ParticipantJust when I thought I had heard everything!! If there’s even a slight chance of this being true, let’s hope Bruce has more influence on Miley than the other way around!! 😆

Edited to add: the only connection I found online was that Bruce and Miley share the same birthday. Oh, and Si, thanks for enticing me to Google Miley Cyrus!

ParticipantIf I had to drop a song from Bruce’s selection I’d be hard-pressed to find one post-“Spirit Trail”. More than likely it would be one from “The Way It Is” or “Night on the Town” as I’m just not into that sound quite as much as his latter works. That being said, and I may take some hits for this one, but Valley Road is probably my least favorite of any of his songs. I’ve heard versions of it that I like, but the album version doesn’t work for me.

ParticipantTickets are on sale today for the show 6/16 at The Kentucky Theater, for $96.25 each!! 😮 😯
That being said, I don’t think I’ll be able to fork over that kind of scratch this time around. I’m guessing Bruce had nothing to do with setting that price point for tickets, so I’ll chalk this one up to wasn’t meant to be.
David, if you or anyone else from The Board plan to attend, let me know. It will be worth the drive to come down and have lunch or pre-show dinner with you.
Keep me posted,

I plan on being at the show and hope to see you there! Let’s plan on doing a meet-up prior to the show. Anyone else planning to attend, speak up, and we’ll add you to the list!

ParticipantRe: An Interesting Review About The Recent Salt Lake City Sh
This might be the most unintentionally humorous review of a Bruce show I’ve ever read. What I gathered from it was the reviewer is really into bass guitarists but has never attended anything other than a night at the opera. He was surprised to see so many GD shirts at a Hornsby show, even after pointing out that Bruce toured w/GD for 2 years.
: Didn’t the GD tour nearly non-stop for 35+ years and could be credited with inventing the concept of merchandising at live shows? The reviewer made it sound like they were choosing sides or something. Personally, I’ve seen GD shirts at nearly every concert I’ve been to, so I’m not sure why this would be surprising to an alleged concert reviewer.
Did this review actually get printed in their “high class” magazine? Was it written on an iPhone? (that pesky auto-correct) I’m no wordsmith, but even I had to laugh at some of the misspellings/typos. (What does “discomfiting” mean?) I wonder what their affluent, well-educated reading audience thought of it? 🙄
The covers got a bigger reaction from the crowd than the originals? Could this be due, in part, to an element of surprise?
Also, I need someone to explain the last paragraph of his review to me. I’ve read it 10 times and it still makes absolutely no sense.

ParticipantKaren and I will be there. Unlike last time we bought concert-only tickets. We’re driving in the day of the show and spending the following day @ Lake Lure. We’ll be fresh off of seeing Sir Paul the week before in Cincy and are stoked to get back to Biltmo’!
We’ll see ya there!

ParticipantI do remember seeing Bruce in ’99 on the Sensitive Ones tour with J. Browne, B. Raitt and S. Colvin in Cincy and Bruce had on a short-sleeve button down shirt that was kind of shimmery and a bit flashy. Bonnie and Shawn talked about taking Bruce shopping with them earlier that day and teased him repeatedly about his selection of shirts for the evening. Maybe it was from then on that Bruce began sticking with his “same old thing” to avoid a repeat of that ribbing. 😆

I was going through some of my concert pictures and noticed him with the same outfit in pictures I took at 16 different concerts I have attended in the last six or seven years.
I have talked with him before and after shows and he doesn’t wear that outfit at those times, so he evidently changes into it for gigs only.
I am sure the black shirt is to keep him hot under the lights as performers usually want to be hot during their performances.Just an observation
I’m with you and have taken notice of the same thing, GG! Every show I have been to he is dressed as you described. At the show on 7/1/11 he was wearing the black shirt and blue jeans but the shoes appeared to be somewhat silver or grey and reminded me of either Skechers or Vans. Maybe they were CT’s, but they certainly weren’t black in color.

ParticipantNice job getting the setlist up quickly for us, crimsonace! As far as the set goes, I was impressed at how many songs Bruce managed to include, given the 95 minute limit. Knowing beforehand that it would be a shorter night than usual, I was curious to see how Bruce and the Noisemakers would handle it, and they were impressive as usual.
The venue was really small and is set up so that the floor can have round tables or GA seating or chairs, so getting balcony seats was good foresight. They went with the chair set-up and it seemed to fill up nicely by start time.
I thought the interplay between the band was the most fun to watch. You could tell Bruce wanted to grant more solos than he did, but conserved the time to get to more requests. JV was tearing it up as usual on bass and never lost the smile on his face the entire time. You could tell it was more of a casino crowd than a Noisemakers crowd when one of the largest ovations was given to the mention of Rick Nelson, when Bruce teased Travelin Man. I think they did come looking for a Greatest Hits show but did show respect when the boys would venture off the path to do some exploring. Ultimately, I think Bruce gained a lot more fans by the end of the night, just by sheer force of the band he’s put together. Before the show, one of the bartenders in the room asked me if he would play Valley Road, and he did. I explained to him that he wouldn’t hear the piano the same way again after tonight. I didn’t get back to him to hear his thoughts, but I’m sure he’s happy he got his song played.
Jack of Diamonds is the song Bruce started off with before going into Big Stick. Brokedown Palace was teased (not Black Muddy River) during the medley of Travelin Man>Fields>Mandolin Rain>Brokedown Palace. He also did a couple verses of My Old Hen on accordian before going into Jacob’s Ladder>Cartoons & Candy>piano solo>Jacob’s. Other than that, your setlist matched mine.

ParticipantMaking all the final preparations before hitting the road! My goal is to get there early enough to catch soundcheck. I’ll try to be on my best behavior, as not to raise any suspicion from security. You know how they can be at these casinos. At least that’s how it is in the movies.
Tune in tomorrow for a full review and setlist…and maybe some pics too!

ParticipantAs far as a change to the site, why not? I’ve grown to like the current set-up but I know Si will come up with something that everyone likes, or you can keep it the way it is now. The graphic work he has been working on lately and previewed for us on FB is nothing short of amazing! I echo Jonathan as well, the DDD site is fantastic and if the new Bruuuce.com mimics that, all the better!

That damn jet of mine…..still working on the mechanics of it. 😡 It’s amazing how long things take when you want your jet fixed.SMP
Nope, I remember absolutely everything, at least I think I do! 😆 🙄 Funny, Karen was over the shoulder when I read your response and said she’d actually pay you to see you jump out of the cake! 😯 Your move! 😈
If I make the trip out there I’m still electing to stay outdoors with the other fellas’. How else are we gonna trap and bbq supper for you? 😆 Hey, it’s the least we can do to say thanks for your, uh, hospitality! Karen said she won’t be scared to sleep in the house because you told her you watch all of your guests sleep! And you thought I was bad!
We’ll take you up on that offer someday, mary, and probably when you’re least prepared!
Until then…

Well, now, I’d like to get in on the festivities! It’s too late to rescind your invite to Denver you gave us at Biltmore last time, mary! The Denver show falls on my birthday and what better gift than to be flown out (got that jet fixed yet?) and given the royal treatment by the ever-hospitable, SMP! You won’t have to worry about my accomodations, though, I’ve been watching Man vs. Wild and think I can survive at least one night out in the mountains!

Well, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed, but I certainly understand the logic in your decision. It’s a big difference between a 5 hour drive and a 5 hour flight! I knew you had a Denver show coming your way, so we’ll be counting on you to “fill in the details” for us!
Enjoy the Denver show!

Now less than 2 months away from Biltmo’, baby! We’re staying up near Lake Lure this time, so we’ll be at Biltmo’ later than last time. I’m sure we’ll spot some familiar faces when we arrive and we’ll probably catch up with everyone by the stage before the show!
So, David Day, does this mean you’re in for Biltmo’? I remember last time Bruce did Biltmore was after he played Atlanta and now he’s doing it in reverse. Still hope to see you there, man!
You know who else we haven’t heard from yet? SMP! Where ya at, girl? Working on your costume for the show? Gonna be a bit warm there in August. You may want to cut down on the burlap! 😆
At any rate, we’re geared up and may even have the little molo3’s with us this year. I guess you’ll just have to show up to find out!!

ParticipantHey GG! I know what you mean about lame crowds affecting the performance, so let me put your fears at ease. Biltmo’ will be GA seating and there is plenty of room up by the stage for you to dance and enjoy the entire show. I had this concern before our 1st Biltmo’ show in ’09, since this was also my wife’s first full band show, and I wanted her to get the full effect by having the freedom to dance and dance we did! Not once did anyone from Biltmo’ say anything about standing in front of the stage and Bruce fed off the crowd from the get-go due to the enormous amount of requests submitted that night. Not to mention, the scenery surrounding the Biltmo’ is unlike any other concert venue and is worth the long drive on its own.
So the bottom line is this, you just have to show up and get your dance on!

And John Bigham (Miles Davis prodigy and former member of LA ska/funk rockers Fishbone), who’s all over “Harbor Lights.” And Kimock, who’s a bit indistinct and ethereal on, what, “Big Swing Face”?Certainly Kimock was an oversight on my part, but Marinelli was left out since I wasn’t as familiar with his live stuff and only had his work on Bruce’s first few records as a reference. I liked what you mentioned about Garcia and Metheny and certainly a new thread could be made to dissect their contributions. You’re right, Doug grows on you and you really come to appreciate his talents after hearing from the abundance of live stuff Bruce is putting out for his fans right now.
