ParticipantI saw JV at the show at the Biltmore a few years back for the first time. I was very impressed by his playing style and how he looked like he was having a blast. Which I am sure that he was. The Noisemaker shows would not be the same without JV!

ParticipantSi,
As others have said, don’t worry about the site. We all hope that all goes well with your surgery and that you recover quickly. Not for us, but for yourself. You have created and maintained this site and developed friendships with many “Hornsbyheads” through the years and we will completely understand when you have to leave the site un-updated for awhile. All of us forum users will keep the cobwebs at bay until you can return.
All the best,
Larry

ParticipantWhat did I think of the Rick Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby CD?
From start to finish, it is an excellent CD. Ricky and Bruce play like they have been doing this for years. Bruce chose one of the best people in bluegrass today to record this CD with him. The bluegrass genre is well represented with some fun lively songs like The Dreaded Spoon, Crown Of Jewels, Gulf Of Mexico and even Superfreak(!). I was also happy to hear some traditional ‘grass like Across The Rocky Mountain, Stubb and Sheep Shell Corn. I know that not everyone will enjoy these, but as a bluegrass fan, I appreciated them. My only complaint about the CD is what was not on it. If you saw the CMT show Crossroads with Ricky and Bruce, you would have seen and heard some awesome renditions of Bruce’s The Way It Is, The Valley Road, The End Of The Innocence and Ricky’s version of Uncle Pen. I know that Bruce’s classics have been covered in detail on other CDs including a bluegrass version of Valley Road that Bruce made with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, but I would have loved to have had R&B’s versions on this CD. I hope that this is not the last CD that Ricky and Bruce make. Perhaps they will team up again on one another’s CDs.
At the risk of sounding corny, run don’t walk to the store to get this CD!

ParticipantExcellent work Allisa!
I could never have made the show into MP3s because I don’t have a Tivo. 😳 Now I can listen to my favorites that aren’t on the R&B CD like The End of The Innocence, The “high speed” Valley Road and Uncle Pen.

ParticipantAll of the Bruce concerts that I was fortunate enough to attend were great but a couple really stand out. For nostaglia, the concert that Bruce gave at Freedom Weekend Aloft in Greenville, SC (4th of July weekend 1993). When I arrived with my girlfriend, who is now my wife, I heard the distant strains of “Rainbow’s Cadillac”. I thought that we were late to the concert, but Bruce was on stage doing a sound check. I was too shy to go up when he got through and say hi. The show really rocked! He played a lot of stuff from Harbor Lights which was one of my favorite releases of his.
The other one was my first Biltmo’ concert in 2005. Halcyon Days was just released and I had just started listening to it. This was shortly after I discovered this website and I looked forward to hearing some of the recent tunes that I heard on the Daily Doses. The show blew me away again. For a pure fun party vibe, you can’t beat the Biltmo’.

ParticipantHere are a few of my favorites…
Sometimes I lead sometimes I follow
This time I’ll go where she wants me to go
She said maybe today maybe tomorrow
Go deep in the woods down the low valley roadWhen I was younger I saw things in black and white
Now all I see is a sad, hazy gray
Sometimes I see a narrow flash of light
Sometimes I look and you show me the wayI was always taught well, taught well
To be the strong one and keep it inside
But sometimes I sit beside the freeway
And howl out at the dark, dark sky
I might just have to go out and burn one
Have a drink or a few
Fade away in a cloudy haze of smoke
And give the old man’s best salutePixelPusher
ParticipantSi,
I love the site and can’t find much to improve upon. Your choice of daily doses and news are excellent. What I would like is to be able to connect with my fellow Bruce fans (besides the forums) with a streaming chat feature as well as more contests and polls.
Thanks,
Larry

ParticipantQuote:Bruce is peaking! Don’t know if he can top where he is now. I have some “Thoughts From a Road Scholar” which I will share when I get out of this depression.David,
Don’t be depressed about “Fields of Gray”. I look forward to your Thoughts From A Road Scholar report.
I enjoyed the show at Spartanburg.
Nice Huey Lewis reference (by the way).

ParticipantDavid and Miss Virginia,
I was at the “Spottin’ Bug” show and I was also upset that Bruce stopped Fields of Gray ( I always forget, it it “gray” or “grey”). I forgive you also and admit that I am not without fault. I made a couple of comments to people around me during the concert. I realize now that Bruce could have stopped playing because of me. Double !
I also had to restrain myself from singing along during the show. I am sure that people around me would have preferred to listen to Buce sing and not me. I reserved my singing for myself in the car.
I guess that we now know how good the acoustics at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium really are.

ParticipantI was also at the “Spottin’ Bug” show. I had to work late and I wasn’t able to meet up with y’all at the Wild Wing. I agree with Gunky about the Donald Trump song. I look forward to the tentively titled “Rich Bastid” musical that Bruce is working on. About the show, WOW! Even without the box set (which I am listening to as I write this) it was worth every penny! I loved the new version of one of my favorites, Mandolin Rain. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring paper and pen to give a setlist. I will have to rely on one of you other Hornsby-Heads for that. Also, Steve Watson was a delight and one of Spartanburg’s hidden gems! I hope to hear more from him in the future. The only bad part was when Bruce had to stop in the middle of Fields of Grey because some jerk couldn’t shut up. It totally ruined the groove, but Bruce was able to go to Shadowhand and then back to Fields of Grey. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and I hope that Bruce comes back to Spartanburg again.

P.S.: BRUUUUCE! I had to say it.

ParticipantWOW! Thanks Si for using my request! On a serious note, my thoughts are with all of my friends and distant cousins in the U.K. after this morning’s terrorist attacks.
PEACE

ParticipantHi Si! Thanks for the new forum! This is great!
I have one request. I would like to hear “The Show Goes On”. This is one of Bruce’s earliest songs that he made before he lowered his register so you may need to find an old version of it. Again, thanks for the forum.
