I dunno…… seems like the last time North met South, the South didn’t come out of it too well. In fact, some of my relatives are still trying to forget it…….. :?

…….but, if drinks are on you, Dreadlock Dave, then it might just be worth the risk!!!!!! 😆

The Tidewater area is certainly getting more than it’s fair share of BH. 3 shows in less than 10 months!

The Man says that he loves playing hometown concerts because it’s more of a reunion than a concert. I’ve noted that he has more “guests” onstage, and more of the family in the audience when he is in Tidewater.

The Tidewater area treats Bruce well. He was asked to “open” the new Norfolk Opera House, as well as the massive Virginia Beach Amphitheater (BTW, I grew up and lived a majority of my life about three miles from the amphitheater).

In fact, if memory serves me, the city of Norfolk honored him with his own “star” on the Walk of Local Fame in front of Waterside Festival Park.

I’ve seen about 20 Bruce concerts in Tidewater, Williamsburg, and Richmond over the years. These concerts do have more of a laid back, off the cuff sound.

Hmmmmmm…..seems I’m due back in Virginia Beach soon to help the ‘rents muck out the attic in anticipation of moving to the old folks farm. Bet I can jimmy it around to show up near June 9……..

I heard a radio interview a while back, where he said there were several reasons he didn’t like to play it much. In addition to the song not having aged well, he also stated he thought of this song as more of a “lounge” act from back in his days of playing at the Holiday Inn. He also said that he was really tired of people requesting it because it was their anniversary, or the got engaged (and several other romantic exploits) while listening to the song. He said you would not believe how many people had come up to him and shown that they had “Every Little Kiss” enscribed on the inside of their wedding bands.

My thought is that he is afraid to play it. With that many people so emotionally wrapped up in it, if he deviated from the original at all, there might be an angry mob. But hey, that’s just my thought.

This may get me booted off the board, but…..

The are only four songs that I WILL listen to on “Levitate”…..
    Black Rats of London
    Prairie Dog Town
    Simple Prayer
    Low Country

I just can’t get into the rest of the album. I don’t know if he wandered a little too far away from the “Range” days, if I have so many more selections from his repertoire that I can be choosy, or if I’m just getting old and crotchety.

Treah, don’t dispair! Lots and lots of us are “dysclexic”! ;)

BTW, I collect humorous T-shirt sayings. Three of my favorites are, “Bad Spellers of the World, Untie!”, i before e, except after c, except when it’s “a”, as in neighbor or weigh, Weird, isn’t it?” and “I am an atheist and dyslexic. There is no Dog”. 😆

And, because, as I constantly tell Dreadlock Dave, “I am the grammarian about whom your mother warned”, I will include this fun fact. Dyslexia is scrambling words or letters as you read, dysgraphia is scrambling words or letters as you write, and dyscalia is scrambling numbers as you read or write them. I suffer from “Otic Dyscalia”, which means I often sramble numbers that I hear; therefore, I have to see the number in order to write it down. Thank God they invented debit cards, because I was tired of writing bad checks at Wal-Mart!! 😳

Well, seeing as I have the ultimate user name, I feel I must educate the masses:

Way back when, long time ago, I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA (in reality, I was born in Princess Anne County, VA, before it incorporated the town of Virginia Beach). Because of all the military installations there, the entire population tends to turn over every three or four years. Very few people can boast that they are natives of the area, much less a life-long resident.

I actually had a run-in with an assistant department manager named “B. Hornsby” at Roses Department store in the Hilltop area. Imagine my surprise when next I encountered him as he was playing at The Cave down at The Beach (and I THINK I remember seeing him at “Mother’s, but not sure). There was also a brief encounter with Bruce at The Cheese Shop in Williamsburg. The local radio station constantly had him and various members of The Range in the studio for interviews and live performances, and they frequently played tapes of shows from around the country.

Fast forward through time many, many (many) years, and a business opportunity in North Carolina came by that was too good to pass up, so I didn’t, and 17 years later, I’m still living here in Gooberville, NC

ANYWAY, not long after arriving here, “The Longest Night” came out. The first time I heard the lyric, “there’s Mr. DE in the corner, dancin’ with the Miss Virginia Former”, I adopted the song as my anthem.

SO, when I first encountered The Board, I signed up as Miss Virginia Former. SOMEBODY who was just too lazy and tired shortened it to “MVF” (David P. Day). At some point, some kind of computer glitch arose that necessitated me creating a new account, but would not delete the old account. So I chose the now-infamous “MVF” for the new account. Through the years, it has been bastardized to mean “Most Vindicative Female”, “Most Vociferous Female”, and, my favorite, “Most Valuable Fan”.

Sometimes, I think it should be “TOPWCKDIC”, The Only Person Who Can Keep David In Check”.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

Still mooovin’ and grooovin’ here in Gooberville, NC,
    MIss Virginia Former

    BTW!
Some time back, I heard Bruce refer to someone as “Dreadlock Dave”, which has now become MY pet name for Mr. DPD, since he’s not creative enough to come up with one of his own. 😆

I am a frequent visitor/patron of Chewnings Tavern at Colonial Williamsburg. A friend of mine plays the bagpipes there as sort of a “roaming minstrel” several nights a week. He says that at least once a night, somebody yells out, “Freebird!” as he is playing. When I am there, it is usually me. It’s almost become an endearment. Believe me, the only thing stranger than hearing this song actually played by Bruce, is to hear it played on the bagpipes. My second favorite thing to yell out at a Bruuuce concert is “Black Rats”. My third favorite is “Let Teresa Dance Onstage!”.

My second favorite thing to yell out to my ‘piping friend is “quit torturing that cat and let it go!” ;)

On a slightly different tone, I would someday like to hear a string of “Gonna Be Some Changes Made/Changes/The Way It Is” . If you are unsure of the inclusion of that last song, just think “Tupac”.

    Hey, Dreadlock Dave,

Whad bout Children of Zion/Big Rock Candy Mountain/Candy Mountain Run??????

A while back, North Carolina ran a state-wide tourism commercial (yeah, you have to even beg the residents to vacation NC) featuring someone I’m SURE I should know, plunking on a banjo and singing “Big Rock Candy Mountain”. Somehow, though, I don’t think the lyrics were the same………

I ONCE heard Bruce play Free Bird/The Way It Is (to the music of FB)/The Way It Is (played the RIGHT way) followed by “There, are you happy, Miss Virginia Former?!?! 😮 😆

Due to reasons WAY beyond my control, I can’t make the Durham show. Send a PM or email if you want the really gory details.

MMMMMMMMM…….actually, I think there is a clause in Bruce’s contract that states he CANNOT touch a piano in the state of NC without my presence. So don’t be surprised if the concert is cancelled. IF, somehow, some way, he actually DOES play tomorrow night, somebody, request “The Road Not Taken” in my honor, and send me a set list!

    Longest Night
    These Arms of Mine
    What a Night
    Stranded on Easy Street
Defenders of the Flag(with Molo on drums)
    Black Rats
    Prairie Dog Town
    Jacob’s Ladder/ Theme from “Shaft”/ Uncle Pen/Put a Spell on You (like Biltmo 02)
    Every Little Kiss
    Rainbow’s Cadillac/Old Playground
    Circus on the Moon
    Cartoons and Candy
    Candy Mountain Run
Walk in the Sun/Be My Girl
    Night on the Town
    Road Not Taken

Of course, not necessarily in this order…

….AND I would get to dance on stage multiple times…

…AND go backstage after the concert…

…AND go home with the band that night…

Well, well, well….. Memories of Biltmo’ Sho’ 2011……..

**Standing in line behind a naked woman holding a baby for three hours in the hot sun (at least got a good T-shirt tan!)!

**Reuniting with my BFFs Monica and Jackie. Oh, the havoc we could have wreaked had we had more time!

**Introducing Monica and Abigail to the Blue Ridge Mountains!

**Introducing Princess Abigail to the Biltmo’ Mosh Pit!

**The pre-concert wine toast with 3 bottles of Biltmore Zin and 25 of my closest friends!

**Coming close to having the SECOND fight at a Hornsby concert with the little troll in the red shirt who insisted HE was first in line (he had Security on his side, so he won this one)!

**Perusing the new BH + NM T-shirts with Jackie (Treah)!

**Being physically molested by the tall, older guy in the ball cap who stood behind me for the whole concert beating about the head and shoulders with a towel…!

**Rather enjoying being molested by the tall, older guy in the ball cap!

**Sneaking a folding chair out of audience so I could sit down in line (from 4:00-7:00) only to have someone steal it from behind my back!

**Contributing to the delinquency of neophyte Hornsby fans by passing out paper & pens for requests, then putting those
requests on stage for same neophyte fans too scared to approach the stage themselves!

**Getting to see the really imaginative requests from Monica and Jackie (not to mention my British flag with little cartoon black rats crawling all over it!) !

**Making a fool of myself looking for Dreadlock Dave BEFORE the concert (fashionably late, or hiding from me????

**Seeing Leslie and finding out she IS still alive (and kicking!)!

**Not only finding out who “hdbahn” is, but finding out he is actually an old and cherished friend! (how many brand-new friends do YOU have who gave you a front row ticket for your birthday…..love ya’!!)!

**Seeing April from Knoxville again (she is the THIRD craziest BRH fan I know!)

**Getting Bobby, JV, JT, and Sonny to sign my new shirt — Biltmo’ Sho’ 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2011. —- I’ll get you next year, Bruce and Doug!!!!

**Getting chased out of the concert venue by security (three times!) after the concert while I waited for Monica and Abigail to finish their backstage visit (without me )

**Chatting with Abigail’s boyfriend Keith Hornsby about his starting college at UNC Asheville this fall (could this mean more frequent visits by BRH during the next four years?????)

**And last, but not least, the big hug and kiss I got from my baby boy David. Honey, we GOT to quit meeting like this….and we need to do it more often!!! (I’ll send pics soon so we can see just HOW good a time we had!)

Face it, Monica. Wasn’t it worth the three hour wait in the Asheville bus station, then six hour layover in Knoxville, and who knows how long in Dallas????

    Can’t wait until next year!!!!
