ParticipantI’m using IE7 and don’t have any problems. Left-clicking on the link brings up a box asking me “Do you want to open this file or save?” Right-clicking brings up the menu that includes the option to “Save target as…” which also works.
Monica, have you tried saving the file once the song is opened and playing in Media Player? This would be an alternative if either of the above don’t work.

ParticipantI’ve only been to 3 so far. I was hoping to make it 4 this year, but that seems unlikely now.
How I envy all those who have Bruce playing in their “back yard”.
Jonathan
ParticipantI have all the 2002 shows from BruceHornsbyLive.com and can confirm that of the 3 times that The Valley Road is performed, none are like the original album version. Sorry.

ParticipantI finally received my copy of “Camp Meeting” yesterday (in what must be the most over-sized packaging for a CD I’ve ever seen!) and it’s sure been worth the wait. I was really surprised how many of these tunes I recognise from Bruce’s live recordings over the years. Many of these have appeared as intros and fillers between two or more songs and it’s great to hear them in full. This is an audio treat!
Jonathan
ParticipantSadly I don’t think you mean Northampton, UK, or I’d be there too.
Glad you could get across the pond for a show. Enjoy yourself.
Jonathan
ParticipantSi, how did you get your copy so quickly? I pre-ordered from Amazon.com but it was only despatched on Monday. I reckon it will be next week at the earliest before it arrives.
Jonathan
ParticipantHahaha! Loved the one that says Mythbusters want their host back. 😆

ParticipantI’m sorry to put the mockers on your great scheme (no pun intended!), but there is something you haven’t considered. Tell me honestly, out of all the shoes you own – and I appreciate that for some of the women here that could take a long time to think about
– which pair is the most comfortable? Is it the pair of Nike trainers that you bought just a couple of weeks ago? Is it the pair of Hush Puppies with the bouncy souls to reduce heel impact? Or is it the pair of buuny slippers that your lovable old aunt gave you for Christmas? Of course not, it’s the worn out pair of nondescript black shoes that you’ve had for years and years. Ok, they may be tatty and fraying round the edges, but over the years they’ve molded to the exact shape of your feet and now feel like you’re not wearing shoes at all.
If indeed Bruce is wearing the same shoes that he wore in the days of The Range, I for one can’t blame him. I wouldn’t want him playing a show filled with bum notes because his new shoes are rubbing his feet. 😯

ParticipantGreetings Ali,
Welcome to the forums.

Does anyone know why Bruce used to call J.V. this? Indeed, is this nickname still used?
Jonathan
ParticipantIt’s ok, I just found the album listed on another site and it’s a typo on Amazon. The next track on the CD is the BH track, some song called “The Way It Is” which is vaguely familiar.
Jonathan
ParticipantI agree whole-heartedly with all the comments made on here, J.V. is a real gent! You can see from the way he plays (and the huge grin on his face!) that he loves what he does, and he loves the fans to show their appreciation too. I saw him talking to fans at the Biltmore a couple of years ago, laughing and joking with people who’d just gone up to him to say “hello”. He seems to have time for everyone.
I think it’s great how Bruce and J.V. often “compete” against each other on stage, trying to catch one another out. It’s all done in good humour of course. If any of you have listened to the ’05 show in Chattanooga, you can hear Bruce ribbing J.V. as they’re about to play “Nobody There But Me”. It seemed J.V. wasn’t familiar with the bass line.
Si should’ve put up the video of J.V. playing in Belgium with the winner of their “Pop Idol” contest a couple of years ago. That was a hoot.
Stay cool J.V.

Listen to NoiseMakers and think what it would sound like without Bobby.I love his playing on The Red Plains on Noisemakers. I’ve listened to it so many times now that I can sing/hum along to every note of the solo.

ParticipantYou can all play a part in keeping these forums neat and tidy and free of spam. You can use the Report Post function to alert moderators to posts containing spammed advertisements. We can then remove these posts quickly and take action where necessary to stop offenders. The Report Post function can also be used to alert moderators to posts that contain abusive or offensive content, although I doubt this will ever be necessary as you’re all such lovely people.
Might have to keep an eye on that David Day fella though.
Happy posting!

ParticipantFunky new look! Great stuff.
Can’t wait to try out some of the new toys I have as moderator. Anyone want to post some spam?

ParticipantActually, no, I don’t think it did on that occasion. But you never know your luck.

ParticipantCheck this! I got to meet Si and Bruce on the same night. How honoured I was.
Bruce had just finished a solo performance in London (wow, it’s getting on for 3 years ago now!) and after the show I waited for the theatre to clear and went to say hello to Si. He was laughing and making jokes about his cameo appearance on stage to turn the page on Bruce’s music (yes, sometimes he does need a reminder). Si told me that if I waited round for a little while Bruce would probably exit the theatre via the stage and the front door. He wasn’t wrong, and I was lucky enough to be able to greet him and thank him for bringing his wonderful music to England. I even got to shake Bruce’s hand, albeit very gently – at the time his wrists were hurting him, I think due to tendonitis.
That’s how I got to meet Bruce. It didn’t need me to have anything in common with him, other than the one thing that we all have in common – a love of great music. If you can get to a gig, stay around afterwards and try to say hello. Alternatively, if that doesn’t work, do as someone once did at a concert and give him your hotel room number with your request!
Jonathan
PS. Bruce, if you do read Si’s forum, I’m still waiting for you to come back to Manchester. 😉
Jonathan
ParticipantJust out of interest, how much is it costing you to have until 2016?
Jonathan
ParticipantSi, does the software you use not have a reporting function so that members can alert you to spamming posts? I’ve seen it on other forums and it can be quite useful to keep the boards free of junk.
You might also considering taking on a moderator to help keep the place running smoothly; making sure topics are in the correct sub-forum etc.. 😉

ParticipantThanks to getting hooked on the music of Curtis Stigers after seeing him live in Manchester on Tuesday, tonight is the first time I’m listening to Caesar Salad. I’ve listened to tracks 1 to 8 so far and been really impressed, but I’m now listening to track 9 and I’m blown away. Freaking awesome! What a fantastic new direction for a BH cover.
I take my hat off to everyone that’s been involved in this project, you can justifiably be very proud of yourselves. I hope that maybe one day I can be involved myself to pay my own tribute to the master of prestidigitation.
Jonathan
ParticipantAh the wonders of predictive texting; surely Si meant the “contests will be open for an extra day”, did he not?
A real blow that today is the day his ISP is giving him grief.
Hope you’re back with us soon, Si.

ParticipantHow about seeding it on this forum’s torrent page? Dimeadozen only allow registered users to access torrents and they’re not allowing new members.

ParticipantLive vs Studio
No Steve, you’re not alone. I too have amassed a pretty large collection of live Bruce shows and I find that I listen to it far more than any of the studio albums. For example I bought the 2005 Oregon Zoo show from BruceHornsbyLive.com about 6 weeks ago and I’ve listened to it over 20 times! I love the live shows because you get a great vibe when the band are giving it large, and songs are often played differently to the albums or get merged into other songs.
Having said all that though, I love going back and listening to the albums every once in a while. Earlier this week I put “Scenes from the Southside” in my CD player and boy did I enjoy it! After all the bluegrass “Jacob’s Ladder” I’ve been exposed to of late, it’s great to hear the original again. The same goes for “The Show Goes On” and “The Valley Road” – both brilliant songs.
