That’s what I shall be doing, when we get around to talking, A.J.

The next episode is now up, and will show up on iTunes soon also. This week, I’ve thrown down a challenge to the Board, if you are all keen on this idea of a conference call. Over to you…!

Thanks all – we actually did sit down to do this today, and quickly realised that it wasn’t going to work out. Look out for another ‘cast soon, though.

As for the multiple users, Skype seems to be the software of choice for such things, at least for audio setups. I’ll have a look around also. Maybe we could get a some of us on a Skype/telephone conference.

This week’s podcast with Bruce has been postponed for a short while due to technical issues… he and I have both gone down with a rotten cold!

Stay tuned for something shortly, though, and Bruce will join us soon.

David, as great as that sounds, I don’t think I have the tech gear (or the tech brain!) to pull that off!

Thanks molo3 for the kind words… I had a lot of fun with the first one. The graphic took me at least a dozen tries – If you look carefully at the skyline, it’s actually London (and is meant to be reflected in the River Thames).

Episode 2 is coming soon! Any questions, comments, feedback etc welcome.

Response has been fantastic, with a ton of questions sent my way already.

If you have any regarding the site, or requests for music to include, or anything – drop me a note.

Basically it’s like a radio show, that you can download and listen to.

Bruce is now signed up to take part, and is inviting questions from you all. So any burning issues or questions to put to Bruce, please e-mail them to me and I’ll put as many as I can to him.

Now’s your chance to get Bruce’s thoughts on your own topics, and hear the answers straight from the horse’s (the Hornsby’s?) mouth!

I’d really rather we weren’t drawn into speculation – I think the consistent explanation is that Bruce needs a break.

Don’t forget how much of a traumatc year 2009 was for the Hornsby family, and Bruce worked right through it.

The rest is well deserved, I think! (and I know you weren’t suggesting otherwise)

I found this email from Tony that shows the bond he shared with Bruce, and just how highly they thought of each other. Speaks volumes for them both, I’d say:

    Quote:
Hey Si, Great show Sunday night in Louisville, KY at the Brown Theatre. He started 7pm took a 15 minute break then played till 10pm!!! Molomolomolo’s review of it is pretty good and accurate only thing is that was Wayne Pooley hooking up the keyboard. Saw him running to the soundboard right when we got our seats I waived my program said hey Wayne! He stopped looked at me said hey Big Rumble went back to the soundboard. We had seats where we could see Bruce’s finger work on the piano perfectly!!! But I couldn’t use my camera any because it’s a theatre police no cameras and we were 25 feet away with a clear view of Bruce’s playing too! Bruce got one of my requests in end of the show for White Wheeled Limo. But before it he says to the crowd there’s a big fan of mine in these parts known as the Big Rumble he’s a big fan of mine famous in these parts then he said well he’s famous to me, this songs for him.

I saw Bruce backstage said I was changing my name to Big Humble after that song intro from him then lol There was some trouble with the keyboard on the piano which wasn’t hooked up when he came out Wayne ran down to fix it lol So Wayne was onstage with Bruce then Bruce said this is my sound man Wayne lol Wayne fixed it like the pro he is! Told Bruce I was writing a song about him he asked what it was called i said “Song (For Bruce) H” He liked the idea lol I said I know more about you than Howard Stern does lol He said I bet you do Mr. Rumble.

Bruce is taping a Country Music Television special with Ricky Skaggs for the new CD they’ve got coming out. CMT is taped in Nashville, TN going to find out when it is. Got Steve a autographed copy of Intersections from Bruce I said that’s for my buddy Steve in England he said he can not get it there Bruce said I know we’ve got to fix that! I also added a program for the show and extra ticket to it for Steve in the package, so nice care package there huh? Is he going to freak out or what when he gets that package in lol Don’t tell him about it either!!! Later, Tony

    The e-mail reads:

    Quote:
It is with deep sorrow I write to tell Bruce that Tony Merriman passed away Monday afternoon at Kindred Hospital here in Louisville, Kentucky where he has been a resident since July 2009.

I visited him a few weeks past and he was jolly as ever, on ventilator and bedridden. He had Bruce’s huge card on his bulletin board and had Bruce blaring on his CD player! And of course UK Basketball was on the television! That was Tony, not even in the face of this life challenge did he let life slip past him in any way, he made the most of everything.

Tis a sad, sad day for me, he was a great and wonderful friend, I will miss him very much.

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers, I know they would appreciate it very much too.

    Blessings, Liz Johnson Klein

    Thanks for the insight, Rich.

I would talk to Bruce about R.S. every time I we spoke, and as enthusiastic as we both were for his contributions, Bruce was insistent in the early days that R.S. needed to “find his own sound”. Sure enough, he took heed of his uncle.

I also think Bruce is striving for the same in his vocals. His inflections put the “stank” into his voice that he is so fond of, and again makes the sounds unique.

The first few tracks, especially, of Levitate are testament to both R.S.’ and Bruce’s unique sound, I think.

Beat me to it in another thread; I heard the Beatles all over Paperboy.

I thought the back end of Michael Raphael was Beach Boys/Brian Wilson also.

Cyclone has come out of nowhere as my favourite after a month of listening to the record. I hope for more collaborations with Hunter.

I heard Wilson in Michael Raphael also.

Just to clarify what you’ve been hearing on the Doses lately, I’ve been sent individual MP3s from people, and thank them for their generosity.

I don’t think they recorded the entire shows, so don’t expect to see them seeded. One show (the Warner show in DC) was captured, and is on its way to me through the mail. I’ll seed it (and find some more doses) when it comes through.

Rich’s CD tree sounds a great idea also.

    Rich,

Do you recall me telling you that i heard the Beatles in just about every bar of one of the new songs on Levitate? (And, separately, Brian Wilson at the tail end of another?)

Be interested to see if you were in agreement…
