Thanks for posting this, Jackie. I was wondering if any of our “Bruuucesters” were going to make it to MerleFest. I just returned from a few sunny, hot days on the beach in SC and a few glorious albeit kind of rainy days in the Blue Ridge Mountains and I have absolutely fallen in love with that section of the country. Hope the weather was kind to you this week, I know there were nasty storms and tornadoes in parts of NC.

I don’t remember that exact detail in the interview, Rich. The interview I referenced is his appearance on Sirius. I don’t know if he has been on Stern before that appearance.

Bruce did say on his interview with Howard Stern that he’s never once touched a drug, so it seems plausible to me that he’s talking about drugs. As a new dad i just kind of see it as a really awesome nursery rhyme Bruce came up with. I think there is already one with gumdrops and lemon drops, etc. but Bruce’s is much cooler. There are verses I could make an argument for that he’s talking about drugs, but I don’t see Bruce’s music having too many drug references in them.

I call to the stand Mr. David Day!

Thanks MVF! I’ve heard it is gorgeous there and that even the drive down is great. Hopefully Bruce will play there next year. It sounds like an awesome venue for a show!

Speaking of the Biltmo’, we’re stopping there for a visit on the way to Myrtle Beach in a week or two and I wanted to see where on the grounds it is that they hold the concerts. Anyone been there specifically to see Bruce perform?

I don’t know if he’s coming there this summer or not, but it’s only about 5 hours from Louisville so it would be worth the trek to get out there and see him. Needless to say, Bruce will be in heavy rotation on the roadtrip.

I’m listening to the Dose from Monday and definitely hearing it with new ears. This was never a song that I would spend much time with when listening to the record, but I really like the live performance of it here. Much edgier and kind of “raw” sounding. The way Bruce sings the first verse reminds me of current day performances of Bob Dylan. He does this thing where he sings the line in a low almost monotone pattern and then up-sings the last word of the line. I forget when it was that Bruce got on stage with Dylan, but i know the Dose has been on here before. Makes me wonder if he saw Dylan sometime around that concert. To make it even more convincing, to my ears only maybe, is that the way this song is performed reminds me of “Tangled Up In Blue”.

Thanks David. The capo is definitely my new best friend. To my ears it sounds like it should be played in C on guitar…

Just downloaded this and have only listened to Country Doctor so far, but WOW, Bruce is on fire!!! I know I put CD in my Top 10 at #3 but that version has moved to #1 as my favorite live version of a song ever! Thanks Bruce and Gang for an incredible early Christmas present!

    David,

Make sure you get your hands on this! Talk about feeding a fix for the Noisemakers! This is definitely it!

Bette Midler? *cringe* So is Sonny gonna teach Bruce “Wind Beneath My Wings”? Hey, you can’t begrudge the guy for working, especially Vegas. Thanks for the info, David!

looks like Bruce and Ricky through 2008, David. I’m jonesin’ for a new Noisemakers concert as well. My wife has never seen Bruce w/band and i’m dying to let her experience the beautiful chaos that is a Bruce & the Noisemakers

Ditto David — good to see Molomolomolo is taking time away from the baby powder and diaper pail to visit the forum! ;)

May I just say here that I listened to Spirit Trail on the road this weekend and I don’t think there’s a better three-song stretch on any album than the Great Divide > Line In The Dust > See The Same Way trio on that double album. Thematically, they’re similar, and, lyrically, they have some great turns. The music’s not bad, either. 😆

I don’t think there’s a better double album — period — anywhere. It’s so absolutely solid from top to bottom! I love ST, and Bruce could do much worse than framing his new album in a similar fashion. Just my pair o’ pennies.

    Vic

    Vic,
My thoughts exactly on ST. That record was my entry point into Bruce’s music and is still my favorite overall record hands down of his. I wouldn’t mind seeing something along those lines done again as well.

As for the baby powder and the diaper pail, I’m definitely having my fill of those. We had a boy and a girl back in April. Both are well and growing up on a steady ‘daily dose’ of Bruuuce and Doc Watson.

    David,
No need to send a posse after me. I’ve got my own posse now that is as good as any around! It’s good to see the “brain damage” hasn’t taken away your appreciation of the finer things!

Definitely next to impossible to only pick 10 Bruce songs as favorites. I’d almost have to list songs as 1A, 1B, 1C, etc. So here goes nothing:

    1. Pastures of Plenty
    2. Sad Moon
    3. Country Doctor
    4. Halcyon Days
    5. Spider Fingers
    6. Lost in the Snow
    7. Swan Song
    8. What A Time
    9. Tango King
    10. Circus on the Moon

so you jumped right into Vista, Si? A brave man! I have to use XP at work but it always has issues with Media Player (which is Microsoft’s own, go figure) and at home still use Win2000. I hear Vista has issues with iPods and iTunes (big shock there) and that Apple is supposed to release something to repair it. i’m supposed to take a look at Vista this weekend, as my friend has rushed out to put it on his PC as well. I’m not a computer expert by any means but i can’t imagine MS has all the bugs out of Vista.

Cozumel is the best place for scuba and snorkeling, isn’t it David? You did a 10 miler in Cozumel? You must have run around that whole island twice or something. it’s really tiny.

    Louisville show?

    Si-
I was curious if you got your hands on anything from the Louisville show from a few weeks back. Dreamland, Road Not Taken were two very tender, memorable moments in the show. If either of those pop up i would absolutely love to hear them again.

    Thanks

    Chris,

i guess at this point its open for speculation only, but i would guess that he is going to release the full show for purchase as did for previous shows. i would imagine that someone out there has a recording of this and perhaps we’ll see a song or two leak out. I went to the show and they were really really adamant about recording devices of any kind.

A round of golf with you guys sounds like a lot of fun. This is only my second year playing golf, so i still have a lot to learn. I’m not quite sure i’m ready for a course such as Valhalla or even the one Allisa mentioned. I am planning on taking a few lessons this winter so maybe next year i’ll get down in the 80’s if possible. (my best score for 18 this year was a 94).

So, Allisa, if we were able to get some Bruuuce fans out there for an outing could you get us a discounted rate package? It would probably have to be next summer after my wife has her baby but we’d love to come out there and play that course and take in the beauty of the area. If you can’t then we’ll try to make it out there anyway.

Vic-I checked out the course online. Looks really nice! Not sure when i’ll be in Chatt next, but maybe could make a weekend golf trip sometime in the near future. Valhalla here in Louisville is Nicklaus-designed as well and is a beautiful course. Went to the PGA Championship here in ’96 and ’00 and got tickets for the Ryder Cup in ’08. Next to impossible to get on the course unless you know a member.
