Between the shimmery shirt and the rattail a decade earlier, not to mention, what was he wearing in the “Sugar Walls” vid, a muscle shirt and some RayBans? A Members Only jacket, a PCH buttondown shirt with the sleeves rolled up?

We’ve all got fashion faux pas in our closets…we ain’t laughin’ atcha Bruce, we’s laughin’ witcha! 😆

Yeah, I’m sure BH would just love to do that…go shopping, I mean. 😆

Maybe you two could present him with a love offering of B.C.’s finest rocking casual menswear at your next get-together? ;)

Shall we discuss JV’s tees, or Sonny’s do-rags, or JT’s Birks? Why does Derryberry wear that Stax shirt a lot? And what about Bobby R. — ballcap or no; discuss! 🙄 8-)

T that request photo sounds pretty funny. Bruce should have put it up on one of his collages.

Treasure Island: Small world, man…the better half’s parents retired from the Woodstock, NY school system to live in TI; she followed them after finishing univ.

Collage: It was up! (Are the old ones accessible…from a barely-cursory glance at the new off. site, it looks like only the 2 most recent are available ‘for viewing.’) I believe that, along with the breadlock canasta rasta there were pix of Ornette, Ravel, and I can’t remember right now…it was for the Lowell ’08 show. (My virgin experience, and what a great show…sigh 😆 )

EDIT: Here it be, look for the pix of Ravel and Ives at the top left, then click to enlarge…

So 4 hours is yer cut-off, huh? You’re hardcore, mang…even in my childless and single days, I’d start cryin’ if I had to drive from (back when I lived there) say, Tampa to Gainesville 😆 . Back in them days, more groups would go down Tpa/St Pete/Clearwater way, so it was awfully convenient for small shows at clubs, larger shows at theaters and halls, and of course, the Sombrero (old Tampa Stadium) for Pink Floyd, etc.

Even now, you drive 2+? That’s about the distance from here to Beantown…which I will never do again without staying over. It’s not fun slapping yourself in the face most of the drive back, even for BH…. ;)

I think most around here get where BH is coming from vis a vis reqs. for Dead covers (dare I say that most around here were BH fans and NOT Dead fans?) — save for maybe the hardcore Deadheads who just go to see Bruce for a lil’ bit o’ nostalgia trippin’? Heh. That’s a mindset that I have to actively try to empathize with; I can understand the appeal of cover/tribute groups, and I can attempt to appreciate the devotion that the old school ‘heads have, but Bruce was Bruce before filling in, and he’s still Bruce now. He’s not Bobby or Phil or Mickey or Kreutz, right? 8-)

One time though, on one of my request lists, I photocopied a pic of a cliched-looking trustafarian and added a comic-book caption of him saying “C’mon bro…play ‘Jack Straw’!” down at the bottom of said list, under my legit wishes. I wonder how many other smartasses are out there, joshing ol’ Bruce with such crap? ;)

I’m sure that no matter who opens…..There will probably be a party at the end! :D

I read ya, Dreadlock Dave, but GG points out that BH’s site has actual stagetimes, my friend….as in, “Bruce at 7 pm, Bela at 8:30 pm, etc etc.”

BTW, and take it in stride (as I’m sure you will ;) ), but dude, it’s “Bela,” NOT “Bella.” “Bela” is Austro-Hungarian male Jewish, not an Italian/Latin nickname for a young female, i.e. “Isabella” or “Izabella.” Bela Fleck, not Bella. Sorry, that’s just a pet peeve of mine, as my third bundle of combined DNA is named after (20th century mod-composer) Bela Bartok, and I usually have to correct peeps who see his name in print; like drs. and nurses, etc:

Me: “Um, no…he’s not a girl. At least last time I checked. It’s pronounced ‘Bay-lah’…”
    Embarrassed nurse/secretary/receptionist: “Oh, I’m sorry…mumble mumble mumble…

While there might be a party at the end at the Windsor Locks Summer Wind Blowin’ Innapalooza, I won’t be attending. Just can’t ever seem to get in with right peeps. And, as there are only so many hours in the day, and so many bucks I don’t feel like spending for people I don’t feel like seeing (sorry, Jaimoe, Bela, Flecktones, Gregg whom I’ve already seen solo circa 1985) and with my creeping senescence (and occupation as Mr. Mom), I must choose my partying accordingly, knowwhutahmsayin,’ Mr. Havin’ A Ball??? 😆 😈

I’m sure BH won’t care, as he’ll be hearing from me in the ever-so sophisticated and urbane confines of the Colonial…. ;)

Awfully helpful of BH to help us with our decisions, huh? 😆

Gotta admit, offering the stagetimes is sho’ ’nuff straight up of BH/management, even though it’s gonna cost ’em in terms of attendance. But hey, I understand…BH got the skills to pay the bills, but this time I will regretfully not be contributing a love offering. Unfortunate, but true. 😥

So, as I’ve mentioned in the past, I’ll be traveling the 25 meager miles from my house in SE VT to the Colonial Theatre (yes, that’s “theatre,” people, NOT “theater.” That’s how ya know it’s art… 🙄 😆 ) in Keene, NH for my first ever solo show. I hope that by next April ol’ BH is ready to play some Carter, some Ives, some Ravel, some Ornette, etc etc…’cuz that’s what I’ll be petulantly asking for. :D

Damn, looking harsh for the T and possible New Eng. dates…

For a while this afternoon, I was all about going to this date after ascertaining that the show starts at 6 p.m. and goes to 11:30 p.m. Supposedly.

Jaimoe’s side project opens, then either BH or Bela, then whoever is after, then Gregg from what I can understand. (The Guinness Goon says that for some show, BH opens for Bela…are they switching spots?)

The reserved seats, under a tent, are $78. The gen ads are apparently behind said tent, and to the sides…for $45.

Have never been to the Summer Wind, and now with a grumpy and cheap wind blowin’ in across me, I can’t say that I will make it to lovely Windsor. More of the same — just don’t wanna waste the money, when BH has spoiled us so much in the past.

This could all change as the date nears, though — I won’t be able to make the 9/3 gig at Portsmouth as well as the 10/2 show in Beantown, both for fam functions, dontchaknow. P’raps another gig will pop up between those two, udderwise I’ll be heckling Bruce at the world-famous Colonial in metropolitan Keene…. 😆

I would love to see Bruce at the Biltmo. Its where one of my favorite movies was filmed, ‘Private Eyes’ with Don Knotts and Tim Conway.
Anyways, I would love to make the 9 hour journey down south to see Bruce play at such a beautiful place, but I was looking at some of the pics that fans took of a past show and it looks like a bore fest as everybody is sitting down.
So I don’t think it would be worth sitting in a car 18 hour roundtrip to sit around while Bruce and the Makers are bustin stanky grooves to a lazy crowd.
I know there are probably a few spots on the side or back with some lone dancers but really sit down shows are drainers and usually the musicians lose enthusiasm with a stiff crowd.

I had to laugh at this for 2 reasons —

    1) I’ve looked at the pix, too…and from what I can tell quite a bit of the Biltmore crowd (despite the presence of many oldtimers from THIS list) DOES appear to be there for the refreshments, if ya know what I mean… ;)

    2) Damn, GG, you actually have the stones to ADMIT to not only liking, but having as a favorite flick of yours an offering with Knotts and Conway…I don’t know what to say, except for “Bravo, sir!” 😆

In the NE, I can’t say that I’ve ever been to a BH show that featured a lame crowd…searching, searching…maybe the one with the most potential to be lame, but that failed in lamitude, was The Egg; even there, though, peeps were busting moves in the aisles and narrowly avoiding falling down the somewhat precipitously angled steps…(Much of the bad mojo from me re. this venue is that there just ain’t nowhere good ’round there to get some eats and drinks. They rape you for brownies and Guinness in the Egg itself; outside they have security, well, ’cause it’s the cap. Otherwise, you can drive a bit and compete with the locals for parking, free popcorn, and overpriced beer at any of the pubs. :( )

Lowell is tops for summer shows, at least when it ain’t raining. Even with townies camping out and giving you the evil eye as you toe a towel thrown down at 8:55 a.m…. 🙄

At Foxwoods, BH fomented a dance revolution which “security” struggled in vain to contain. P’raps another venue with possible stifling capabilities was the Berklee Performance Center, but I’ll be damned if that hall isn’t one of the best places to see a show. It’s a cliche, but seriously people, each seat in the house looked to be awesome. I can’t complain because I had a 2nd row seat on JT’s side, but everywhere in the theater offered a great seat. Not to mention that, being in Beantown, the townies were screaming requests out; a verrrrrrrrrry vocal crowd. Not much dancing, but lots of comments and such…

Just finished listening to it today, still processing BUT here is my overall review (always subject to change in the upcoming months 8-) ) —

    — Disc 1 is very good. “Defenders” rocks, and BH’s falsetto back-and-forth is hilarious. “Bobby/Catenaires/Talk/Charlie” is awesome, “What The Hell” always tickles me, the Buff’ “Limo” is smokin,’ and the re-mastered “Doctor” sounds even better than the freebie version.

    — Is “Circus” from Lowell ’08? The song begins with the same so-far unnamed Americana tune that BH began the song with at the Aladdin in ’04 and that the dude from our board here requested that BH do in Lowell.

    — Wet Blanket For Ya: I’m not rilly rilly a fan of disc 2, outside of “Swan” and “Candy Mtn,” which more than justify their roles. Excellent tunes, great versions. But…why did BH cut right in from (the not on disc “Jacob”) to “Cartoons”? Doesn’t work. I suppose that BH didn’t want another “Jake” on this live one. Despite the Barber intro, that version of “Gonna” just don’ta work for me. “Good” is a bit overplayed, as is “Resting.” “Dreamland” with its Derryberry 12-string solo at the end is kinda blah. The novelty of “Line” appearing is cool, but the song is average. And, I know that it was interesting to have BH try something new, but the dulcimered versions of older tunes like “Shadow”…swing and miss.
    Sorry, that’s just how I feel, man…

So, all in all, a little bit better than average…I dunno, IMHO, just good when it coulda been great? 😳 😥

I was considering saving up funds for the upcoming Jam Cruise that happens in 2012…Jan 9-14th. Anyone ever went on one..worth the money? This the first time Bruce and the band ever been on one? Just the first time I’ve noticed one, but hey I’m not a road scholar.

Honestly its two of my favorite things…a cruise, which I’ve always wanted to take, and secondly a Bruce show…both at once..hard to decide whether I should or should not??

Sounds like you’ve answered your own question; Hornsby and a cruise. Well, there ya go… 😆 (Hold on — how could a cruise be simultaneously a favorite thing AND something you’ve always wanted to take? Unless you mean a cruise with Bruce, and that you’ve already been for a cruise without Bruce :? …)

I’ve never been on one, but have thought about it. The timing and the expenses have never really worked out, and I think that I’d be walking around humming either “The Love Boat” theme or that horrible Celine tune from “Titanic” the whole time. ;) Plus, I like to go home after a show, not back to a bunk…but hey, that’s me! :P

It’s a good opportunity for BH to wow the potheads and trustafarians that I understand populate said cruises. Another reason that I’ve been hesitant to attend one o’ dem’ cruises, mon, know what I mean, kind bro’? Too old to do that shit. Would be another thing ENTIRELY if was getting paid to play…

Between that and Bonna, BH and The NM will be showing many unconverted how it’s done. It’s just that a few of us older younguns won’t be able to swing it…hope you can, BTweets! 8-)

    Ah yes, p’raps I shouldn’t have posted while trying to watch the rain-delayed Sox/Angels game. A bit cranky… ;)

The tix for the Summerwind Came Blowin’ In show are nowhere near as much as some of those for the EC tour with Lobos opening were; the better half was looking into tix (as she was in Los A during a swing of said tour) and she came back saying “hell, no.” So, a lil’ bit of “late-night exag” there…

(Aside: What was the deal with the Eric Johnson and 2 Other Dudes Unplugged show? I don’t think that I even heard of that one..)

As for Allman, I get his stature and the tour for the new TBone-produced solo disc. I don’t begrudge him or anyone that (big of me, huh 🙄 ), but he just ain’t my bag. I’m just wary of driving from Bratt-area to Hartford for a little bitty Noisemaker set.

Bruce usually spoils us North Elitist-coasters with all kinds of dates — for instance, in Fall ’09, we got (what I can remember off of the top of my carping head) NYC, Boston, Portsmouth, Albany, Great Barrington (West MA), and Bridgeport. That doesn’t even count the gig at Foxwoods in March of that year, or the gigs in ’08 (including the monster Lowell performance). $35 to $50 to for at least 2 hours of prime rockitude from BH. Spoiled, I tells ya!

I’m hoping that a few more shows get slotted in somewhere around that Windsor Locks Airport Sinatra Tune In The Middle Of Nowhere date, otherwise I might ending up eating my words and whine… :P

All summer long, we sang the song
And then we strolled that golden sand
Two sweethearts and the summer wind…

After Mac’s self-inflicted disintegration into a human loop of “I’m not here to talk about the past” at the hearings, ESPN caught up with La Russa — he said “I believe in Mark” and walked away. What a douche.

    From the article —

“This trip to Houston features Hornsby backed by his decade-old band, The Noisemakers. The ensemble’s most recent album, Levitate, is a return to the structured adult-contemporary fare Hornsby began his hit-making career with. Onstage, however, this crack group of musician’s can make any facet of Hornsby rich musical progression come alive…”

For me, the author of this admittedly enthusiastic piece hits a potential inside the park home run and flops rounding 3rd. I think that the above paragraph does all the damage: 1) The Noisemakers are older than a decade, by at least 1 year. 2) “Levitate” is “a return to adult-contemporary”? Really??? When was the last time you heard MOR that sounded like “Levitate”? And, again, 3) I HATE to be pedantic (not really, sarcasm 😆 ), but any grammatical error sets me the hell off — a “crack group of musician’s”? A “musician’s” what?

I can appreciate the effort, and Treah, I certainly, greatly appreciate you posting this (any read of BH is a good read, usually…) but the author doesn’t even mention the “Bride.” That’s just irritating. Kinda like me, sometimes. ;)

Should the author get a few extra points for bringing up Sheena? 😆
