Here another side of the elephant for the Munhall gig and set list for which I have 22 tunes listed. This was the most tune-dense show I have seen, very little stage banter, just straight-ahead fantastic playing and singing. Besides the pace of this concert, Bruce was in excellent voice. Honestly, I don’t remember him sounding any better that this; his voice was THAT good, that remarkable, and that memorable.

Although eidsonator’ s list was comprehensive, I thought “Circus on the Moon” was played right after “Night on the Town” to segue from solo piano to the band. Before playing “Gonna be Some Changes Made,” Bruce referenced the Eric Nagle/Gavin Murphy version of the song on Caesar Salad. The guys were at the concert and Bruce credited their work. You just gotta’ love The Man who pays attention to all of your hard work, Si and Caesar contributors.

Right after “Down the Road Tonight,” Bruce played a series of Sam Cooke teases.. “Havin’ a Party,” “Sad Mood,” “Bring it on Home” and maybe another, as a lead into “Talk of the Town.”

For you AC concert go-ers, Bruce said that he and the Noisemakers played top 40 all night,; he just shook his head and said that Munhall was not like that judging from the requests and launched into a shout-out request for “Big Stick” on accordion.

“Charlie, Woody and You” led into “Q and A.” that Bruce tagged again during “Spider Fingers” He also did an outstanding -WOW!!-version of “Chick Corea’s “Steps” and tossed this off to everyone in the band for improvs, And then “Song F” into “Here We Are Again.” How does he do this!?! This took my breath away! Bruce does this at least once for me during every show. Classical teases, Gospel, Bluegrass, Jazz, Motown and Rap…you never know how he will mix them. I was so stupefied that I forgot to write down “Here we are Again”… just beautiful!

“Valley Road” was a meld of the Dead version with a tad of Richard Tee, Otis Spann and a little Leon. From there, Bruce went into Ray Charles’ “Lucky Old Sun,” another WOW! for me.

This concert was not promoted well; I saw almost no print, except for concert listings; one or two ads in an alternative paper; heard no radio spots. It was on websites. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Scott Mervis featured Bruce in the Weekend supplement [http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09281/1003733-388.stm%5D Thank God! Maybe that was intentional. These concert go-ers appeared to know about Bruce’s music and were vocal about it. If there were dancers, I did not see them. GG, were you dancing or taping?

The last time Bruce and the Noisemakers were here, in Pittsburgh, City Paper ranked his show 4th or 5th of 10 of the Best Performances of the Year – 2004. This concert was even better… Also, the Steelers, who have seem to have a penchant for blowing every lead in the 4th quarter, won over the Detroit Lions. Perfection! Life is Good here in Six/Sticksburgh.

    Bruuucie Workin’It……………………Ya Dig? Sho’ Nuff

For the rest of us Bruuuce Junkies who can not get to the Tribecca Film Festival or for those of us who have a difficult time just waiting for the new album, the release of ‘The World’s Greatest Dad’, or for the ESPN airing of ‘Kobe Doin’ Work’, here’s a tease, just a taste, some titillating prestidigitation of our Brucie doin’ major [and minor] work…Unmistakably BRH and lots of left-hand independence!

    Victor,Honey,and friends…

Brucie mentioned this film gig [with glee] at his Chatauqua gig this summer past. Here’s another link that explains it, again. If you’re really curious, Sundance also lists the screening dates. It’s not too far away from Colorado Springs, Vic… Don’t know if you’d want to camp there, though.

Do you know what happened to Si Twining? The dude hasn’t updated his site in over three months.

    Bruce’s Reply:
We decided to check with Si and received this answer: Haha! I’d actually given serious thought to closing it [http://www.bruuuce.co.uk] down, just due to a lack of time and funds… but I have a sneaking suspicion that it could be back with a vengeance before the end of the month! I just needed a breather from the internet in general and had to look after my health also. I have kept those posted who have been kind enough to ask. So if you’re looking for an ambiguous answer, I am still alive, and so is Bruuuce.com!

BiBs, Sibs and FoBiG[Fans of Bruce, in General],

Pittsburgh Fan Club [Pissant Chapter] is in a dither working out the details for ‘the long sojourn’ to Hampton. With an upcoming, three- week trip to the Netherlands, Germany and maybe the UK, we may have to pass on the Hampton Fest, the accompanying Love-in, and beer/ale tastings… all sounding too good to pass up… and ‘Third World’ on Saturday for Jah Love…

For the ‘Hornies’ out there, here’s a tag line for your tee-shirts…Me So Hornsby, Baby…

    Have at it, Kids!

    MVF, Honey…

How you be? I am so jonesing for a BH&TNM gig that I’d slit a wrist, sell an eye tooth, think about wholesale-ing a part of a liver…um, NO, not really… but, jonesing nonetheless. Knowing that I have a fullblown addiction, I have pulled out ALL of the Bruce, LIVE.

There are a few memorable shout-outs that our dear Brucie has bestowed upon the faithful BiBs and SiBs,yours [Biltmo’, 2005]being one of the most memorable. Was that thunder in the background of Biltmo’, 2002? Oh, What a night!

On the Red Butte Garden, July, 2002, LIVE,Brucie mentions a contract and asks if lawyers were in the house? Was that contractrequest your permission to play [whatever the Hell he wants] , Alisa? It’s so nice that these are a part of recorded history.

And, *Damn*, those NOISEMAKERS sure sound good!!!Okay, the Ricky and Bruce stuff is good and the jazz trio was extraordinary, but Brucie and the Noisemakers, Honey, that’s HOME!

Oh my, yes!! Carey deserves platinum. While recently getting rid of old stuff, I found a cassette of “Hot House. ” Lo and behold, one of Carey’s exquisite photos was displayed prominently in the liner notes and that goes back to 1992-93. Here’s to Carey… an artist and the pre-eminient ‘Road Scholar.’

Well done, Jackie!!! The Sibs, Bibs and FoBs [Fans Of Bruce, in general] are proud of you! Well done!!!

We loved the description of the venue and the audience. That’s quite a set list — Songs F, A, D, Boo Radley, a TS Monk Tune and a new song. We are just a tad envious of that pair of concerts, the meet-ups and your meeting of the S&K .

Just one queston, though… Would you please relate Bruce’s explanation[in all the colors he used] for his not playing ‘Jack Straw’? Perhaps, it would lessen the requests?!? We think it’s rather sad that some attention-seeking a**holes must be placated for BH to continue his magic.

DD, Honey! Victor, Baby!!! And Ms. VAF, Sweetie!! And you, too, Jackie, Rumble and other esteemed SIBs, BIBs and BJs [Bruce -Junkies]…. I cannot begin to tell you how envious I am of y’all on this Bruce in the Boone-ies weekend.

Unlike other educators, I work twelve months a year and I usually work the hardest during July and early August. We usually run two Summer Programs simultaneously for Students with Disabilities. One program is for kids who are visually impaired and the other is for kids with PDD [the PC way of saying of Autism]. Once the dust settles, I usually discover how cool these kids are and quite often, how brave. My nightmare is that I would have a possible ‘Stephen Hawking’ genius and that I would be so shallowly concerned with the physical trappings that I would not get to the genius inside. Don’t feel badly for me, we usually have BIG fun…try cosmic bowling with blind kids…

Which brings me to my next point….Ms. VAF, I somewhat begrudgingly relinquish my position of, ahem, ball-handler to you. Vic, Baby, there’s a clause in the contract that, ahem, releases you. You, Darlin’, will be in good and grateful hands. Meanwhile, solo Bruce is almost equal to Bruce and the NoiseMakers. Bruuuce!!!!! appropriately, ‘dance with reckless abandon’ and tell us all about it.

    POOR BABY!!!

…no cards [or kudos] to send,no torn hearts to mend…

Congrats on the new job. Again, we’d fluff your pillows and mix you a remarkable martini, if we were able.

Don’t forget to pack up that salt-lick from the teacher’s lounge..Charters and non-profits will tell you that they cannot afford such things. They don’t do well with $$$, either. At any rate, take the rest of the summer off and listen to the music. In fact, blast the MUSIC– and trust me, BIBs and SIBs– the new Jazz stuff is going to blow us away.

    With the warmest regards,

This contest was fun!!! and I spent hours looking these things up and more hours typing up these referencesComputers crashed, servers blanked…Hell, I left work hours early and sent the darn list to SI from the local library. I’m not sure how many copies of the list he got but I’m sure I was more than a bit annoying. I wanted those tickets!!! A lass named Lisa Lloyd, I believe, won the tickets and the bragging rights. Lisa had LOTS of cites, as I did. I haven’t done that kind of research since grad school!!!

Will they be up again tomorrow? Will the ‘Name That Tune’ contest also run another day?
