did think it was rather odd that Bruce came to the Northwest for three show in just two days, but I for one was most glad that he did.

ParticipantGood Evening,
I have been informed of a correction to my set list, the second song of the first show was “I Truly Understand” and it is not new at all, but an old bluegrass standard.

ParticipantHi Trey,
Yep, two shows in one night, definely made it worth the 240 km round trip!

ParticipantGood Evening,
It has been a busy couple of days since the Saturday evening shows. They were both very good as usual. I have not been disappointed yet. First off, the set lists
Show 1
Darlin’ Be Home Soon, Your Heart Shall No Longer Be Mine (I think, I had not heard this one before)>Night On the Town, Sneakin Up On Boo Radley, Mandolin Rain (in minor key), Every Little Kiss, What The Hell Happened To Me, Don Of Dons, Talk Of The Town, Intro>Country Doctor, Do You Love Me Still, Gonna Be Some Changes Made (with a classical piece included), The Way It Is, Dreamland (requested on a pair of women’s underwear) Encore: Look Out Any WindowShow 2
Livin’ The Good Life, Sticks and Stones, In The Low Country, The River Runs Low>(Rag Mama Rag), The End Of The Innocence, Hooray For Tom, Darlin’ Corey, Spider Fingers, The Show Goes On, Here We Are Again (I think, I had not heard this one before), King Of The Hill, The Way It Is (Rapper’s Version) Encore: Standing On The Moon>Halcyon DaysAll in all a fine performance and a good mix of his material. I thought it was interesting when he played the River Runs Low and admitted that he “stole” a piece of that from Levon Helm of the band hence the small burst of Rag Mama Rag at the end of that one. He also mentioned during the second show that you guys all want me to play ballads, well he fixed that with a couple of the up tempo ones such as Spider and King of the Hill. He did mention the passing of his nephew only once during both shows just before launching into an emotion packed Standing on the Moon>Halcyon Days combo. I thought it was a fine tribute and an appropriate way to end the night.

ParticipantJackie,
The answer is true and it fit in the space available. There is a ton of good music out there and I like all types (probably one of the reasons I like Bruce’s music so much is that he plays all types). I see you went with my second choice for the other artist. And thanks, I will enjoy the shows.

ParticipantThat sounds like one to order. I never did get to see Bruce play with the Dead.

Participantmeganm wrote:Actually, I have third row tickets for the Vancouver show the previous night! First time since ’94 that my best friend and I don’t have to travel for hours to see a show….
Should be a very good time…
MeganThe Vancouver show sounded like it should be fun. I did briefly think of checking that one out too, but this will be a one stop (albeit for two shows) for me. Skagit isn’t too far from Vancouver, you could do three shows in two nights!
