ParticipantLooks like it was a fantastic setlist! Sounds like a very unique location for a show–right off the casino floor? I wonder if between songs you could still hear the *tink-tink-tink-tink-tink-tink* of the slot machines going off in the background? I’m also curious as to why a casino would have a time limit for a show. I guess they don’t want to keep their patrons away from the tables for too long! I’d love to know who the drummer was for the set. My man Molo, perhaps? That would be classic!
As a “Si”de note, the main page of Bruuuce.com looks unbelievable. Kudos to Si for all his hard work. ’09 is now officially “The Year of Bruuuce”!!

ParticipantAs a long time listener to Howard Stern, I can tell you that an endless number of comedians have come in to rail against RW. These were people who were on the level if not above RW in talent and status, so I doubt jealousy had much to do with it. I doubt we’ll see Bruce making an appearance at one of his gigs, even if it is close to his house. I enjoy going to comedy clubs, especially Caroline’s when I’m in NYC, but seeing a comedian play in a venue that is more suited for concerts, IMO is just a bad idea and not worth the $$ ($57-$90 per seat in most places!!).

ParticipantI have to agree with Kat. Seeing a Noisemakers gig is electric, an “experience” if you will, but having seen a solo Bruce show as well, I can tell you that he is just as comfortable solo as he is with a full backing band. If you see him at the right venue it can almost be like he is performing in your living room just for you. IMO, if you see Bruce solo at a small theater with a balcony, get the first row of the balcony over the first row or three down front. The piano is usually up too close that you can’t see much of Bruce’s “handy” work. He is by far my favorite live performer and no matter where it is or who he’s with it is always worth the price of admission–and then some!
Happy New Year!

Between a little traffic issue trying to get back across the bay from Safety Harbor, and a 30 minute “discussion” with the hotel manager about a daily resort fee we weren’t informed about at booking – we didn’t arrive at the Hard Rock Casino until about 8:50 this evening. So I have once again been at the gates of the promised land and denied… Honestly, I didn’t feel like spending $120 for $80 of remaining concert time… So assuming Bruce doesn’t retire or go down in a firey plane crash before I can make it to a full show, I will be there someday… I just hope he schedules something with The Noisemakers somewhere in my general area this year. As much as I’m sure I would enjoy a solo show, I think the full band would be better.
I’m pretty bummed about the whole thing since I got up at the crack of dawn to get on the road early to get there in plenty of time for good seats… but I-95 traffic, hotel managers, and GPS systems that don’t deal well with construction issues can ruin the best laid plans. 😡 Bourbon helps though…
Oh, and once a year is enough of your Dawgs, but I’ll be pulling for SEC dominance in all of the bowl games.
Heath
Sounds like a horrible experience there, Heath. Sorry you missed the show. I guess we’ll have to wait for Mr. Day to get back from sunny FL to get his review of the show. I’m sure Bruce will be somewhere near you in the coming year, and hopefully for your sake it’s a Noisemakers show.

ParticipantSounds like it will be a great time! Wish I didn’t have to be stuck here at work. Mr. Day, we expect a full report, setlist included, when you return.

ParticipantThanks for the link, Mr. Dunn! Looks like some cool stuff coming our way in ’09. Also explains why we didn’t see an abundance of shows this year.

ParticipantI have to say “ditto” to the things David Day said about the contributions to “Strike Three”. I was completely unaware of the talent that surrounds us here at the Forum. Everyone should be very proud of how their contributions turned out and kudos to Si for putting this all together and for all the hard work that went into this.
I do want to say that I am not the only one at my house that dug the selections put forth. My 17-month-old twins were boogeying right along with me, especially Circus On the Moon. For me right now Lost (in the Snow) Soul is my frontrunner but, like almost every Bruce song on every record, I’m sure that tomorrow I will have a different favorite from the bunch.

ParticipantGlad to have you back, Si! Sorry to hear about your ailments but hopeful everything can and will be taken care of for you with that.
As far as football goes, you mean to tell me that there are people who get so wrapped up in their sports that they make threatening phone calls? Glad we don’t have that kind of thing over here! 😯 Seriously, I hope that has all been resolved for you as well.
I will say I got to spend a lot of time with some of your fellow citizens last week at the Ryder Cup here in Louisville and they were really a great group of people. They definitely showed us a thing or two when it came to coordinating a cheer, but we got the last laugh on Sunday! 😆

ParticipantIf indeed Bruce is paying tribute to the “gloved one”, I nominate “Smooth Criminal” for the record. While I’m at it, I’d like to request “PYT” at Bruce’s next gig. Thanks Bruce!

ParticipantDave,
Buildings don’t fall over on their own and conspiracy theories don’t bring friends and loved ones back from a horrific unnecessary death. Please respect those of us who mourn and leave the fact-findings to Oliver Stone.

We are packed and ready to leave tonight. We just have to travel from south of Houston up to Austin area. The kids are a little sad about not having their Noisemakers birthday party this weekend. We expected up to 40 kids for a musical themed b-day party..but its best to be safe, specially with little kids.
So we’ll keep in touch. We will take the laptop computer with us and I’ve got my important Bruce Collection Box with me..the one thing I can’t leave behind all my cds, pictures and other memories.
Thanks again and will keep in touch with you all!
Monica
Be safe, Monica! Hope all goes well for you.
A Noisemakers-themed party? That sounds really rad! Can’t wait to take my little ones to their first Bruuuce show! They did hear him in utero but I want them to get the full on experience! I’ll have to write that down as a party idea. Thanks! 😆 😆

ParticipantI’ll be watching the weather closely to see what happens. I guess the concerts are rain or shine unless it becomes too severe. I’d hate to drive 9 hours just to sit in the rain. Just don’t tell Bruce about my fairweatheredness…

When I first listened to Spirit Trail,King Of The Hill,Song C and Fortunate Son were among my favorites. When I heard live versions of Great Divide,See The Same Way and Funhouse, they became the songs I loved. Today, I have a real appreciation for the “obscure” tracks (ones that aren’t played very often in the live shows-Sunlight Moon, Listen To The Silence, etc.)
Next week, next month I’m sure I’ll hear something amazing on the album or a live recording and find a new favorite. Here’s to more great musical adventures!
Jackie
See, it proves itself again! I was listening to Spirit Trail this morning on a long drive I had and Sad Moon came on. It is my favorite live song and for today my favorite off of “ST”.

Yeah, you can definitely say that again! I was in right field in real life at the All-Star Homerun Derby up in NYC last month as well. You must have seen me on TV, David Day!

ParticipantLooks like I need to try to be there sometime Saturday night then. Not sure how much fun I’ll be after the long drive, but a few “long tall cool ones” ought to cheer me up. Now, off to Google The Taphouse… 😆

ParticipantIt looks like a real possibility that I’ll be heading to Bay Days from Louisville, KY. I’m looking at a 9 hour drive straight across 64E, so I’m issuing an offer to pick up as many as two other folks who would like to tag along and help defray the cost of driving and lodging. All I ask is that you would be reasonably close to 64 (within 30 minutes is reasonable I think) and be willing to split the gas from your place to Hampton and back to your place. I have a small car (Chevy Aveo) but it is really great on gas, so it shouldn’t cost too much really. If I can’t find anyone to tagalong with me then I will not have too many options when it comes to lodging.
Try to let me know by August 29th so we can work out arrangements.

ParticipantSpirit Trail is definitely my favorite Bruuuce for two reasons and the first is nostalgia. I was working in a record store at the time of its release and we had a copy that we would play in the store. Every day when I came in that was the first CD that I would play. It was kind of funny, but at the time, I didn’t put it together that it was the same guy from “The Way It Is” fame. Now, every time I listen to it I hear something on it I never noticed before and also have a new favorite from it each time as well.
For what it’s worth, Funhouse is my favorite tune on the record–as of right now!

ParticipantMan, this thread really has me jonesin’ for a Bruuuce and Noisemakers fix! I’m seriously considering Bay Days now. Only a 9 hour drive from Louisville and two free Bruuuce shows to boot! If you’re going to the show send me a message in private, I’d really like to meet up with some fans.

I was thinking the same thing myself when i saw the prices David listed. Those prices don’t include the $150 one way cost of gas to get there from Louisville, a five hour drive.

ParticipantHaving just returned from the Biltmo’ and not even coming close to seeing everything there in one day, I definitely want to go back for a second visit. (Having two one year olds slows you down tremendously!) Maybe if enough of us on here got in the ear of Bruce’s team and even dropped lines to the Biltmo’ people (nicest staff every, by the way) perhaps we can get them to arrange a return appearance from Bruce and the Noisemakers. There is a great non-com radio station that can be heard in Asheville, 88.7 FM I believe it was, for those who may be traveling through there. There is one like it here in Louisville and it is probably the only chance you’ll hear a post-’80s Bruce tune on the radio. While we in Asheville they played a steady rotation of bluegrass, which I felt was the mandatory soundtrack for the area.
