ParticipantAn interesting SCKBSTD tidbit from Facebook:
“Get a poster signed by Bruce! If you like the world premiere poster (see Thursday’s FB update), don’t forget that you can get a poster signed by Bruce as one of the perks for supporting the project. Check out our Indiegogo page now to learn how.
SCKBSTD A New Musical by Bruce Hornsby — IndieGoGo

Part of the American Soil Project premiering at The Virginia Stage Company January 2011.”The poster looks great-I’ll try to post an image of it-when I figure out how to do it…

ParticipantT,
I knew you were pullin’ my leg.
If I were really trying to define Facebook for someone,I hope I would write something more detaile & eloquent.
The “explanation” I gave was my (very) feeble attempt at humor.
Wow,your life is certainly busy…All I can say is I hope it isn’t so busy that it stresses you out,but busy enough to be interesting & rewarding.
I know what you mean about Twitter. I like reading people’s humorous tweets, but I haven’t posted there in months.
I’ll keep my eye out for more obscure clips;I’ll even attempt to be a better Board member & post the links!

ParticipantT.,
“Facebook” is one of many “social network” websites. The social network website trend has become nearly as popular as one of its predecessors-the Pet Rock. 😆
Actually, I like Facebook. It’s a good way to keep in touch with people from this community when there isn’t a lot of Bruce-related news to talk about.
I empathize with you about involvement in (or on) the internet. I’ve been making an effort to cut back on my computer time & spend more time in the real world myself.
I would write more, but I must go harvest my virtual potato field before it goes to waste…

ParticipantThis was on the Bruuuce.com Talk Of The Town podcast Facebook page.I guess we Facebook fans should have passed it along…
Thanks for sharing the link!

ParticipantI don’t have the answer on the chord progression. Next time I’m near a piano,I’ll check it out!
Thanks for the compliment,David. There’s only one problem-I was checking out Bill Watrous’ website & I saw a post from you saying HE was your favorite! (Which “daily dose” did I borrow that joke from?)

ParticipantDavid Day wrote:I was watching the comedy “All About Steve” over the weekend…..and, whoever wrote the musical score, incorporates some Bruce in it several times!Check it out! In the “Davidian style”, what song is that?
:
I finally saw the movie this weekend. ( By the way, good ears,David, few people would have noticed the “Hornsbyesque” music.)
I narrowed my guesses down to 2 songs-both of them begin with the letter “S.”
After much deliberation,my answer is…”Stander On The Mountain.”
(Footnote-Favorite quote from the movie: “Who wants to be normal?”)

ParticipantMVF wrote:Okay, so I came into this late, but….Oh, LadyS, yes, yes, yes, Bruce’s music is sexy. Moreso the live stuff than the studio music, but I definitely see what you are saying about Harbor Lights. I think one of his sexiest studio tunes is These Arms of Mine.
SMP…I’ll “vouge” for you anytime….I’ll even “vouch” for you, too! Hey, I thought it was bad that, after dancing onstage at the Bruce/Ricky show in Raleigh, Ricky accused me of stomping his “gitar” out of tune, but at least I kept my clothes on, didn’t I , Treah?????
Oh, it’s good to be back
Maybe THAT’S why “These Arms Of Mine” is on my Bruce Top Ten list…
MVF- I think it was the combination of your clogging and the other lady’s “flatfooting” on stage that stomped those instruments out ot tune! 😆 And yes,you did keep your clothes on. And by the way, welcome back.

ParticipantVictor,
It’s really great to hear from you. We’ve missed your presence here on the Board.I hope the events keeping you away from the board are positive-if not, I sincerely hope things take a turn for the better.
I’m also intrigued about Bruce’s “next” jazz record. No matter which styles he decides to employ, the results will be lively.

ParticipantLady S: An interesting question! I must confess, when Someone says “sexy music,” I think more along the lines of Barry White.(That reference REALLY shows my age…). That’s one of the many reasons I love this Board-the members always find creative ways to look at Bruce’s music.
I was all set to write about Bruce’s jazz influenced music and the origin of the word “jazz,” but I found errors in my research, so that witty (or boring)
. repartee on that subject has been put on hold…
Speaking of witty repartee, mary & molo3, you two have elevated it to an art form on the Board!
Mary, Are you sure Bruce wasn’t playing What A Time when you crawled on stage? That song mentions removing some clothing, doesn’t it?
. By the way,I’ll vogue for you, too;but I’m not really sure anyone wants to see that…
Milo3, A meet up for the premier of SCKBSTD is a great idea! I’ve already looked at bus fares & hotel rates, now I’m off to see if Amtrak has anything to offer.

Bobby Reed’s bass clarinet solo just flat out kicked, and the whole band was merrily tagging along with where he and Bruce took the whole thing. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!Sounds like a good one! I’ll have to look around my collection and see if I can dig it up.

ParticipantMegan,
please forgive us for overlooking your beautiful, inspiring contribution to the podcast. Was this oversight due to spring fever or the sugar high from enjoying too much Easter candy? No,it was because we were wrapped up in our own silliness….We promise,it won’t happen again!

ParticipantThanks for the information! I watched the Bruce portion of the broadcast-very educational. I enjoyed how the instructor illustrated the various types of chords Bruce and other musicians use.

ParticipantNot so fast,molo3!
I have a feeling the women will catch up on the scoreboard during the next podcast.
You’re right about the 2nd podcast,it’s excellent. And the “shout-outs” are well deserved.
Thanks,Si for brnging this great idea to life.

Mary,
If you stop by molo3’s house in your Easter Bunny suit, be sure he & David know it’s you. I wouldn’t want to hear of any unfortunate grilling accidents over the holiday weekend.Jackie
Looks like I’ll have to summon my men to the border to keep you from sneaking in this week. I won’t have you ruining my sunshine-filled week!
The Easter Bunny knows it’s not safe to stop by my house by now. David and I will fire up the grill to serve as a warning! 😆

ParticipantMVF,
I know what you mean about cooking more at home now. We’re doing that more these days too.
I sure wish I’d heard Swan Song this morning. Pleasant surprises on TV are a rare occurrence now.
Monica,
Sounds like you have a fun-filled summer in store!Jackie
treah
ParticipantGlad you’re OK,MVF. Monica is right you’re irreplaceable!
I didn’t hear it either because the TVs in the office building break room where I work were tuned to Headline News…
When I’m listening to music (usually Bruce, of course
) on the way to work each morning, I know the other passengers on the city bus think I’m weird. I’ll tap my hand or foot to the music. I was listening to the Ricky and Bruce version of Super Freak this week and ended up grinning from ear to ear.
MVF-peeling potatoes & onions…were you making hash browns? -Yum!

ParticipantFrom pcmag.com:
“Definition of: podcast
(iPOD broadCAST) An audio broadcast that has been converted to an MP3 file or other audio file format for playback in a digital music player. Although many podcasts are played in a regular computer, the original idea was to listen on a portable device; hence, the “pod” name from “iPod.” Although podcasts are mostly verbal, they may contain music, images and video.
Just like news feeds, podcasts are made available to people via a syndication format. Users install a media aggregator program in their computers such as iTunes or Juice. Also called a “podcatcher,” the application captures the audio feeds from the Internet for downloading to the music player. See syndication format.
Podcasting Everything
Originally conceived as a way to listen to audio broadcasts, podcasting evolved to include any kind of audio as well as images and video (see photofeed and vidcast). Electronic slide shows are created as podcasts (see enhanced podcast), and “sound seeing” is the audio recording of a person’s experiences when traveling. Some museums make audio tours available as podcasts, and art students and professors create their own unauthorized and often controversial narrations of famous works. See autocasting, punchcasting and learncasting.”Hope this helps!
