This Yankee loves it all…including the bluegrass. I’ve seen Bruce with Ricky and number of times and wouldn’t hesitate to see them again (and again….and again). :)

It seems some are hesitant to open up to it. But it’s Bruce and it’s fun and it’s lively and it’s soulful…what’s not to love?!?!

    ‘Course….I did grow up a stone’s throw from Beanblossom…

As a sum up….the show was terrific. I love the solo shows because Bruce has complete freedom to spontaneously go wherever his creative whims lead….and he always gifts us with a spectacular performance. I didn’t keep a set list, but he did several things that are new from the next record, the Broadway show and the Kobe Bryant film. Another very memorable evening!!

I’ll have pictures ready to share before long.

I am heartbroken for the entire Hornsby family in their loss of RS. I also lost my sister in an accident, and I know that the shock and the depth of pain is beyond words. My thoughts and my heart will be with the family through these next difficult days and beyond. The only comfort I can offer is that I know that when we lose those we love, they always leave a part of themselves with us. I only wish there was something more to say to lessen the pain of this tragedy.

    But David…

When you’re there, don’t you feel like you’re not old at all?

I believe, as long as we keep doing this….we can’t be old!

    That’s my story….and I’m sticking to it!

    Oh Heath…

I’m reading your post completely devastated for you. I cannot imagine being THAT close…and not making it in the door. I would have lost my mind.

Fortunately, Bruce shows no signs of retiring….and please, let’s not hear one more peep about f***y c****es.

While the band shows are incredible, I would encourage you not to pass on a solo show if there’s one near you. No, it’s not the band…but it’ pure completely, freeflowing Bruce. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Wishing you another opportunity asap….AND the best seat in the house.

Have a great time David. I came about this__close to booking a flight down there. I’m lucky Bruce is up here in the northeast somewhat frequently but even so I know I’ll be wishing I was there later on tonight. Actually, I’m wishing that right now…

Can’t wait to hear all about it!

    Hey Si –

I got mapped about 3,000 miles too far to the east. How do I get back to NY?

    David…

Glad you like it. I am really pleased with the images that I got at these two shows. In Westbury, I was able to move up to 2nd row, slightly left of center. I’ve just got to get through the next few days of family madness, then I will be busy getting some new photos posted from both the LI shows. I promise….I’ll let you know as soon as they’re up.

BTW…I’m not a professional, I just pretend to be. :) Maybe one day…..

Tuesday night at Westbury was another incredible show. They played almost 3 hours (short intermission). They had to be exhausted, the energy never wavered. It seems like Bruce is working hard to not do many repeats. He pulled out a few gems that night.

    Here’s the setlist…

    Hooray for Tom (solo)
    Harbor Lights (solo)
China Doll > Un Poco Loco (from Camp Meeting) > China Doll
    Stander on the Mountain
    Look Out Any Window
    End of the Innocence
Pete and Manny > Barcelona Mona
    The Road Not Taken

    Intermission

    Preacher in the Ring I
    Preacher in the Ring II
    Shadow Hand
    The Show Goes On
    The Dreaded Spoon > Jacob’s Ladder > Cartoons & Candy > Jacob’s Ladder
    Down The Road Tonight
    The Way It Is
    White Wheeled Limosine

    Encore
    Lucky Old Sun
    Mandolin Rain

Unfortunately, it’s my last show for this tour. As always, they left us revved up for the next time.

    MVF….and everyone –

There comes a time that all the superlative words just aren’t enough. It feels almost trite to say last night’s show was “awesome” or “incredible”. I think you all know that there really ARE no words…just a joyous feeling. The venue was tiny (425 seats) and the sound was just great. The band was tight, full of energy and Bruce and they guys played their hearts out for us. The spirit lingers…fanned to a blaze.

    Setlist…
Camp Meeting intro to Mandolin Rain done in the Ricky Scaggs album style
    Song C > Sad Moon
A new song – title was not shared
Funhouse > I Believe in Miracles > Funhouse
    Boo Radley
Every Little Kiss > Tupelo Honey
    Talk of the Town
Jacobs Ladder > Cartoons & Candy > Jacobs Ladder
    Candy Mountain Run
The Road Not Taken >Hole in the Bucket
The Way it Is > Bach variations > The Way it is
    Rainbow’s Cadillac

    Encore…
    Dreamland
    Spider Fingers

Tons of photos to sort through…but here’s one here:

I’m SO glad to read this knowing you made a LONG trip and weren’t sure about Ricky. They do an incredible show and are evolving all the time. If anyone is on the fence about the bluegrass it’s time to hop off and go see what it’s all about. It’s a show chock full of talent and energy.

    BB King’s

I just got in from New York after attending both shows with Bruce, Christian McBride and Jack DeJohnette at BB King’s. Honestly….there are no words. It was a night of beyond incredible music….and it was a thrill to be at this debut performance. I’m sure the album will be a “must have.”

The trio appeared to be having a great time all evening. I saw a lot of concentration, and a lot of smiles on Bruce’s face. We all know he’s been talking about this collaboration for a LONG time and it was definately worth waiting for….and getting on the road to see.

I’ve got tons of photos to go through and will get some posted on my website as quickly as I can.

Well David….let’s see if I qualify.

    :)

Jamestown made show #21 for me. I live in eastern PA so Bruce is often in “my neck of the woods.” I’ve seen him a number of times in or near Philly and New York. I’ve traveled to Richmond, Baltimore, DC, Pittsburgh, and now Jamestown. The furthest I’ve gone is Indianapolis….to treat my sisters to a show. This last trip, I was travelling with Elyce (gdwoman) which was especially great! I love when I get to share a show with someone of equal enthusiasm.

Every mile has been worth it….and I’m looking forward to more!

I’ve got lots of concert pics at my photo website here:

    Jamestown Show

Great reviews of an absolutely stellar EVENT! I travelled down from Pennsylvania specifically to see Bruce with the band and WOW….was it worth it. Bruce and the band….Ricky and Kentucky Thunder…and Chaka….they were absolutely on fire. We danced the night away! I’m still dancing in my heart.

I hope we will see the recording made available. It was definately a show to enjoy again.

It was a great day with a wonderful mix of music. We also enjoyed a terrific set by Jen Chapin, and discovered South African artist Vusi Mahlasela. But Bruce’s 3 hour set was just a knockout. I’m sure that the fireworks the following night paled in comparison.

    Si….

I thought about you all afternoon yesterday. When the site didn’t change after the 11am update, I was afraid things were amiss. It’s so obvious how hard you’ve worked on this incredible event and then…these crazy ISP issues. I can just imagine how distressed you must have been.

Regardless of the complications….you’ve made it easy and fun for all of us to take part in making a difference. You’ve built a real community of wonderful people here.

I want to thank YOU for a fantastic job on a very, VERY successful event. YOU created the vehicle, YOU made it happen.

    You rock, Si!!!!

I’ve been visiting once an hour since I got up a bit after 5:00. I just saw the big donation pop! WOO HOO!!

Now, I’m reading how “Murphy” was giving you quite the run in the last 24 hours. Didn’t know who he was up against, huh?!? Way to go Si!!

    Great work, amazing event!

Will Bruce be doing anything for the Jamestowne 400th Anniversary in May???? I heard Colin Campbell (pres. of Colonial W’burg) say about a year ago that Bruce would be “spearheading the music scene” for the celebration, but when I asked Mama Hornsby about it last summer (I’m still waiting for SOMEONE to ask me to tell THAT story) at The Blue Talon, she said she hadn’t heard a word about it yet. I’ll be there, if nothing else but to meet the Queen and see the Magna Carta. Sure would love to squeeze a Hornsby concert in to the week. :D

I got an alert from Pollstar that Bruce is scheduled in Jamestown on May 12.

I doubt I can make it to VA (but I’ll try). I already have tickets to the show in Princeton.

I agree…the fiddle player was the third star!

And…the fiddle is a cool variant in Bruce’s music. It’s always great to hear a new twist!

    Bruce and Ricky in NYC

I was at the show in NY last night. Paul Thorn was a wonderful warmup…great, funny, original songs! Of course, Shawn Colvin’s set was haunting and beautiful.

Ricky and Bruce set the house on fire! What a treat to see these two spectacular musicians perform together. The band was so tight and it was obvious that both Bruce and Ricky were pushing the envelope as far as it would go and having a ball doing it. I can’t wait for the cd to be released. And, the onstage banter hinted at a second collaboration….so we’ll just have to see what happens on that! They certainly left the audience wanting more!!

My husband and I will be at the show. I don’t know his schedule yet, so I don’t know how early we can arrive. It would be great to see you so I’ll keep you posted.
