You don’t suppose…… That Bruce would stick around @ grace the stage with one of the greatest bands of the ’70s (Love Roller Coaster, Fire, that scandalous cover on the “Taste of Honey” album…….)

ParticipantNow, see, Molo3, if you could make it to the Norfolk show, I could take you on my infamous “Bruce Hornsby’s Williamsburg” tour and show you The Valley Road 🙄 Maybe it would “flesh out” the studio version. 😆
No, really, I have to agree you on VR as well as a few others from that era. I guess that’s why we love live shows so much!!!!

ParticipantYou guys are SO lucky
I just spent over 30 minutes composing an indepth post, and then, poof!, it disappeared into space. 😮 Well, I ain’t gonna type it all again, so here is the condensed version 😆Dang, dang, dang!!! 😥 😥
I still want to look into this project, even if Bruce won’t wear one of our ole shirts. I’m going to the craft and fabric store tomorrow to research materials needed for a shirt. I would really like to get some feedback from y’all about this. I know from the Hampton Bay Days T-shirt debacle that it is best to leave the Bruce merchandising to the professionals (Bryann, did you ever get rid of all those shirts, or are you still giving them out to Trick-or-Treaters?). But that doesn’t mean a few of us die-hard ( or just plain crazy
) fans can’t have a little fun. I’m not making a commitment that these shirts will happen, but I’d like to try. Would anybody else be interested? This would not be a commitment on your part, either. I just want to see if this idea is feasible.

Participant😳 Okay, again, I need to take my foot out of my mouth and remember to NOT comment of that which I know nothing. 😳
I know that a goodly number of people at any given Bruce concert are not pleased when he plays a song differently, or “goes off” on one of his (wonderful) piano forays. But, as the man says of those people, “frankly, I’m not here for them”. I applaud him for being confident enough of his music that a few ole’ sticks in the mud don’t faze him a bit. But that’s just what I think.
As to solo shows- Let me state first that I base the following on two solo shows and one show with Bruce + the Virginia Symphony.
As much as I truly loved The Range (John Molo in particular
), I am “in love” with the Noisemakers!!!! 😮 Not that I am trying to brag (or trying to rehash my Bruce resume), but I have had the chance to interact with the band members on numerous occasions and there is not a pretentious bone in the whole group. And, I think they are not only some of the most talented musicians that I have ever heard, but as a group, they mesh in a way that is rarely seen. But that’s just what I think.
MVF
Miss Virginia FormerBTW GG,
I wasn’t trying to bore anyone with my “Bruce resume”. I was simply trying to get across where I was coming from. 😳MVF
ParticipantPardon me while I take my foot out of my mouth. 🙄
I really need to get someone to read all my outgoing emails and filter them for crass remarks and over-opiniated statements BEFORE I send them. DD, are you available????. 😆
I admit, I have only heard BB a couple of times and shouldn’t comment on something of which I know nothing. How much of a coincidence was it that they lost one of their band members just as the were being inducted?
I would really like to find out what process is used to determine inductees. True, Bruce’s fans may be few, but we are fiercely loyal, and, face it, the majority of these fans are, shall we say, more mature, and have the experience and know-how to help put this whole thing in motion. I don’t know if fan input would help sway the decision of the ?judges?, but, hell, I’ve lobbied Senators in Washington and launched several campaigns to change laws, bills, etc. on the local, state, and national level. Just point me in the right direction and let me go.
MVF
Miss Virginia FormerMVF
ParticipantOkay, look. If the Beastie Boys can get inducted, then SURELY Bruce needs to be!!! 🙄 And Donovan??. Really????

ParticipantOkay, I’ve been silent long enough. 😈 I’ve got to weigh in with my two cent’s worth.
And before SiTwi smacks me again via PM,
let me state that I respect everyone’s opinion and think no more or no less of my SiBs & BiBs because they don’t think exactly like I do –in fact, Dreadlock Dave would point out that we’d all be screwed if ANYBODY thought exactly like I do!!!!! 😆
A.J. — You could do without “Til the Dreaming’s Done” ????? 😮 Okay, maybe it’s because I’m emotionally attached to it. I used to do a lot of traveling for the National Education Association, and one of the “must haves” on each trip was my cassette player. The only way I could get to sleep in a strange place was to crank up side two of “Scenes From the Southside”. By the time it rolled around to TTDD, I was pleasantly sleepy (in a good way) and on my way to slumberland. I especially swooned over the accordion “rifts” at the end of stanzas. It has become one of my “comfort” songs. But that’s just me.
**************
GG — (1) I agree about the original version of Mandolin Rain being the definitive (although the version with Ricky Skaggs is a close second).
(2) Yeah, I could do without part two of “Preacher in the Ring”, although the lyrics do help flesh out the story initiated in part one.
(3) I cut my teeth on the Range. 😮 Yes, the original recordings of some songs can be “poppy”, but recent live versions are not only pleasant to listen to, but showcase the growth of an artist. I “stuck around” after the Range, the Bruce & Molo stint, through the Jimmy Haizlip/John D’Earth/John Molo era, the Grateful Dead faze, pairings with Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown & Shawn Colvin, Ricky Skaggs, Bela Fleck, and others, on into the Noisemakers time, not to mention his forays into jazz, bluegrass, musical theater, etc., because it blows my mind to watch how versatile Bruce can be with new AND old material – not to mention when he covers other artists’ songs – and it seems I fall in love all over again every time I hear Bruce stretch his wings into a new direction.
But that’s just me.

Nothing yet. Si PMd me earlier saying that he would be talking to Bruce soonand would find out particulars for me then. I feel so special! 😳
You know, I think that my “relationship” with Bruce borders right on that line between “Hey, MVF, it’s good to see you again” and “Oh my God, call security!!, She’s back !!! 😆

ParticipantBut you guys ARE my loved ones!
Okay, then, how about this….. we could make them available for a limited time, limit the number that would be available, AND charge an inflated amount of money for them. Then we would donate the proceeds to Si’s favorite charity — I can’t remember the name right off, but I know it was featured several times on the Bruuuce.com site.
If we are going to make this happen, I need a few favors. Could somebody who has an inside track find out Bruce’s approximate shirt size? Does anybody remember how long the sleeves are on this notorious shirt??
BTW, let’s take a poll…….
How many people would like a pattern so they could sew their own shirts? How many people would rather pay for a completed shirt? 😆
I agree with highway_61… I really hope this little venture can work. I mean, how many other artists have fans that are so dedicated that they want to design clothing for them? Face it, there is a fine line between fanaticism and obsession…. and I’m not sure which side of the line this falls. 🙄

Unless something has changed since I left Tidewater, Amtrak does not run to Norfolk. I think the closest it gets is Newport News. But ask Monica — I run a mean shuttle service! 😆

ParticipantAAARRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! 😮 😮 😮
I don’t know which is worse—- the fact that there will be no Biltmo’ Sho’ this summer 😥 , or……… that Dreadlock Dave was actually right for once.
Sooooo…….
Who’s going to Norfolk for Harborfest?????? The last time I attended Harborfest, I was driving one of those old-fashioned trolleys in the parade, carrying the Harborfest Queen’s “Court”, right behind the Shriners and their little cars. Why is it that we will travel great distances to visit an event, but never go to ones in our own town????Hey, in case you miss the MVF guided tour of downtown Norfolk, make sure you visit Waterside (big building w/ blue roof next to Harborfest, filled with shops & cool restaurants). Check out the Virginia Walk of Fame, and find Bruce’s “star”.
We better get busy. We only have about two months to plan THE event of the summer.
Miss Virginia Former
BTW
I checked out the bands that WILL be at the Biltmore this summer — Steve Miller, Peter Frampton, KC and the Sunshine Band, the Villiage People, Foreigner, David Cassidy, and several other bands. Geez, looks like a list of the records I had as a teenager. All that’s missing is The Osmonds, Bobby Sherman, the Cars, and Supertramp! In fact, I still have all my old 33 1/3 albums. Wonder if they would be worth anything on eBay? Of course, you’d have to find someone who still has a record player! (I do!) 😆MVF
MVF
ParticipantBoy, you really HAVE been giving this some thought…….
I’d like to take on the challenge. How would I “exhibit” the finished product????? And does anybody have any idea what size The Man wears? Even if it’s not fitted, I gotta have something to go on, other than the fact that he’s “a long, tall cool one”.
Miss Virginia Former
MVF
ParticipantOh, yeah, like I’m gonna believe anything you say!!!! 😡
I think you’re just trying to string me along, get me to join the gang in Norfolk(which, by the way, is going to be an absolute blast), then razz me when I have to miss da’ Biltmo’ Sho’. Oh, yeah, I am wise to you
I’m waiting for an official announcement, thank you.
BUT…..
If Norfolk turns out to be IT for the summer, well, then, my friend, the Board is gonna ROCK the Harborfest!!!!!

This was the first time I had heard China Doll performed live. Also, anybody know what the second sample of music is? And, of course, yet another variation on Mandolin Rain.
Thanks, AMP!!!
