ParticipantI can’t help but think there is more to the reasoning behind the lack of concerts than Bruce is letting on. It just seems so un-Hornsby-like to cancel a string of west coast dates, cancel a European tour, then not tour in 2010 for three totally separate reasons.
Anyway, I’m going to miss the shows greatly. I’m so lucky to have seen him at Bay Days as well as in Richmond in ’09. Fantastic shows… especially the show at The National in Richmond.
I hope all is well in Hornsbyland and am still hopeful that some of the ’09 shows will turn up on the brucehornsbylive site.

ParticipantBruce talked about this at the Richmond show… the show was sold out and a total party atmosphere. He said he’d like to come back again without the seats next time. Of course, everyone was standing for the last third of the show anyway.

ParticipantDoes this beat sound familiar?

ParticipantTAKAVL thanks man! Today’s forum hero!
This is the Bruce album I’ve been waiting for. This is the closest a studio album has ever come to capturing what Bruce does live.
The 4 opening songs are absolutely killer!
Si, it would be a crime if Bruce doesn’t bring back Wharf Rat to play with Continents Drift. Continents>Wharf Rat>Black Rats anyone?
I hear traces of the great James McMurtry in Prairie Dog Town… you know… if he did hip hop.
CYCLONE!!! WOW! Bruce rehearsed this with The Other Ones (how long ago was that??). I guess this song needed some time to grow and mature. IT WAS WORTH IT!!!
Something from BSF needs to be played with Space is the Place… Place in the Sun??
I was wondering what Bruce was gonna do with the “loves our president” lyric in Low Country with Obama in office now… he made sure there was no confusion!
Horses, hogs, and chickens and dogs!trent
ParticipantMan the setlists on this tour look FANTASTIC. Good to see Bruce and his band giving Superfreak the Noisemaker treatment.

ParticipantTweety,
Bruce mentioned on his guestbook that he was trying to put together a holiday collection like he did last year of some live songs he performed with the Noisemakers over the Summer. Keep an eye on the official site.

Bruce, What’s the name of the jig that you played as an intro to “Circus On The Moon” in Portland, OR on 11/20/04 and again in Lowell, MA on 8/14/08? Thanks, Dave
Bruce’s Reply:
It’s the theme from the Colonial Williamsburg movie “The Story of a Patriot.”trent

ParticipantThe decoder is not needed if you have an audio player that will play FLAC files. Winamp will play FLAC files and can be downloaded at http://www.winamp.com/

ParticipantI had to set my ad blocker to treat the music file as an ad so it wouldn’t play, but that’s just me. I enjoy the other features of the site so much that the music would be worth it… even if it did wake my roommates up at 3AM some nights.

ParticipantSo I check for Bruce related news today and see this…

Do you know where your Bruce is!?
trent
ParticipantI’ll be there…. BayDays. Bruce, and Brews… the 3 B’s of this weekend!

ParticipantI noticed one of Rich’s posts talked about “Gold Row” seating for the concerts for $5… It looks like you get to sit in a chair (booo) right in front of the stage (cool) and there is a special “refreshments” section for the gold row (cool). I don’t know how early you’d have to get to the show on sunday to nab one of these coveted passes… what do you think?

ParticipantThis is the similar song that I know of…

ParticipantAnother Dave on the forum eh?
I don’t know the name of the tune, but I thought it was catchy enough to try to learn how to finger through it on my keyboard.
Others can take a shot…

ParticipantI’m sure most of the watering holes in downtown Hampton will be absolutely packed during the festival, but for the brave there is the appropriately named Taphouse. It’s located in the southern end of the festival area on Rich’s map. There are 30-40 microbrews on tap (I’d be shocked if some variety of St. George isn’t among them). Failing that, there is Goody’s which is practically next door to the Taphouse. Goody’s is a smaller narrow joint that features the St. George as well as cheap Pabst.
I’ve only been to downtown Hampton a handful of times so I’m sure I’m leaving some great places out…

ParticipantI have a Noisemaker tease of it somewhere. I recall a guy in the crowd requesting it as a joke and the band played a bit of the intro – JT’s organ is the main part I remember. I don’t know what show it was from and I don’t have it notated on any setlist. Others probably have the show since I got almost all of my shows off bt.etree, but I’ll shuffle some live Bruce on my Zune and see if it comes up.
I’m sure you have the Zappa cover. Ludwig Von 88 had one of the more interesting covers I’ve heard. I also think I have a marching band recording of it somewhere… if you’re into that sort of thing.

ParticipantAccording to his forum profile he popped in for at least a little while on Tuesday.
Things are a little slower right now in the Bruuuce world anyway after a busy 2007… Si deserves some time to do his own thing without having to worry about babysitting the site. Hope all is well.

Lake Lanier, GAActually I think you are on to something! That’s the Ornette Coleman tune… I was was watching an interview with Branford Marsalis on a DVD and he was talking about how artists like John Coletrane, Ornette Coleman, and several others would never have made it today in the music business. Their sound was so new that it took 5 years before people caught on. Today almost any band who doesn’t catch on and have commercial hits within the first 6 months of its first album is cut. There is no more artist development period giving talented artists time to grow and build a loyal following.
