fantastic song (and pete’s song is a class too). never thought of “Let my love…” but i can see where that statement comes from. personally i really dig live versions of Shadow Hand, the box set has a nice one. :D

live the song really takes off, espcially with the big rock candy intro. funny, i’ve seen it performed live twice, the second time, knowing (by my bruce intuition) that it was going to come and wasn’t too impressed. then i heard the live version and i was blown away. it was the oyster bay show from 2006 btw

those “crown of jewel” lyrics are great. i also like these:

all these years i’ve been searching so hard
through high tides and low tides too
if i stopped now how could i know what i could do?

from where she sits everyone stands in judgement
everyone watching as the curtain falls down
see the lights do a long slow fade

skimming this thread has been quite interesting. first, on a minor note, Hot House Ball doesn’t not sound like a steely dan lyrics…and the lyrics don’t sound like the Dan men either. about these peaks and valleys, commerically, bruce peaked back in the 80s right? 1# record, grammy awards, music videos that people saw, a sophmore effort that hit the charts hard, and etc…the End of the Innocence title track. since then, bruce has worked through his musical career to what some fans would now say are high points, in light of looking back on his career as “educated fans”, like Harbor Lights, Hot House, and Spirit Trail And now, today, 2007 bruce is off on other adventures: jazz, solo tours, blue-grass on a commerical scale. About reaching the peak of his musical live ability, that’s really hard to say. If concerts are how we measure this, well I love 1988 concerts and concerts from 2002-6 especially 2005/2006 shows. To say he peaked in any one of this years might be impossible. OK, fine, for the sake of argument i’ll say that from what i’ve heard, as a “hardcore” bruce fan, bruce hit an energetic and improvisational high in 2005/2006 live on stage. I think bruce can top these shows in the comming years assuming he stays in shape, his voice holds, etc. haha. gotta hope for the best. but i mean, if i say anything, it’s just hard for me to say something is a “peak” especially when bruce is still performing. If this was a band with members who died or which was broken up, maybe i’d be easier, but thank god it’s not!

so this year as opposed to las ti was dissapinted. bruce didn’t sing long enough due to an overlthy ecessive alexa ray joel. pricks in the right side of the tent destroeyd mandolin rain. a said evening of bruce. no better than a good show with great requests from the true fans. 8/25/05 was a ton better. better crowed, more respect and a lot longer

red plains is a great one too. i have the daily dose of it from 2004 in york, pa though, great version…though that was 2 years ago now…when i see bruce this summer I’m gonna have my friends put in requests with me for: red plains, set me in motion, and long race. I know set me in motion won’t make it but, heck, i’d be fun to hear even a part.

how about “set me in motion”? I know it’s not that crazy, but has Bruce ever done this song live? Or if he has, has he done it more than a handful of times? This or Hotel California or some tom petty song…

    videos/recording from late 80s

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any videos or audio records from 1986-1988 of Bruce & the Range. Old school stuff you know? If this stuff had say The Red Plains or the Long Race…songs that didn’t get much playtime after The Way it Is and Scences From the Southside tours, that would be awesome. I don’t have any bruce to trade really so i’d defintnely send out the blank cds and such. Thanks!
