I actually got to hear the “Big Rock Candy Mountain/Candy Mountain Run” at a solo show in Dallas, TX and also again I requested it in Oregon last year….one of my favorites.

    Hey, Ladybug,
Fantastic to see that a bum shoulder won’t keep you off the Board :D

    Re: Candy Mountain Run…
Should I bring my vintage copy of Candyland to the Hampton Bay Days???

Oh, hey…Monica and I toured around the Biltmo’ Estate wearing our limited edition Bay Days T-shirts. Had lots of comments on them. Either there are more SiBs and BiBs in Western NC than we thought…or maybe they were just mystified by the “Toni Twins” look. I am planning to wear it to the Bay Days this (we hope!!!) September.

I always assumed it was an acronym, then I just realized it should be read like a vanity license plate. When you do, I believe it reads, Sick Bastard!! That you are Bruce ;)[/quote]

Anybody who has ever tried to read stories written by first-graders could have had the answer right off.

    BTW-…just a little thought for the day…
It’s no wonder that people are trying extra hard to find jobs now…. it has taken me over three days to fill out all the f*****g paper work for unemployment insurance 😮
Also…I have heard, from a very reliable source, that Monica made it through her shoulder surgery. (Monica…if DPD comes around looking for some meds, don’t fall for it ;)

I vote for the first category..crazyiest travel to get to a Bruce show.

29 hours to the Biltmore show and 32 hours back home to Texas on a greyhound bus.

That was my weekend trip…the show was a blast…but the travel was rather painful!!!!
I got bruises on my knees to prove it.

    Monica

    And I have a witness…MVF

Not to mention having to pick up MVF off the ground, and having to stay at the Biltmo’ parking lot until 1:00 in the morning.

The request is ALMOST perfect. I would only add
The head stripper is named David P. Day.

I loved that he played Big Rock Candy Mountain with Candy Mountain Run at the Biltmo’. I watched and listened carefully, but could not detect any hints about the song.

    Here’s your challenge –
If you can get that request on stage at Bay Days and have Bruce mention it, I will buy you a mug of your favorite potent potable.

BTW – That was MY rat that Bruce honed in on for requests. That makes three times I’ve sent something up to the stage that he has commented on during a show. Now if only it would show up on one of the Request Collages……..

    Alrighty, then…
    Biltmore was a decidedly ….ummm…errr, different show. Bruce and the boys were in rare form, and they have never sounded so good. I understand that it had been awhile since they had played together — it was either Doug or J.V. who said that the band was a bit “rusty” (keep in mind that it was very late, I’m getting pretty old, and they were serving pina coladas and strawberry daquiries {sp?}), but I know it was one or the other of them. ANYWAY….. I don’t know what Bobby Read has been up to, but I saw him smile and joke around last night more than last the ten concerts put together, while J.T. was uncharacteristicly subdued (look it up, David). Bruce and the band played a few songs in R.S.’s honor {can’t you just see him and Jerry Garcia playing t0ogether??}

It was great to see so many of our SiBs and BiBs. Was the first time I was able to put faces to all these names I keep typing.

Let’s see, I need to tie up a few loose ends….

David – do I owe you for the glass of wine on the veranda? And why were you spo late getting tpo thew concert?? 😮

Molomolomolo – Enjoyed meeting you and Mrs. Molo. I hope that it is just the beginning of a beautiful friendship (who said that?)

Kerry and Mary – I will admit right now that I can’t remember who was who –never give me two similar sounding names at one time!

Gerald and Jonathan – Sorry Bruce didn’t play “Fortunate Son”. Just know that every time I hear that song, I think of you. And Jonathan- we’re gonna have to put a brick on your head to keep you from growing so much. Send me a PM with your address – I have something for Jonathan

Monica, sweet Monica– First—the key WAS in the car, it was hidden under the bears in the back seat. I hope that you will believe me when I say “…you would not understand, this is not how I am…” Honest, this past weekend was like a nightmare from h*ll. I’m still picking gravel out of my teeth after that little “trip” 😆 Thank you for getting us backstage…you were very sweet to include me. I will send you your sweater. Please send me some pics.

Holy cow!! What a memory you must have!!

Once again, I have prepared my request – Black Rats of London

He can’t ignore the request. There will be a small rubber rat attached.

I’ve tried writing my request on a basketball. No dice.

I have used various Teddy Bears to transport my request. Nope

I’m just tickled pink that you remembered our debate on “Candy Mountain Run”
I SHOULD be at Bay Days this year. Face it, after the shindig at the Biltmo, it may take a bit before we recover. ;)

I’d like for us all to bow our heads and say good-bye to my 1989 Acura Integra. I know, I know, it had a long and productive life. But it has been on life support since we hit that police cruiser, and it was time to finally let it go. At least I know it will go out in a blaze of glory. The gut driving it plans to use it in the Demolision Derby over at Ace Speedway.

Bruce just won’t sound the same in my (new to me) 1995 Toyota Camry. I know its a good car, but it just screams “Middle aged responsible old woman on board”. Also, it has automatic transmission, and I am already missing those “gear shifts”.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent and mourn in my own way.

Bad news for Mrs. Molo. Once you see the set-up of the stage, you’ll understand why they can’t let us dance on stage. At the first one, some chick managed to climb over the amps and get on stage, but security managed to wrestle her down.

I’d like to make an addition to THE SCHEDULE, David—

9:00 am – 12:00 or 1:00 — Excursion to “the shops”. Meet at 9:00 at THE McDonald’s at the Biltmore Villiage. ( if you are interested in going, let MVF know ASAP).

Oooohhh Thery had better NOT cancel the Biltmo’ Sho’, ’cause if that happens, SOMEONE wil have a hell of a lot of Bruce fanatics dancing on his head. 😡 😡

I like the idea that IF that concert folds, we should all do the meet-up anyway.

I’m picking Monica up at the bus staion at about 8:00 Saturday morning. Since that gives us a decent chunk of “down time”, I’m thinking of getting up a shopping excursion. I know a really, really, REALLY cool place about 30 minutes outside of Asheville. Promised Moinica tjhat we would be back in time to get all gussied up for Bruce and the band. If you are remotely interested, let me know ASAP. Should be a blast!!

    From past experiencre—
The LINE to get into the show always starts about 3-4 o’clock. I should know—I’ve been first in line for the past four Biltmo’ Shos. I am willing to sacrifice that honor so I can hang out with ya’ll.

    Hey lady,
There’s no need to fear!!! MVF is here!! 😆
Talked with your hubby and I think we have it ALL taken care of. I should be cruising into Asheville in time to meet your bus at 8:30 am Saturday. And, if you don’t mind HoJo’s, then you can share a room with me. And I should be able to get you back to the bus station on Sunday.

Hey, babe, that’s what friends (and SiBs) are for!!!

Funny you would mention “What a Time”. Bruce played that at the second Biltmo’ Sho’. He prefaced the song by saying, “…and now it’s dark. All sorts of things can be going on out in the crowd. And we encourage ALL of it”. ;)

If you can get ahold of a copy of that concert, I think you will be quite happy. I have a copy. If I can get a disc burned in time, I’ll bring it to you on Saturday. :D

Speaking of which….I plan to be in Asheville around 12:00 – 1:00. Is there a meet-up BEFORE the meet up???????? 😆

    Okay, lads and lasses—
What song are going to request at the Biltmo’ Sho’??

I still have my little plastic rat, and I plan to use it to request “Black Rats of London”. At least, I think that’s the right wording.

I will (probably) bring my stacks of neon paper and black markers, for those of you who forgot their supplies.

David, exactly WHERE are we meeting?

    molomolomolo,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. My daily routine lately has been to get out of bed, pull on the pantyhose, and door to door of the businesses around town, collecting applications and handing out resumes. Thought about applying at the local Hooters, but…….(DPD can finish that one! ;)

Personally, I like the idea you had about going shirtless and writing “molo3” on your chest. Believe me, YOU’D get away with it better than I would!!

I’m getting ready to make my hotel reservations for that Saturday with the HoJo,s in Asheville.
Antbody want to go halvsies (or thirdslies, or fourthlies) on a room?? Let me know ASAP. 8-)

At last, something to look forward to!! I’ll have to hunt out my “bruuuce.com babe” shirt and add another year to the back. So far, it reads…Biltmo’ Sho’ 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005. :D

Bryann, are we all going to wear our Bay Days shirts????? I still have my collection of “Me So Hornsby” bracelets. ;)

David, thanks for taking the ball and running with it. In addition to EVERYTHING that has happened lately, I have been laid off by the school where I teach. So, after 20 years of teaching, I am having to search the want ads, etc. My son just graduated from NC State with a Master’s in engineering, and he is having a hard time finding a job, too. 😥

    Hmmm,
Wonder if Bruce is looking for a “roadie”?? 😆

Gee, it’s good to be back home again…….. :P

Well, well, well. At least I am, for the time being. All casts, bandages, etc. have come off except for the right hand. And they have weaned me off pain medication (sorry David, no happy pills for you.)

If ya’ll can bear with this one finger typing for a while, then I guess I’m back for good.

Ddavid, I think the best meet up place would be the line to get onto the South Tarrace. SO FAR, I ahave had the front spot every time.

I have my ticket, will probably book a room at the HoJo.

Since, lately, I have had PLENTY of time to sit and listen to music, I have revisited all of Bruce’ work, in cronological order. All I have to say, is, “What the h*ll was “Big Swing Face” all about, anyway.
