ParticipantWell, uh yeah, but DD, that would mean that someone besides yourself would have to watch “All About Steve”…which earned lovable Sandy a Razzie for worst performance of ’09 (she’s also considered a front runner for an Oscar nom. for “Blind Side”; she could potentially win both!).
No thanks! 😆
BTW, the musical score for “Steve” was written by Christophe Beck, according the the IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0881891/fullcredits#castBut now that I read some of the reviews, I’m noticing something interesting — there’s quite a dichotomy goin’ on between the reviewers — cliched, but nonetheless, they either love it (someone actually says that the film is similar to modern Brit satire 😯 ) or they hate it (trash, nauseating, with a few people saying that they didn’t like Sandy’s hair 🙄 …gotta tell ya, if I don’t like the actress’ hair, I don’t watch a movie!
).
So you really got me changed around on this, thanks!
Netflix queue, here I come. (And yes, I’ll pay close attention to the score for the Hornsbyesque Hornsbyisms…)

ParticipantWow. Color me impressed.
Just watched “Dad.” I can’t even begin to explain how good this film is. Many layers to this cinematic onion, fer shur.
Disgusting, nauseating, revolting, deceitful, shameful. And those are just the protagonist’s good qualities! 😆

ParticipantWow. That was a quick response, Speedy….. 😯
I diss the “Snakes” as a former BIG Rush fan, now an ‘historical appreciator.’ So take it easy on me 😆
I saw the “Vapor Trails” tour at Manchester and enjoyed it thoroughly, as I did the album of the same name. I just wasn’t digging on S&A.
Don’t know just how big a fan you are of Geddy, Alex, and Neil, but some of my fondest concert memories are of their ‘spring training’ jaunts to FL, where I’m from. “The Fear Trilogy” dude, know what I’m sayin’?!

ParticipantHey, speaking of Rush….see the other non-Bruce post about Steely Dan…
I thought that this album was terrible!
And I know that this post is almost 3 years old, but it’s my first time seeing it. Pardon moi… 🙄

ParticipantI was WAYYYY into the Dan (heh, not the other way around, fortunately…pun intended 😆 ) in high school. Since then, however, my appreciation for them just hasn’t been the same.
IMHO, they are the Rush of the jazzish pop scene. And they almost fit Bruce’s description of a ‘nostalgia band’ perfectly, new albums or not. IMHO again, and no offense to any of y’all who be still entranced by the Dan.

ParticipantSo about a month ago I revisited the disc. I’m a bit more entertained by it now, and the new lil’ 4-month
old rocker just loves to take his nap to it, so it’s, as they say, all good….T

ParticipantDecent review, but still…reading it, I kinda wanted to give the dude a virtual slap.
Gotta feel for “music critics,” even those that write for a Berkshire mtns. paper… 😆

ParticipantHeh. Yours too, huh?
(Don’t let my current location fool you. I’m not from VT, originating from a cowtown just north of Tampa, Flurda. I realize to some that ain’t so bad, or good, FL south of the Talla-Gainesville book-learnin’ bordur, but still…)
What did Bubba say? “I feel yore pain…” Is it Colbert that said “Reality has a well-known liberal bias”?
I tell my family: “Hey, don’t be mad at me. I got my values from you!” 😮 Yes, they give me the side-eye. I just could never suffer cognitive dissonance gladly. Only harmonic dissonance.

What — yer fam ain’t “Simpsons” fans, huh?
Sorry about your recent domestic development, what with the parents showing you the door and the brother giving you the seldom-seen but much feared “side eye.” You can blame it all on me.
Or Hornsby. That’s it, it’s all HIS fault. I recommend that they sue for defamation of beloved national myth.

ParticipantSo….BH was involved with yet ANOTHER tribute?! 😆 I wasn’t aware of this! I’ve never heard him speak of this one on boots and/or Muncks…
That said, the cd does look interesting, but my very cursory online search might suggest it’s out of print. I could be mistaken, but if so…eBay!
Pretty cool that Parsons has such high praise for BH’s all-around sound. It must be harder to mic up pianos than I ever thought…being one of those amp’d people and all.
The Parsons connex makes me wanna try to spark one of those insufferable “6 degrees o’ ” thangs, only with Hornsby, not Bacon. I’m sure that’s NEVER been done before, right? 🙄

I’d never heard of that one, but there it is, listed as “Stay,” aka “Sleeping Dogs,” aka “Sleeping Dogs Lie.”

He seems like a swell dude, I just couldn’t git wit’ “Shakes.” But he has directed “Crank Yankers,” “Jimmy Kimmel,” and “Chappelle Show,” so he does get props for those, and esp. the latter.

I’ll second that emo-notion 😆 I just realized the other day that I’ve seen BH 4 times in the past 15.5 months (a frequency that for moi rivals the early 90s Fishbone shows I managed to see in about the same amount of time). An embarrassment of Hornsby riches for us up here in the decadent Northeast.
Keep it coming, Horny….
BTW K, nice pix. Thanks for the link!

ParticipantGuinnessGoon wrote:You had to be there to really enjoy hearing Bruce say ‘Bruce Hornsby’s a fag’.Maybe we should all write/email/tell in person/or whatever and tell Bruce that he should make every show available on sbd for download. Alot of money would be made and alot of fans would be happy.
Alot of bands these days record every show and make them available for download on soundboard. Bruce should jump on board and do the same. Audience recordings hardly come out good enough as BH’s vocals always come out too distant IMHO. Hopefully alot of shows from this tour will come out on sbd. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.Wish I woulda been there for the fag bit. It does sound gigglish…
Re.: the every show available for download — didn’t I read somewhere that BH sez he’s become more perfectionist in his old age, so that now not every show will make the cut, not like every show did in the past, but anyhoo…
This seems to be born out by the lack of shows released since the “golden years” (or halcyon days, if you will 😆 ) of ’04-’07. (An aside — whatever hap’d to that “Best O’ ’08” we were told about? Not to be a greedy nagger, but sheesh!
) Again, not like every show from those years was made available, but quite a few were. Also, BH’s fall ’09 taping policy (letting fans tape, now he doesn’t have to release).
Plus, if he did release them, would he use Munck again? Urg. This link’s broken, not all of the show downloaded, need to get a hold of Customer Service? Good luck with that…
Yeah, I know that most of us would purchase quite a few, so go figure.

Participant2 hours seems to be the norm for this tour. Whether or not it’s the venues might just be coincidence. The Biltmore must be an exception, but without re-perusing the dates this fall, I can’t be certain enough to hazard a guess. The Berklee show was 2 hours (I would be surprised if they had a strict limit), as was the Egg show — not hard for me to see that the Egg would be strict. Nice theater, decent sound (although a little low in volume…speaking of, let me digress: I will think twice about seeing another show at the Egg. The Egg, for those of you who don’t know, is smack dab in the cap. district, with no bars, pubs, or restaurants in the area, meaning that you have to drive out of the hangaresque parking area, around, up and down, here and there, to find someplace to have a beer and some grub. Lame. Anyhoo…) but somewhat foofy and not really a place to get yer groove on.
Wow, you got all 7 (!) requests, huh? Good for you. I got 1 at the Lee Berk (“Here We…”) and 1 at the Schmegg (heh)(“Drift”), although the latter show also featured the rockin’ “Talk/Charlie” that I req’d at Lee Berk…some peeps say BH pays attention to his requests and notices the peeps who ask for said tunes, but I’ll need more evidence to make that jump.

Participanttgreene wrote:Where was it listed as a second MA show? I know the setlist on the homepage has it as such which I assume Si will fix. Was it listed somewhere else as a second show?Yeah, at the top of this page…scroll up! 😆
I was checking the site as more reviews/setlists rolled in and I saw the Nat. Theater in G. Barr. MA listed once (10/06/09 — a show I considered going to but didn’t), then the D.C. show, then agin’ (one mo’ ‘gin) with the Great Barrington Reef…I thought that I was indeed taking crazy pills
but you and careyon both stated that it was the Atlantic City show.
Such is the self-correcting (wiki)nature of the Bruuuce board.

ParticipantGlad I didn’t see this show. Would’ve been pissed.
Plus, I was mighty confused that it was listed as a 2nd Great Barr. MA show…
😆 So I wouldn’t have been there anyway…

Well, I guess you told me! 😆
In my very subjective view, the Berklee Perf C and the Egg were not very conducive to gittin’ yer groove on. Also, the chosen setlists tended to be a bit more introspective and sedate, with one venue (the former) being very intimate and the other (the latter) being more ‘theaterish,’ despite BH stating at that show (what Kat had previously said) sarcastically “So I guess you guys want to hear the hits?” with many a person saying “no.”
Foxwoods, even with theater seating, had plenty of room for peeps to bum rush the stage, and had the added attraction of BH enticing/inciting the dancing masses: “Hey security, let the people dance” or some such. Lowell was general admiss. and so was only subject to the grumpy townies and their lawnchairs
Have fun, and bust a move for all of us who were/are repressed,
T

ParticipantI forgot to add — good luck with your venue and “dancing.”
http://www.carnegieconcerts.com/eventpe … asp?evt=13
I could be wrong — wouldn’t be the first time — but this place doesn’t appear to be a mega version of Twister crossed with Dance Fever.
I mean, seriously, the Carnegie Library Music Hall? Which book did you check out before the show? 😆
Be sure to git yer groove on, Guinness. Just remember — sshhhhhh! You ARE in a library! Named after the Carnegies, no less!
BTW, check out that description of BH — “former Grateful Dead accordion player.”
I guess they forgot about that big black and white flat thing on the stage that BH would occasionally sit in front of… 🙄
T
Takavl
ParticipantPerhaps you ought to complain to BH’s agent for booking such venues?
Where I went:
Berklee Performance Center: Very small, intimate. Not a lot of room for booty-shaking to the stank. However, many a punter was yelling out a request.
The Egg: Not much space up front, a bit of room at the sides, not too much. A few dorky people got up to jig off-time spasmodically late in the show…but again with the vocal crowd.
However, I will say that I was witness to the Spring Dance Party Insurrection ’09 at Foxwoods (lotsa room up front, complete with ushers vainly trying to repress the jiggly masses) and the Lowell SummerStage Groove Invasion To Fill The Stage ’08.
I do believe it might truly (I truly understand?) have to do with the size of the venue. And the time o’ the season. At least in the N.E. You know, as understated and stoic as we are reputed to be. 🙄 Especially in a venue where there’s no room to dance.
Oh well. 🙄

ParticipantThanks Jessica!
Nice review, good setlist. That make me jealous!
I guess I could’ve driven — I know the area well, lived on the F’fld/Brdgpt. line for 2 years — and in fact I did joke to the better half that I was going, only to receive the 👿 glance, which is much worse than the side eye or even the evil eye…as I’m sure some of you know from your own experiences… 😆

ParticipantOK, guys and gals, I’m gonna need a bit more peer review for both content and order, but I’ll still step up to the plate with possible swings and misses…who woulda thunk that I’d have more trouble with my memory? 😆
Insert, rearrange, correct, delete where you must —
— Sad Moon
— Song F? C? (I sometimes have trouble naming the piano instrumentals 😳 )
— What The Hell
— ‘Song I Couldn’t Remember The Name Of!’ Shameful, I know!
— Down The Road
— Mirror On The Dulcimer
— I Truly Understand The Dulcimer
— Snoop Dogg Dulcimer Town
— Black Rats
— Continents
— Lost Soul
— Talk of The T>The Other One>Talk>Charlie, Woody>Talk
— Way It Is (again with the quasi-ska)
— Valley Road (‘regular’ with Coltrane)
— Low Country
— Jacob>Spell>Jacob
encore
— Across The RI think that that’s it, but I could be wrong!
Running time, again, 2 hours. Is that the norm for this tour? Limited sample size for me, I know — Albany and Boston — but I’m just curious.
Highlights? “Talk of the Town,” fer shur. I believe that it was “The Other One” in there, but I must’ve mentally checked out for a minute during the tune….regardless, I hadn’t seen that one done live yet, so yeehaw! “Continents” was great, and my first “Soul” also. I would’ve felt special for us all in Albany re. the dulcimered “Mirror” but alas, I see that Port’s Mouth got it first. Still, a rib-tickler to see a semi-proggy pop tune done on such a quintessential instrument of Americana…phew. 🙄
Liz, I think that I was in the elevator with you, but by the time I figured it out (“Hmmmm, is it her? Is it not her? Boy will I be embarrassed if it isn’t” etc etc), you were gone like a gossamer breeze!
K, I looked for you but didn’t see any whirling, spinning, forces of nature (except for this one doofus near my seat during “Valley” 😯 )…so ladies, maybe next time. I shirked my normal carnation for an all-black ensemble — black shirt, black shorts, black pull-over windbreaker — because that’s how I feel on the inside…T
Takavl
ParticipantK —
Will do. Will you be as you are in your acct. pic? Or if I see a whirling dervish a la the cover of “Here Come…” is that you, as rumor has it?
As for moi, I’ll be sitting in the lobby wearing a pink carnation, an ascot, and a smoking jacket while perusing a copy of Popular Mechanics…

ParticipantThanks for the peer-review, L. I’m a bit upset at myself for forgetting “Place” and “Defenders”….!
A funny bit I just remembered — after “Spider>Q&A” and right before doing “Way” BH engaged in one of his gently snide asides about his “hits” “fans” (sorry for the quote condescension, but I couldn’t resist). He mentioned that Ornette Coleman had played down the street from the Town Hall gig Saturday night and wondered aloud about Berklee’s appreciation for Ornette, getting a fairly loud response. Then he segued into a semi-Southern yahoo voice with “Play that song, that song I know!
All he’s been doin’ is playing some Gary Coleman song!” 😆T
