ParticipantWe’re going to the Florence, SC show. I pounced early and got front row seats in the middle. Honestly I’d rather hit the show at the Biltmore, but that show hadn’t been announced. Indoors in this type of setting will be new for me, so I think it’ll be fun.

ParticipantMighty close for sure!

Have I mentioned that this song is just awesome? I really think this is Bruce’s best work since some of the stuff on Spirit Trail.

ParticipantNow to figure out which show with “I’ll take you there” to download first!

ParticipantI can’t wait for a professionally recorded version of this track or at least something Dagle pulls off of the sound board! Maybe I’m overthinking this, but I think this is the best stuff he’s put out in a long time… easily since Spirit Trail.
A radio edit of this could get him some new ears and awards. Love the chord progression…

ParticipantSorry I didn’t get a chance to join you guys for any of the pre-show festivities. The drive took a bit longer than expected due to heavy rain… we had dinner and drinks at the Wicked Weed (I highly recommend the Udderly Milkstout) and walked in about 15 minutes before the show started. It was a great show, and I particularly enjoyed I’ll Take You There. It’s fun to be surprised by something totally new! I don’t think the Orange Peel was particularly good acoustically, at least for this type of show. I don’t know if something could have been done differently at the board, but sometimes it was like listening to Bruce over a really loud speaker blaring in a grocery store… A friend of mine said that the OP isn’t really set up for a concert like Bruce… more metal and more “make their ears bleed” types of shows. I hope the Biltmo’ can get over their hippiephobia, or perhaps another venue surfaces. What’s the story on Biltmore? Bruce made one comment about it, and my wife got some back story at the bar… I thought the crowd in 08 was well behaved. Not sure how the last show there went.
We had a nice time in Asheville… stayed downtown and did a little walking this morning before we left. Met a fun group of guys that incorporated the show into a bachelor party trip… all in all a great time.

ParticipantI just bought two tickets in plenty of time before the show
… can’t wait to see ya’ll there!
My last show was the ’09 Biltmo’ so it’s been a long dry spell…

ParticipantI just noticed this on Facebook! I’ve never been to the Orange Peel – but how bad could it be? It’s going to be hard to beat the Biltmo’ in 2009 though…
Have you been there before? If you were only going to go to one show, would you pick the Botanical gardens in ATL or Orange Peel?

ParticipantI said “Biltmo” on Facebook last night, but sadly it was a request and not an announcement. Atlanta sounds like a neat venue too… but the mountains in July win out of Hotlanta any time in my book.
I’d love to go back this summer. My last (well, only real concert) was in 2009 and I need a fix!

ParticipantThank you! This brings back some great memories of my first full Bruuuuuce show! I can also rest easier at night knowing that the “Play fortunate sooooon” drunk guy is now in the digital realm forever. Of course I wanted to hear it too… I was just a little less vocal about it.

ParticipantI’m sure PDT was awesome live. I love how so many of Bruce’s studio recordings are just a jumping-off point for some really creative stuff in concert!

ParticipantWell… it’s not an early review, but here’s my shot. I bought the new CD at Best Buy on Tuesday – with a self-imposed streaming audio ban last month – so I really hadn’t heard it so far.
The CD is growing on me. Some of these songs strike me as “wonderbread rap” like Prarie Dog Town and Space is the Place – and Paperboy is just flat-out weird. Kind of a good Haloween song though…
Amazingly, Levitate is one of my favorites so far… something about the churning bass lines just beg me to crank that one. I definitely like In the Low Country – and Contients Drift is probably my top track with Invisible at the top of the list somewhere…
Like I said, it’s growing on me.
Just to give you an idea of where I’m coming from – I would be one happy dude if Bruce announced there was a third disc worth of previously unreleased tracks from the “Sprirt Trail” days – but Bruce is not one to stay in one musical groove for long, and I’m certainly better off having been on the ride with him, so I’ll keep listening to the next “change tune” and enjoying the ride!

Either way September is going to be a good month. New Bruce, Gamecocks surprising the SEC east… not sure what kind of surprise… but I bet it’ll surprise someone!

So far so good… like looking at the presents under the tree waiting for Chirstmas morning. Like I said earlier, I sampled a few seconds of several tracks, but I don’t think it was any worse than rattling the boxes!

ParticipantAm I the only one who’s trying like hell not to listen to it now? It almost feels like opening a Christmas present early! I sampled most of the tracks and really enjoyed them, but I kind of look forward to that first listen on the way out of the parking lot at Best Buy (or in this case fresh out of the mailbox if I preorder at Amazon). It’s tough though… I don’t know if I’ll make it.

ParticipantI had never heard “Big Rock Candy Mountain” before and thought it was a just a clever intro Bruce made up for CMR. After reading MVF’s reference to it as a separate song, I found this on YouTube for anyone else who wanted to hear those lyrics again… Kind of a fun tune. It never ceases to amaze me how Bruce takes me to musical and cultural places I wouldn’t otherwise visit – I can’t say that I would have stumbled on a 104 year old “hobo fantasy” song on my one!

The intro to CMR was very interesting as well… I don’t think I’ve heard that before, but it sure sounds like a place I’ll like to camp out for a few days

ParticipantWow… what a show! As I have mentioned in other threads, I have “almost” seen a couple of shows before this one – so it was nice to see a full one. Although I enjoyed the whole thing – I really thought this was almost like two different shows, with the post intermission portion flowing better and feeling more “live” – while the first half felt more like a studio recording session or something.
Continents Drift is a truely special song… I would put it in the same class as
“Fortunate Son” – which I really hoped to hear flowing into Comfortably Numb. (and no I wasn’t one of the three drunk guys yelling “fortunate son!!!” during every quiet moment of the show) Standing on the Moon was very touching as well. The Biltmore venue was wonderful… I only wish we had been able to take the time to make the pre-show gathering at the Inn. We didn’t get to Asheville until around 4:00 on Saturday afternoon. We stayed last night and then did the whole estate tour today… I hope that we’ll have the time to come up a day or two early the next time he plays there!
