:
MVF has had some great T-shirts ideas in the past! For example, MVF could naturally be “Miss Virginia Former”, Rich could be “Mr. D.E.” in the corner, Byan could be “Mr. B.M.O.C.”, and daverich could be “Mr. P.E.” 😆 I could be the “Tango King”, Trent could be the “Country Doctor”, Si could be the “Big Rumble”! 😆 Which leaves “Spider Fingers”, “Hot House Ball”, and “Swing Street” open for your imagination. 😆 😆 😆
You get the picture! Who should be what?
:
I claim “Tango King”!

Lake Lanier, GAIt’s funny you say that David… the other day I was on the Virginia DMV website looking to see what license plates were available and one of the plates I looked at was…..

ParticipantI’ve only been to Hampton Bay Days once, but I BELIEVE that the concerts there are free and totally open to the public. Bay Days is sort of a block party/lawn party/festival put on by the city of Hampton every year.

ParticipantSo it looks like the link to the mp3s is dead. Bruce’s gift was quite a big hit on the internet… I saw it mentioned on several sites.
Hey Bryan, do you know how many times it was downloaded? I hope Bruce has a good bandwidth plan.

ParticipantBruce is touring with Ricky’s band, Kentucky Thunder. I don’t there are any Noisemakers dates set anytime in the near future.

ParticipantIt’s hard to come up with ranking criteria (best to hear live, best lyrics, best studio performance, best jamming, etc.), but here’s what I came up with.
I absolutely love the sound and feel of the album version of Shadowland. I’d like to hear more of Bruce’s studio work sound so free and open. I really think Shadowland might be the most under-appreciated of Bruce’s works.
1. Shadowland
2. The Chill
3. White Wheeled Limousine
4. King of the Hill
5. Swan Song
6. Big Swing Face
7. Pastures of Plenty
8. Harbor Lights
9. I Will Walk With You
10. Mandolin Raintrent

ParticipantFrom a recent newspaper article in the Daily Press
“Two weeks ago, Hornsby and his own band ducked into the studio and recorded 10 new songs, four of them for a Broadway musical he’s developing, the other six for a new rock-oriented album.
One of the new tunes is called “The Black Rats of London,” which Hornsby says sounds like a hybrid of Randy Newman and the punky Irish trad band The Pogues. “It’s about the unsung heroes of American history,” Hornsby said, chuckling.”

ParticipantZevon’s “Excitable Boy” was the first song that popped into my head.
Speaking of The Buoy’s “Timothy” – there have a few excellent songs dealing with mining disasters, though they are usually not done with such a bouncy melody. Jimmy Dean’s “Big Bad John” and Jean Ritchie’s chilling “West Virginia Mine Disaster” are particular standouts.
The most interesting lyrical interpretations will IMHO always belong to American Pie. I’ve heard of professors using this song to give a mini history lesson of the time period.

Participantahhhh…
The Blue Note “Talk of the Town” is probably my favorite version of the tune. I have listened to it dozens of times, BUT I had mistaken BH’s words as “right next to [yaya]” instead of the correct “rednecks and [yaya]”. I have never been blessed with a lysol clean mind, so I was sorta surprised I didn’t know what Bruce was talking about. Thanks to Jackie for helping my mental dirt hill reach new heights!

ParticipantHere’s a secret… I think the first guitar solo in CMR is a lift from the Beatles song, “Love You To” from their Revolver album. But, shhhhhh don’t tell anyone.

ParticipantVery nice! I like the Bruce voicemail at the beginning too.
Have any of the Caesar Salad folks been contacted by Bruce?

ParticipantThanks a lot for following up Si. While it’s not exactly what I wanted to hear, I respect the man’s position and decision to not allow further taping.
I do have one idea to throw into the mix though… If Bruce wants to restrict the public offerings of recordings to the “cream of the crop” bhlive releases, it would be cool to have a short review (maybe a short paragraph) from Bruce himself letting us know what stood out for him in the show (sort of like what JV does every now and then on his blog). Just a thought.

ParticipantConan’s website says Bruce and Ricky won’t be on the show until Friday.
trent
Participantare you sure its tonight?

ParticipantI’m really interested in hearing the reason for the disallowing of the taping of shows. Perhaps some astute reporter will bring it up in an interview soon, or Bruce will volunteer a explanation on his own.
I feel as long-time supporters, we are at least owed an explanation as a courtesy. I mean there might be recording issues with all the special guests he will be playing with this summer; he might want to sell more bhlive stuff; these might be orders from Sony; he might not like having recent stage “walk-offs” documented for eternity; it might have something to do with the musical; or he just doesn’t like recorded live music anymore.
Bruce certainly has the right to disallow the live recordings anytime he wishes, but I would hope he just wouldn’t cut them off on a whim.
