KeymasterI was there for JV’s mini rendition of Rainbow’s Cadillac… also his “Michael Row The Boat Ashore”. Some evil so-and-so put a video of that around the internet once…
I also heard JV and Sonny sing Take Out The Trash in one of the tent shows – I forget which one.

Someone who is reasonably competent can play jazz – learn a few scales and get improvisingIn fact I think it’s the “fear of the unknown” that makes people think that jazz is something you need a phd in to be any good at it. Once you know where you can go on a jam the rest is easy.
Jazz is never going to become more accessible to the public whilst this elitist mentality prevails. (one of my favourite parts of the 3 nights DVD is telling that sax player to shut up when he starts on the ‘ooo – jazz is so studious, jazz needs years of education’ nonsense.)
ok rant over.
Looking forward to this immensely
Kind regards

Easy to those with the gift already, Dave, and those who have heard you play can attest to yours.
Those of us who can’t even bang a biscuit tin* in time can only listen in awe, though.

KeymasterI passed all of your comments and e-mails onto Bobby, who says in part:
Quote:Si – thanks so much for sending these along – always great to get feedback.Things are well and Mia is amazing, but I’m tired as hell. Got another new project in the works though, trying to keep cranking.
Thanks again – I appreciate the appreciation.

That’s a damned insult – Nick Hornby is a Gooner.
** Non-football related note: a “Gooner” follows a team called Woolwich, originally from South East London.

I don’t really expect him to. I don’t think anyone who participated in “Shadowhands” heard from him either.
A few did hear back on Shadow Hands – some indirectly, and I know he gave Kathryn Holtkamp a call.
(Rich is being modest if he doesn’t admit to Bruce picking his “Passing Through” as his own favourite…!)

KeymasterWhat do you mean by “party” with him? I’ve lunched with him plenty, and hung out with him more… is that what you’re referring to?

KeymasterRe: Any update on Si’s condition?
cgessner wrote:Si….Hope your consultation went well. Did you have the surgery yet? Would love an update on your condition if it’s possible. Please know that the Bruce community is thinking of you.
All the best….Charlie
Thanks Charlie… updates are few and far between, and are pretty boring anyway… I am due an MRI and brain scan sometime soon (when my consultant returns from holiday, so they can’t be overly concerned!!!) 😆
SIte it updated today – check out Bobby Read Appreciation week

KeymasterI still have the page commemorating your moment of fame:
(this is where you’ve seen her, David…)
Si Twining
KeymasterRich – you are positively disqualified from being a road scholar, purely on the selfish grounds that you and I have yet to make it to the same show! 😆
I’m kidding… but I do hope to see you one of these years!

…. thank you, and I hope I pass the audition….Wow! That’s impressive!
Just one question……..Have you ever practiced two hand independence on your dash while driving?
: 😆
David Day
Lake Lanier, GAI believe I have witnessed her do just that.
In fact, I’ve witnessed her get out of her car in NYC to yell at people.
The gdwoman and Carey both set the standard for road scholarship, in my humble opinion…!
(Actually, David, you’ll be familiar with the gdwoman. You’ll have seen her face – oooh, maybe hundreds of times!)

Keymasterthanks – into hospital next tuesday (22nd) fopr a consultation, then i’ll be pushing for an op ASAP aterwards.
can’t wait! 😆 😯
thanks for asking
aniother update of doses gone up today
Si Twining
KeymasterDavid – I have to ask… if Bruce said he’d play either Candy Mountain Run and Tango King for you, which would you choose?! 😆
Si Twining
KeymasterI would never object to anyone sharing the music!
Fear not, though – there should be, on average, a “daily” dose – I’ll just fill in the missing days when I’m able to do so, as I’ve done today.
Feel free to spread what you like around, though!

KeymasterI can give you a bit more detail on this after hearing back from Bruce.
Neither Ricky Skaggs, Jack DeJohnette nor Christian McBride allow taping of their shows, and since that forms the basis of most of the upcoming tour, Bruce felt that a blanket “no” would be best, so as not to raise hopes or cause any confusion.
He’s also trying out some new stuff at these shows, and would rather that it wasn’t recorded.
However! Don’t plan on a return to the old policy any time soon. If Bruce could really govern it, he’d rather that none of the old material was traded either, as he’s a real perfectionist for what he plays. Or, in his own words, “There is so much crap out there”… whether we consider it that way or not. He realises that it’s not possible to withdraw whatever is in circulation, so he’d rather concentrate on not adding to the list.
He has given an assurance, though, that BruceHornsbyLive.com is alive and well. So we have the benefit of getting the very best of what he puts out – and if he considers some of the older stuff “crap”, then we can be sure that what he sees fit to release will be a real treat. That’s not the party line, that’s just my opinion – but one based on enjoying all of the BHLive/Munck Music releases so far. Keep up the terrific work, guys!

KeymasterI’ll post them up in the next few days. Dose Day didn’t finish for me on 9th – I had contests to close and prizes to mail out.
The job here is actually to merge a few sets of answers, since different people had different ideas.
I’m onto it!

KeymasterHopefully you’ve caught the April 22 dose…
Si Twining
KeymasterSorry, I caught on a bit late for the bookmakers, but I’ll arrange another wager with him soon…
Si Twining
KeymasterI’ve posted all I was given, and thanked him for what’s been allowed in the past.

KeymasterI don’t see it as a lack of appreciation of the fans at all, Will.
Ultimately, they are Bruce’s songs to do what he wants with.
But since you mention appreciation, that works both ways. I’m not speculating on reasons why the privilege has been pulled, but Bruce asked that the recent solo tour was not taped or distributed. Some chose to ignore that. Hell, some couldn’t even respect the need to be quiet when they were supposed to be. (And that’s no knock on anyone here; it’s been an increasing trend in recent years).
If Bruce and co give us a “show for the ages”, you can trust him to make it available. I still don’t think we’re being sold short.
To not go to a show because it may be a great night that you can’t hear more than once… that seems like cutting your nose off to spite your face!
Don’t anyone forget that not too long ago, anyone who went to a show was given – for free – a box set containing twenty years’ worth of work.
I think it’s a long time before anyone should be questioning Bruce’s motives, self-interest or nature. If we’re not to tape for now, then that’s a shame… but nothing more than that.
Si Twining
KeymasterBit taken aback by some of the thoughts posted on this topic.
Really, we had a privilege – if not a gift – from Bruce for more than twenty years, that enabled us to tape his shows. Artists that allow that are few and far between, and it’s by no means a right that comes with your concert ticket.
Think about it – twenty years of archives to plough through. The concerts will continue, and BHlive.com will still remain.
I hardly think we’re being sold short.
Si Twining
KeymasterNot a great deal… the longer you pay, you get ridiculous discounts.
And if somone thinks it’s worth $3.5K when it’s expired, I reason that with a nine year “contract” in place that value will rise!
It’s not to say the site will be here for another nine years, at least with me at the helm, but it’s all in place if anyone takes over, and nobody can touch the domain name.
Si Twining
KeymasterMade me cringe – although I am suspicious why anybody would be photographing somebody moving a piano…?!
Si Twining
KeymasterI’m sure it will be. This only came out today.
