ParticipantAnd I was just getting ready to go to Priceline and bid on some (non refundable) hotel room nights for Asheville… now I wonder if I should hold off.
🙄 I have a history of amost seeing Bruce. Two songs at New West Fest in ’07 before it got rained out, arrived late in Tampa in December due to Hotel issues and getting lost in highway construction between Clearwater and Tampa…

ParticipantFunny… after reading this (and posting my sarcastic response a couple of minutes before going to bed) it made me think about how I had interpreted this song in the past. Honestly I don’t think I had put a great deal of thought toward it – but after giving it some thought I think the meaning is a little more obvious…
Perhaps a lonely guy who likes to make shadow puppets on his wall because his “friend” the shadow puppet never rejects him… As bleak of a scenario as that is, I find it more comforting than the closet homosexual mastabatory urges of a guy early in the morning in a dark room. Now I can sing along and not feel weird
This reminds me of something my American Lit. professor said once. It seems that there was some piece of literature that involved a young lady… probably 11 or 12, who decided to sneak out of her upstairs bedroom one night. Her escape involved sliding down a gutter downspout, and in the process she tore her dress and cut her inner thigh. The imagary obviously pointed to some kind of innocence lost, and everyone in the literature “business” agreed that it was crystal clear what the author intended. Then, at a conference, the actual author was there… and this point came up in a discussion. He started laughing uncontrollably… long story short – he never meant it that way. It was just what it was… she just tore her dress and cut herself.

ParticipantDavid Day wrote:You sure you don’t want to slip over to the Capital One Bowl and see the DAWGS? Go DAWGS!Hi David! I hope you enjoyed the concert. Between a little traffic issue trying to get back across the bay from Safety Harbor, and a 30 minute “discussion” with the hotel manager about a daily resort fee we weren’t informed about at booking – we didn’t arrive at the Hard Rock Casino until about 8:50 this evening. So I have once again been at the gates of the promised land and denied… Honestly, I didn’t feel like spending $120 for $80 of remaining concert time… So assuming Bruce doesn’t retire or go down in a firey plane crash before I can make it to a full show, I will be there someday… I just hope he schedules something with The Noisemakers somewhere in my general area this year. As much as I’m sure I would enjoy a solo show, I think the full band would be better.
I’m pretty bummed about the whole thing since I got up at the crack of dawn to get on the road early to get there in plenty of time for good seats… but I-95 traffic, hotel managers, and GPS systems that don’t deal well with construction issues can ruin the best laid plans. 😡 Bourbon helps though…
Oh, and once a year is enough of your Dawgs, but I’ll be pulling for SEC dominance in all of the bowl games.

ParticipantI think that Bruce’s unique sound is related to the complexity of the music. As much as I love Bruce’s keyboard work, the depth of the chords from the other “Noisemakers” and the way they are all interwoven together so skillfully really make it special. The live show recordings that I have heard, and the short part of one show I saw live (rained out) really drive home how talented Bruce is at melting things together so seamlessly. And it’s even more remarkable with his “on the fly” set list system!

ParticipantI’m hoping to make the Tampa show in a couple of days myself! Since it’s general admission, I hope it doesn’t sell out before I can get there… I don’t want to buy tickets in advance since we’re driving down from Columbia, SC the day of the show, and I would hate to buy tickets and then have traffic/car/wife/whatever trouble and miss the show.
We’re actually headed to Tampa for the Outback Bowl – but seeing this concert on the tour list gave me added incentive to make the trip. To answer the OP’s question about why football teams would meet in a distant location – these are “bowl games” that occur after the regular season. The matchups are of teams that have winning records in their regular season, and are basically a reward to the players and fans – so we try to have them in nice loactions. These games also have the added benefit of giving the team and university national television exposure which helps with recruiting – as well as giving the team extra practice sessions. You may also hear “BCS Bowl Games” mentioned, which are a set of higher caliber games… with the top one deciding the national champion.
Back to Bruce – I have been a fan since the late 80’s, but my only other concert was in Boulder Ft. Collins, CO in August of ’07 – which was an outdoor event and got rained out two or three songs into the show! I was not happy, especially since I was only a few “rows” back in the standing room only crowd, having camped out there for several artists before Bruce took the stage!
